One Gadget you should NOT buy.

The company was not worth 3 billion. IMHO the CIA has a need for new intelligence. Something. How on Earth is a thermostat with Wifi worth that much? I CAN MAKE ONE RIGHT NOW! I am not even kidding. Why is this company worth that much? There has to be more to the story that we won't know for a long time.

Every time I see this story I wonder what they are up to. The company was not worth what they paid. Makes no sense.

Awesome product. You're on vacation, cold spell comes in .. you up your thermostat to prevent pipes freezing.

Or you can get paranoid like the OP and spend money to deal with freezing pipes bursting.

I did. It cost me a whole 9 dollars. I will never have to worry about my pipes freezing over again. Ever! Sorry saw this and had to respond. This really isn't a good point. You could take care of pipes for many houses for the price of this one thermostat. Not to mention if you do it right it will last for at least 20 to 30 years OUTSIDE.
