U.S. Senator Charles Schumer (D, NY) was addressing a room full of people from the Center for American Progress and suggested that Obama and others simply use the IRS to target the "Tea Party" as a way to exploit and weaken that movement.

Naturally he was talking to an already buttered up audience so it makes sense he used bold ideas.

It was almost like he was suggesting something new?

But we all know that this has already been happening at the admission of IRS officials.

Maybe Chuck was just pretending it was a new idea?

So I guess it never really happened?

He says the "Tea Party" has a financial advantage and that Obama should bypass Congress and institute new campaign finance rules through the IRS !!!

W0W.

I guess we know where HE stands eh.

Oh and Chuck....Obama already has done all that I think? !!

He most definitely is an authoritarian tyrant.

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) proposed using the Internal Revenue Service to curtail Tea Party group funding during a speech on how to “exploit” and “weaken” the movement at the Center for American Progress on Thursday.

Arguing that Tea Party groups have a financial advantage after the Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United decision, Schumer said the Obama administration should bypass Congress and institute new campaign finance rules through the IRS.

“It is clear that we will not pass anything legislatively as long as the House of Representatives is in Republican control, but there are many things that can be done administratively by the IRS and other government agencies—we must redouble those efforts immediately,” Schumer said.

They are scared to death of the "Tea Party". Wonder why?

He had some other choice comments too .......

Dunno why they are still going after the Tea Party.

Yep they sure did manufacture that boogieman, but according to the last election.

The left won.

Targeting them in the first place, and should never have happened.

Hell a government especially this one should not be targeting its own citizen for their political beliefs.

That IS big in places like modern day Iran, and Soviet Russia.

But someone tells me this is CURRENTLY HAPPENING IN AMERICA?

That is astonishing.

Even more so there is not more outrage over it.

Yeah, he and Gov.Cuomo seem to have the same views
Governor Cuomo: ‘Extreme Conservatives Have No Place In New York’

What great mentality for Men in power to have *shakes head*
'If you don't think like us, you are not one of us and therefore you are not welcome'

I think we as a society are digressing and now we are being subjected to a 5 year olds way of thinking:
'Ewe, you've got cooties, go away....we don't want to play with you'
*sigh*

I heard some of his speech on the radio earlier; and people look around and wonder where we went wrong with tyrants like him in office. Anytime a government abuses it's power in such a manner as he suggest (and as already happened) it is no wonder that people have lost faith in their government and their elected leaders..

Been there done that Schumer, you're late to the agenda.

It's almost like the extreme leftists wanted that whole IRS scandal to come out so they could gauge to response and (with the help of the MSM) they managed to stifle any meaningful response. Remember Obama going on about how "it's not a scandal", like he was defending it?

Now that it's out the open, get used to hearing about the tea party being targeted by the left in openly illegal ways. You won't hear a peep from the MSM. It's all about desensitizing and moving forward, bits at a time.

The progressive movement has become more outspoken, more panicked, because of the failure of Obamacare.

They are scrambling because they know they are losing.

First of all - I was under the impression that the I.R.S. already did this and it was considered illegal and they got in trouble for it - why propose to do it again?

Secondly, as much as people hate the Tea Party for some reason, they have been shown through empirical studies to be the ones that are the best at mathematics and logic out of the different political parties. And at some point, we are going to need some logic before this country goes entirely downhill.

I agree. Panik Modus Operandi is the 2014 Battle Kry.

The big problem we see is the inability to actually explain the policies convincingly.

They really really really need to work on that.

Every time they mess with the Tea Party movement, the Tea Party movement gets stronger. Americans are fed up with having their rights trampled by a totally out of control government... a government that proves this point time and time again. The Tea Party isn't going away any time soon...

Suggestions like that should cost the good Senator his job *AND* his pension. The Constitution has this pesky little thing termed Due Process and Equal Protections. It means we don't get to use instruments of the Federal Government for direct political manipulation of the American population and voting public.

