"Benefits Street" - Justifying cuts in welfare?

There are two sorts of person :-

Those like yourself, who when they get cut backs, the interest rates increase

or the reduction of benefits/allowances or hit some sort of financial bump,

will tighten their belt/budget, will take on extra shifts, or supplement their

income with a part time job .... will bite the bullet and get on with it


Then there are the others, 'the entitlements' who hit with the same situation,

blame everyone and anyone, cannot see the bigger picture expect to be carried

and have everything done for them ... blame the government for all their woes ...


Another thing, there was a time when people worked according to their abilities.

and were paid as such, they invariably started at the bottom and worked their

way up ...nowadays every one wants to start at the top, and get paid the same

as those with greater experience


I am appalled that there are still adults who cannot absorb the principal

that if you have only have a pint, you cannot take out a gallon!!

And if you have £1billion in the pot you cannot take out £1billion and five

This shows how terribly narrow minded you are. Theres a LOT more than two types of people in the world, jeeze just incredible...
I suppose all the starving people of this world should just get up of their arse should they? All the children abused in care homes should just pull up their socks, and before you claim kids in carehomes has nothing to do with poverty,just think before you post because poverty is the main reason kids are in carehomes.
Is there no sense of sympothy/empathy in you?

Not wishing to interrupt, but in the context of this with the OP, why are you trying to pull in the "starving people of the world"? As you are talking about poverty, has it escaped your notice but even the most poorest in our society would be classified fantastically rich in a country where starvation was an everyday event. Have you ever been to a poor country? Travel broadens the mind.

On care-homes. That's got sod all to do with poverty. We can all make excuses for poor parenting and dysfunctional families, coupled with low aspirations, but blaming out-of-control kids on poverty is rather simplistic.

Going back to the OP. How many of the kids in the "Benefits Street" will fail in life because their parents live like they do - dependent on welfare, unwilling to participate in society and thieving to feed their drug habits. Doubtless their failure will be someone else's fault and not their dysfunctional parents.

I agree with this. It's a pity that the people who conducted the crack baby studies could not come to any other conclusion. They too gave simplistic explanations that it was poverty rather than in-utero addiction that causes criminality in the children of crack addicted mothers.

A dumbed down curriculum has not helped. What many fail to acknowledge is the bottom 10% is a planned demographic that is an essential element of trickle down theory. (Political theorists got it wrong. The strategic out working of their policies has resulted in an underclass of something closer to 20% of the population and I rather suspect much of the so called austerity (welfare) reforms are a bid to reduce the figure to the levels required for the theory to work.) The children of such families do not stand a chance. It is their role and function to provide work for government employees and contractors and be paraded for government successes as well as blamed for government failings.


All the better to further distract the average tax payer from understanding how the true scroungers are shifting public money into private hands and instilling acceptance of systemic control through debt culture.

The police raided a load of houses today on that street and arrested some of them for drug offences.
