This could be an interesting conversation.
The internet .... gift from God or human invention all on our own?

Did God inspire people to create the internet so that they could use it for His glory and for bringing people together? Or did humans figure it out on their own and it's not a gift from God but instead a human achievement on our own? Or something else altogether? I suppose you'd have to take a step back and ask if life itself is a gift from God (then the human intellect that created the internet is also a gift from God) ... or did we make ourselves and therefore any human achievements are all to the credit of humanity??

The exact message of the pope wasn't really in that area, but his statement raised the question.
THIS is what the exact message was ...

Catholic Herald - Pope Francis says 'Internet is a gift from God'

In his address, Pope Francis urged Catholics to be like the Good Samaritan, by reaching out to their neighbour through social media. He said: “How can we be ‘neighbourly’ in our use of the communications media and in the new environment created by digital technology? I find an answer in the parable of the Good Samaritan, which is also a parable about communication. Those who communicate, in effect, become neighbours. The Good Samaritan not only draws nearer to the man he finds half dead on the side of the road; he takes responsibility for him.

If' I"m reading Pope Francis correctly, he says - (paraphrase) the internet makes us realize that we are all neighbors. Communications with people brings us closer together. It brings the suffering of others right into our homes via the internet (news, social media, etc). The suffering, the poor, and those hurting, are no longer hidden from sight. It's right there in front of us and their suffering is undeniable. As Christians, when we see suffering, we are to reach out and try to help if at all possible. God inspired men to create the internet to bring the suffering to our attention so it's His gift to humanity so we can do better. (paraphrased ... if I'm reading him correctly)

He said to use the internet to help others and, of course, evangelize BUT he also said this and I think it's dead on ...

The Pope also said that Christian witness was not about “bombarding” people with religious messages “but about our willingness to be available to others ‘by patiently and respectfully engaging their questions and their doubts as they advance in their search for the truth and the meaning of human existence (BENEDICT XVI, Message for the 47th World Communications Day, 2013).”

In other words ... don't get preachy and/or judgmental on social media and other internet sites.
It's a turn off and does more harm than good.

I see the internet as reflecting society ... parts are good; parts are bad; most is irrelevant; some good information; lots of untruth. Perhaps the pope is saying to use the internet for good and that it can be a positive thing, and that all good things come from God ???

IMHO - the problem with attributing credit , or blame for anything " to god "

is that you rob credit from those that prefornmed any positive achievement - and worse - absolve any one who does wrong from blame .

its all " god did it "

Well Skyfloating - there goes your idea about 666 being www or does it... if Pope Francis is the anti-Pope. But actually, I get the impression that the Pope is trying to get people to think about online relationships in the same way that they think of in-person ones, and not forget to treat people with the Golden Rule, even online.

Tim Berners-Lee helped to create the world wide web he had nothing to do with the creation of the internet. This is a common mistake people make because they don't know the difference between the two and the internet was created by Robert E. Kahn and Vint Cerf.

Not even gonna go their.Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web. Kahn = TCP/IP protocol. not the WWW.

Berners-lee made it possible for me to write this not Kahn.

The internet is where religions come to die........

......and for porn

Having access to so much information can only have helped a great number of people drop their superstitious beliefs.

You are wrong. Without Kahn and Cerf there would be no WWW because it would have nothing to work on. WWW just made it easier for people that know nothing about computers to access the internet.

Which is why countries that run on superstitious beliefs (religious rule of law) block the internet .... just like countries that rule with a secular iron fist (N. Korea) block the internet. Same/same. Control.

Pmsl people dont realise that the internet needs human intervention to become anything.

Think of the news regarding the US playing to replace 1000's of military personel with Robots. Robots who follow a program no ofs no buts.
In fact im gonna go way off topic here and say what I see if you dont mind.

Righto,
At the moment what do we have?
We have a quite crystal clear sequence of events that indicate a specific direction. Now im mot going to sit here and say I am right and everyone else is wrobg, nor am I going to even say that this is their intention or if it's actually 'they' that are moving this along.
Libraries are struggling, some facibg closure as information which is education and knowledge is getting moved and stored online.
Highstreet shops are not only struggling to compete with the big retailers never mind online shops. High Street shops are surrounded by double yellow lines here in the UK which ultimately influences and determibes trade. Face a ticket or use a large shopping store with a car park. More and more big retailers are opening more and more stores.
So, that may seem like nothing out of the normal but 'what if'
What if that's the plan, use big stores to close smaller ones.
Deeper?
A distraction. The ultimate goal is to have everything internet based. The big stores that shut out small businesses and high street shopsnow face the same fate because the big stores are a mere stepping stone towards their goal. By shutting all big stores and things only available online would almost certainly lead to people paying waaaaaay over the odds for things. A bit like what the energy companies have done.
Knowledge, food, clothing etc etc only available from one place.
What if the owner of the internet decides to spit the dummy and have everyone pay what they decide? They wouldn't get away with that would they? The military wouldn't allow this to happen would they?..........
Well that depends on if what you call military are human or robots. I read somewhere google was to buy companies of a robotic nature and the post I made yesterday re US replacing troops with robots adds to the uneasiness of it all. Robots could be used for many things but ' man' true to form chooses the destructive choice.
Sky Net may be laughable and Artificial Intelligence lackibg certain things but think of this, or may I ask
Are we educating the internet, could the internet become able to think for itself and make decisions and ultimately give its own orders when it becomes self aware.
Are we educating the brain so to speak?
All it would need is a body and if our information we upload to it is taken into account it will know everything about everything.

Would make a good film lol
Gift from God? Very much doubt it lol because you are all churches of God, the internet is a way of sharing your thoughts with one day hoping to conquer it.
Satan
Satellite and tri axial network
S.A.T.A.N
Frequencies,
The veil?
Is imho the invisible cloak created by it.
mind control is just one of.
The sun will reveal it.

We could keep going back and say that Ben Franklin enabled us to use the internet or even the industrial revolution.

I think that's the Pope's point. It's humanity's general momentum that led up to this and he believes that humanity is a guided whole who gets nudges from their Christian gods.

Most people believe in some sort of concept like this, even when it doesn't involve deities.

Some people even think that we should thank god for every discovery because god gave us our brains.

If the pope wants to label humans "God" then that's his choice, but I'll call humans "humans" and say, thanks to humans we have the internet.

Dictatorships such as NK could be said to be a theocracy where a certain chubby, cherub-faced despot is a regarded as a living 'God'.

But that's another topic
