I dunno about Progressive but, some people I like that have tried to repeal the Patriot Act are:
Elizabeth Warren
Bernie Sanders
Rush Holt
The ACLU has been working on this since it became law, regardless of this supposed 20 million from the Koch bros.

Anyone who throws up $20,000,000 (more than most of you will make in your lifetime, scummy plebians) and people actually defend their actions???

They had money and influence in 2001 when this law passed...
Did they use tbeir money and influence then???

NO!!!

only THIRTEEN YEARS LATER DO THEY BOTHER TO COMPLAIN!

Do you get where I am going with this?
I protested as a poor ass soul from the hearsay at this. My protest doesn't mean squat. Nor does this fiasco. It is all just a reason to pour money into bank accounts due to "whatever" cuz I'm not privy to the millionaire lifestyle.

Excellent Point here worth repeating.
The left / right game is quite hilarious in order to fool the masses.

Many of the things that get passed are never challenged when the "otherside" gets elected.
Instead, they say Wah Wah, the Liberals did it, or Wah Wah the Republicans did it.

The only time they repeal anything is when it benefits them like Glass Steagal.

It's not about money?
Right?
You're asking "well no one threw $20 million dollars to protest something"
Maybe because they are spending their money to HELP OTHER PEOPLE!

I don't care about rich people as some of you are envious of them. I just hate cheaters, liberals like Warren Buffet lobbying for more taxes because he is the biggest recipient of bailouts and corporate welfare. He needs your taxes to fund himself.

Or George Communist Soros lobbying for open borders so he can gain more tax payers to fund wall-street stimulus. Did you know your birth certificate is traded on the stock exchange? U are inventory for the federal reserve tax system. That's why they want more illegals to expand their inventory.

The Koch Brothers don't even come close to being a scumbags like Soros and Buffet. They are American and actually pay into the system and put Americans to work. Unlike these foreigner usurpers.

So...
Only Librul rich people arr bad

People who say they want to help people with their vast fortunes are evil?
Yeah. I agree with you. Buffett, Gates, and Soros are turds as well. The megarich get that way and, more importantly, stay that way because of GREED. Do you realize just how much 1,000,000,000 is? Just 1.
A million million. Can you wrap your head around how much one million is? Take that times one million.
One person, hell, one family, doesn't need that much. Personally, I couldn't live with myself knowing so many kids went to bed hungry in my own country and I had enough wealth to help. Call me an evil progressive. How about the good Christian conservative owners of Hobby Lobby who are going to put THOUSANDS of 'Mericans out of work rather than have insurance money go toward contraceptives? Tbey have tbeir millions...rather than sell, they want to shutter their operations. Riddle me that one Batman.

Gotta love ATS , when it gets to debating who has the best plutocrat backing their team. Either way your advocating plutocracy over democracy. Weird.

Of course, you know you said it. It is amusing though.

Here's a combination of words I thought I'd never write: Hurray for the Koch Brothers! Now there is their money well spent, and David Koch has funded some support for gay marriage and specific substance legalizations too? Here's another combination of words I though I'd never use: Hurray for David Koch! Even a demonic broken watch is correct twice a day.

Love them or hate them the Koch brothers are on the right side when it comes to the Patriot Act and Foreign intervention. I think they are on the wrong side of labor and regulation though.

Your post shows that you do not bother to view the facts before throwing out wild accusations. How do you know they only donated the $20M after thirteen years? All you had to do was click the link or read the quoted passage to know that reports were from 2008 at the latest.

I don't get the wild outrage by some (mainly Owl Bear) that the Kock Brothers aren't as "pure" as they are in terms of early adoption of fighting against the Patriot Act. If somebody agrees with you, why don't you just take that as a compliment about your ideas? Maybe figure out a way to work together? Maybe you only agree on one thing or two things but it doesn't mean you scold them in the only common idea that you share.

It is actually pretty insane to do that, it gives you no real credibility in your argument of being "an earlier adopter", if anything, it makes you seem sour and unwilling to cooperate to achieve any productive end means to stopping the Patriot Act.

Well that's good, if true. Generally, I think the ACLU does good things and fighting the patriot act is always good. As with all things, this is probably more complicated than seems, but...you never know.

Not sure where you got "2008 at the latest" but the original article doesn't show donations prior to that date. The donation from the Koch brothers, which was $10 million by the way, not $20 million, was made between 2008-2009. And please spare me the BS that because the Bush administration was still in place in 2008 this somehow makes it non-partisan, Bush was suffering one of the lowest approval ratings in 2008, every man and his dog did not approve of his administration by then, so mighty convenient for the Koch's and other conservative groups to come out and clean themselves of any support of him:

He’s politically conservative. He and his brother Charles, along with George Soros, the Ford Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation each contributed $10 million to the ACLU to defeat parts of the USA Patriot Act. 2008-2009

www.lasocialdiary.com...

So there's nothing showing them donating millions prior to 2008, the general election year, the year when it was highly unpopular to be associated with the Bush administration and their laws. There's not much information regarding whether this was $20 million, one core source points to $10 million to which all the other articles refer back to.

For individuals who were so against the Patriot Act and other infringements on freedoms they certainly had no problem contributing towards the Bush administration even after the fact they were pimping the Patriot Act:

Particularly noteworthy is the fact that 79% of Koch's campaign funding in 2004 went to Republicans, including $121,000 to Todd Tiahrt, the US Congressman representing Wichita (where Koch Enterprises is head-quartered); $109,000 to George Bush; and $53,000 to the Hammer, Tom DeLay. Evidently Charles and David forgot that one is often judged by the company one keeps. Or perhaps they simply don't care.

www.rense.com...

Considering that most of the Republicans in the House and Senate had voted to keep the Patriot Act in place towards the end and after the Bush administration they continued to spend millions on getting them elected after this fact. In 2006 and then 2011 again to re-authorize it and yet they continued the contributions? Yep, the millions they spent on helping the ACLU was all for show, nothing more. Are you going to post a thread about how George Soros gave millions to the ACLU as well? I don't think so.