Oh..sure ..I know it happens and it's likely always happened. So has murder...it doesn't mean we let the next one to shoot someone walk away because a dozen other homicides sit as open cases and free men who committed them.

This is murdering our nation ...one political slash at a time.

....and are they *THAT* sure they'll *NEVER* lose power again? I see..... Given the near 50/50 split in pure ideology and worldview among the American people? That rings like a dictator calling a 99% turn out and vote count in their own favor ...the day before the election. Something about that whole attitude they have STINKS.

Red, Blue or Brown to remind us of what they're full of....Political use of the IRS for *ANY* reason should cost the man suggesting it his position, if it's anywhere near Government in this nation. No exceptions. No matter WHO it is, in my opinion.

The only people who are "scared to death of the Tea Party" are Republicans and they're not even afraid to admit it.

The Democrats, on the other hand, are "Sick To Death Of The Tea Party." The ignorance and insanity displayed by Tea Party representatives in Congress literally makes us feel the need to puke. The more compassionate among us may feel some pity but that's about it.

Oh yeah, Chuck Schumer is right!

All that other B.S. you wrote about Obama using the IRS to target the Tea Party is just that, B.S.!

Apparently, you missed the part of the congressional testimony where the inspector general stated, (in response to questions posed by Elijah Cummings) that the reason his investigation & report focused on Tea Party organizations applying for 501(c)4 status was due to the fact that Darryl Issa's office directed him to do just that.

He went on to say that his initial investigation clearly indicated that Tea Party groups were not the only ones being scrutinized by the IRS but Darryl Issa's instructions made it perfectly clear that he, (Darryl Issa) wasn't interested in those other groups, only Tea Party affiliated groups.

In the wake of the "Citizens United" SCOTUS decision, there was an explosion of political groups, (most of which were Tea Party affiliated) attempting to fraudulently utilized the 501(c)4 statutes to conceal the identity of their newfound donors and the IRS was absolutely correct in scrutinizing those applications.

I have pointed this out to you previously in other threads you've authored regarding this so-called IRS scandal but apparently you are more than willing to accept anything but truth as truth, something I call "willful ignorance."

I'm going to make one more attempt, here's the statute;

www.irs.gov...

The Statute
IRC 501(c)(4) provides for exemption of:
Civic leagues or organizations not organized for profit but operated exclusively for the promotion of social welfare.

Local associations of employees, the membership of which is limited to the employees of a designated person or persons in a particular municipality and the net earnings of which are devoted exclusively to charitable, educational, or recreational purposes.

The statutory terms disclose that IRC 501(c)(4) embraces two general classifications:
a. Social welfare organizations,
b. Local associations of employees.

I would direct your attention to the use of the word "exclusively" in the statute.

Here's a thread I authored on the subject last year;
www.abovetopsecret.com...

This is how big money has been using the tax system to drown out the voice of the common man in the halls of Congress while concealing their true identities and it's high time we bring it to a screeching halt. At least it is if you're serious about wanting the return of a representative government.

They have been raping and pillaging the Constitution since the Civil War... which was far more about State's rights than slavery. The federal government needs to be stripped of any powers not specifically enumerated by that document. EVERYTHING else is a matter for the individual states to decide. THAT is how we fix our current mess folks...

Brother, the Tea Party is playing by the established rules and previously established precedence. If the Tea Party doesn't get tax exempt status ... neither should the other political party contributors. That's what the establishment FEARS. They are going to lose THEIR funding base (both old-guard parties). The last thing either the DEMS or REPUBS want is a level playing field.

The liberals (Democrats) are really getting pathetic. They have infiltrated every piece of infrastructure that has anything to do with government and the media and they still can't install socialism.

Pathetic bunch of failure's asking the bully on the block to do there dirty work... sad.

I'm honestly surprised it wasn't McCain this article was referring to.

McCain, along with neo-cons like Boehner would actually probably support something like this.
