Review Board declares NSA spying illegal, but the timing is a little too convenient...

The review boards recommendations say that the program should be ended today.

Outside of the obvious questions of how would we ever really know it ended... doesn't the timing of this worry you?

Lets say the NSA says "fine, we stopped today"... or says that they couldn't get good information because their information sources were tightening up?

With SOCHI just around the corner, I worry that our government, which we know historically will try to manipulate us, will try to use a terror attack to justify continuation of the program.

The timing just seems a bit too convenient.

If you are correct in your prediction here, you can all but guarantee that if an attack happens it will be from a lesser known terrorist that was under watch before this all stopped abruptly.....Timing does seem a bit strange?? I wouldn't put it past this government though, not one bit at all!

IMHO it seems to me that the programs could easily be "discontinued" by the NSA to appease the public - just relocate the function secretly to another agency (maybe "CyberCommand"! ha), give the programs new code names, dump the political appointees & military chiefs, transfer the career bureaucrats and continue on with business as usual. In politics, being able to SAY something is "true" outweighs any consideration of actual "facts".

On the other hand, I firmly believe the Russians are vigilant and prepared for the task of protecting the Olympics based on their troop strength and fresh experience with insurgents. I don't see another Munich in the works, and I sincerely doubt any high-tech hardware like drones or aircraft would be attempted. It's possible in my mind that there might be a failed attempt and even less likelihood that an attack would result in high casualty counts. But then again, the lone bomber that takes out half a dozen people out of a hundred thousand still presents a threat that can be spun into great doom porn propaganda.

Yep...

Timing is interesting to say the least.

But like a business that has run into trouble, just change the name and go on with the same practices as before under a new banner and slick new logo.

The public is so far behind on this "whack-a-mole" game it is almost laughable if it wasn't so serious.
