This whole thing is making me wonder. What is the big deal behind halting the banks?
edit on 1/30/2014 by shaneslaughta because: (no reason given)

Cause chaos...Roll out the military, shoot resisters legally and imprison the rest. In other words ,,,complete control. Now everyone DepenDs on Govt. for food, water, shelter (no mortgage payment means no house), fuel...everything.

And that's only the start.

Peace

As an atheist, it surprises me how often I think of Bible verses.

"Give to Caeser what belongs to Caesar ..."

I don't know about Russian currency, but US currency says right on the top, "Federal Reserve Note." It belongs to the Federal Reserve Bank, even if it is in your possesion.

There are two ways to deprive someone of something. If they have it, take it from them. If they don't have it, make sure they can't get it.

Whenever I have an excess of things that say "Federal Reserve Note" (which isn't too often anymore), I exchange it for something stamped ".999." If anyone wants to take that, they can also have some things stamped .22, .45, and .50.

...

I hope that tequilla induced rant made some sense to someone.

I'm sorry OP, I might be missing it but could you link the source that states Russia has banned Bitcoin? All I see is an article which reports that the central bank warns that using Bitcoin to launder can lead to jail time.

You know you are right on a bit of that....I used to often buy large quantities of food and water and things like that as the actual value o of a paper dollar isnt anything but tinder. I dont think even gold and silver is worth all the much. About 3 months ago I invested in primitive weapons. I bought a ton of books/solar panels/etc and quite a few weapons ranging from slings to xbows etc. Purchased things like a hand crank washer, seeds, plenty of rope, farming equipment.

if tshtf im most likely going mobile in the end to somewhere warm with good resources. I have enough to survive the initial panic with ease. Fact is gold and silver weigh alot....and its just something I dont want to move around once I go mobile.

As confident as you are that SHTF will happen, I'm just as confident that nothing will happen.
A few years will roll by and we will meet back up on ATS and their will be another thread on the same issue and ANOTHER few more years added, pfffff.

Good looking out though, S&F for trying bud

Sadly I believe that the end of the world as we know is coming faster everyday, everything will blow in a couple of years

If we have that long. Lately it seems that everything has sped up. The power grabs and false flags are coming so fast we barely even react to them anymore. Govco is spending like a drunken sailor and with the resignations, firings, suicides and now the banks aren't letting people get their money. That says to me that the check is in the mail. If it happens here take that as your two day warning. Use that time to make your last minute preps. Get what cash you can and "invest" it in commodities. Real, on-hand commodities like food, water, ammo and items for barter. I thought we had more time too but now I'm not so sure. I'm on high alert and I suggest you all should be too. Anyone else find the Superb Owl marketing campaign a bit creepy? Whatever is coming 2.2.14? I'll admit I like my doom porn so I may be reading too much into it, but it just sounds and feels creepy. And the Olympics to follow are fraught with the potential for something big and bad to happen. Or, maybe I'm just paranoid. Hahahahahaaa...time will tell I guess. Doom on kids.

People put ALL of their money behind three feet of concrete and steel...and they are the only ones without a key. STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!

So what is the alternative? In todays world is it even possible to invest securely?

All investments are risks. Any time your money is not in your possession its a risk. But, if you have to invest, a DOW Contra ETF might make you a tidy sum. Would have cleaned up last week when the DOW dropped 300 points. That is just the beginning too. When this thing pops the markets will be in freefall. On paper you will be rich or at least a good bit richer depending ion the size of your investment. Problem is that paper money will be worthless not to mention that you probably won't be able to collect it. If you really want to invest, then invest in you. Your skills, tools and supplies will be the best thing you can invest in. From your name I'm guessing you have the defense thing taken care of, but food, water, shelter and energy will be just as important.

I must say, what an informative reply..... if only there were more ATSers like you.

Despite my name, i am not actually armed or defensive in any way. However on true thing you said was invest in oneself.... i try to do this daily by learning as much as i can online... trying to deny ignorance.

I will be keeping an eye on this thread!

Ya sure. Everyone relax. Arnie says all is well so chill out. Forsake your survival instincts that have been honed by millions of years of evolution. Why think for yourself when Arnie is here to do it all for us? Sheesh, you people act like you are as intelligent as he is. Can't you see by his avatar that he spends hours of his time learning about these things in the top secret war simulators like HALO and Battlefield. I'm selling all my preps now. Arnie for president. ::Sigh::

Jude you remember the thread about two banker suicides.
Well now there three in the space of a week and hes a former Fed economist.

Mike Dueker, the chief economist at Russell Investments, was found dead at the side of a highway that leads to the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington state, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. He was 50.
He may have jumped over a 4-foot (1.2-meter) fence before falling down a 40- to 50-foot embankment, Pierce County Detective Ed Troyer said yesterday. He said the death appeared to be a suicide.
Dueker was reported missing on Jan. 29, and a group of friends had been searching for him along with law enforcement. Troyer said the economist was having problems at work, without elaborating. Dueker was in good standing at Russell, said Jennifer Tice, a company spokeswoman. She declined to comment on Troyer’s statement about Dueker’s work issues.

This bit interesting.

He published dozens of research papers over the past two decades, many on monetary policy, according to the St. Louis Fed’s website, which ranks him among the top 5 percent of economists by number of works published. His most-cited work was a 1997 paper titled “Strengthening the case for the yield curve as a predictor of U.S. recessions,” published by the reserve bank while he was a researcher there.
.
Bloomberg
I really don't like this, there nothing much in the story saying why he would kill himself other
than problems at work and the police seem happy with that.

The man was wealthy and looking at his history could get a job somewhere else easily so
why kill yourself ?

Good attitude bro. (Sis?) Keep learning and gaining skills. Anyone can survive just about anything if they are mentally and physically prepared. The world will need good people when it comes down. Folks who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty. People that know how to create or repair things will be the new upper class. (And I don't mean the McMansion dwelling upper-class 'cuz that's all going away.) The world is full of sheep and we will need some shepherds so do your best to learn and practice in the time we have left. Prep if you can. But learning is free and it will be more valuable if you know how to feed yourself and others. A bunch of food will get used up, but knowledge will live on forever. Good luck bro.
