The auto refreshing of the homepage.

The process seems to lag in my browser and I just get annoyed and go elsewhere. Maybe I don't have the absolute latest Java plug-in installed, or something, but I just installed my latest Java update and the ATS homepage is still lagging on the refresh.

Sometimes the page won't open at all when I click my bookmark. Is it refreshing at that moment? I don't have this issue with any other web page. It is such a relief to go to another webpage after getting annoyed by lagging, limping ATS, and have the computer snap to attention on the new page.

Am I the only one who experiences this?

I think most ATSers know that the home page changes from time to time and know that if we want the latest version, we can just refresh it ourselves.

This is really ad related isn't it? Ads are cycled through so many refreshes aren't they? That's my hunch anyway.

I don't know if it has anything to do with anything as there are others FAR more knowledgeable than me in these areas but...

I took "Kim Kommando's" advice and completely uninstalled Java from this machine and ATS is faster than ever..

I have no issues with the speed of ATS, methinks it might be an issue with your PC or internet connection?

Did you have to put something else on in Java's place?

I'm conditioned to believe that the globe would implode without Java. Talk me down from my hysteria.

This is really the only website that I have an issue with, although once in a while YouTube is a little balky.

You might be right about the connection though. Cable internet (Rogers in Toronto) does vary considerably in throughput speed depending on the time of day, neighborhood, etc.

NOPE

Not one other thing.. Been without Java a couple of days so far and not a single hiccup except it is running as fast as it did new

I have been coming here less because of the porn ads that keep showing up, my wife or kids might see it and think I am some sort of perv. This place is loosing what little class it had.

I looked into the Java business and found an interesting write up from a couple of years ago. I might do something along the lines suggested by the author, i.e., install another browser for Java and just use it for "server side" applications like form filling, etc.

Thanks for the tip.

Surely they've already got that figured out.

This place is loosing what little class it had.

I'm not really down on ATS like some on the web are. It is important to keep a perspective on it though. ATS is a media outlet, not like the others, but still swimming in the same media pool of post democratic America as all the other outlets.

As a rule, especially the past 4 weeks I have had the flu, I have at least 3 and sometimes 5 computers connected to ATS all the time including an Android Tablet (XYBoard), Android Phone (Razor), 1 or 2 Laptops and 2 desktops

Running Win 7, Android, Linux and Win XP Pro
Firefox, IE, Chrome and "Crazy Browser"

In all my years here as a Member, Moderator and Super Moderator

I have never once, not one single time, had porn "pop up"

Now with thousands of Members logged on daily and more and more joining all the time, do you not think it is strange that "only you" are getting these?

I always close out ATS if it starts playing audio without me having initialized it. But the auto-refresh is annoying. I don't really like throwing away that much bandwidth either on that point.

Nop not my machine, when I sign out and visit ATS while not signed in, ATS has different ads, the ad I am talking about is some sort of game that shows women in next to no clothing, when I sign in it goes away,

ill gladly post the image if I can...

I'm not alone. Thanks. Audio with ads is also something that drives me nuts, particularly when I can't figure out where in multiple tabs it is coming from, but that is rare.

I'm not gonna lie, I can't remember the last time I was actually on the ATS homepage. My bookmark takes me directly to recent posts. Pretty much the only other page I use is myATS. Is there anything on the homepage that you can't get from one of those two pages? If not maybe you should just bypass it altogether.

No do not post the image

I wonder why a website as large as ATS and as complicated has singled you out? You alone out of thousands

Sorry

But that just does not make any common sense to me

For me, ATS always has adds for webpages I've recently visited, or have most visited over time. Your post made me giggle.

Sometimes I am forced to do just that. The homepage won't open, so I go to a bookmarked page and it pops right open.

The thing that draws me to the home page is that if anything big is breaking at the moment, it will often be there, so that one can use the mainstream media for the overview and go to ATS for the probing questions and alternate routes to the truth.

I love the home page, but not the glitches that come with it.
