New Year Winter Of Doom Writing Contest [Jan2014][WINNERS]

Good afternoon fellow ATS members members. On the heels of our last contest, January will be no different!

Since AfterInfinity was given the right to choose the theme and details, the theme will be as follows.

Three choices:

1. New Year celebration on a world other than Earth

2.Winter-geddon/Snow-pocalypse. End of the world scenario based around winter calamities

3.Hunt for the Abominable Snowman.

You may choose one or more of the following themes and insert them into your story. With all the bad and frigid weather we've had, it's no wonder this contest them fits perfectly with our RL frustrations.

Rules Of Entry

The contest will run from Wednesday 01/08/2014 to Friday01/31/2014 at Midnight. Any submissions after that date will be disqualified. A period of voting after the closing of the contest will also be provided.

5 days of voting.

All T&C's Apply

All entries MUST include [Jan2014]in the title.

All entries must be linked in this thread. You must include [writer] [non-writer] in your submission post within this thread.

There is no minimum or maximum character count.

All writing forms are acceptable.

2 single submissions per member. (No Part 2's)

There will be 3 winners among members who already have "Writer" status. They will be judged separately from all other entries based on stars and flags received.

1st Place -- 5 Applause & next contest theme choice.**
2nd Place -- 3 Applause
3rd Place -- 1 Applause

There will also be 3 winners from the non-writer category who will receive the following:

1st Place -- 3 Applause & Writer Status
2nd Place -- 2 Applause & Writer Status
3rd Place -- 2 Applause

** As with the previous contest, the story with the most flags will receive the honor of choosing the March Writing Contest Theme. **

Scoring

Flags will be worth 2 points each.
Stars will be worth 1 point each.

*Stars for subsequent posts (ie. additions to the story) will be worth .5 stars.

So there you have it folks, quite the interesting set of themes for this month. I'm sure the cold weather will prompt lots of entries !

Oh and with our new emoticons, I expect to see some enthusiasm!

Sounds interesting. I keep saying I'm gonna enter every contest, then I get caught up in real life... or get lost in my Doctor Who/Back to the Future fanfiction trilogy, which I FINALLY FINISHED TODAY AND I'M WAAAAAAY TOO PROUD OF!

But... anyway...

If you've ever read any of my past stories, you'll know that I make my stories a little bit long... sometimes a lot longer than I plan to. I like to get really "in depth" with most of my stories, otherwise they don't turn out right.

I think the new winter of doom fits well with the contest theme.

I've tried writing stories...but it seems I can't. I've only written maybe three short stories... But never shared them.

I would like to try... And I just may do so.

Congratulations to December's winning elite

I have a question miss 2the10thpower that has nothing to do with the
story writing competition, but I ask it openly as it may interest other members..

Is there, or will there be a "Poet's" writing competition..?

Could there be, with the winner(s) having "POET" in their personal
description instead of "WRITER"..?

I realize this caters to a select crowd, but I wonder if I'm the only member
with this ideal question..

I remember once.. There was a contest and poems were allowed and I entered but didn't win or anything. I would love a poem contest...but then I just have this feeling if there was a contest, my mnd would block up and not write anything!! hah..

Anyway it would be interesting to to see a poet status... And you're right..there's not that many poets on here anymore...or so it seems to me.
