So it seems that we have finally made it to what Star Wars was eluding to back in the in the early 1980s. Here is a video of what we have achieved in terms of 3D holographic visual depiction.

If this is true, I am very excited to see this in my lifetime!! I did not see this posted anywhere else. Enjoy...

Kratos..

P.S. Hmm...seem like the linky is not working. Here is the link: www.youtube.com...

get ready for the next generation of lazy kids eating their chips, and drinking their cokes immersed in 3D fantasy worlds. Oh wonderful.

Well, I was thinking about more useful ways of using this such as remote surgery or sharing 3D printing ideas. But yeah, sitting on a couch staring at 3D porn would be the downfall of our civilization....

I bet the first application of something like this would be 3D porn of some sort.

Still cool though, thanks for sharing.

There is another technology that is similar but uses sensory perception to "touch" stuff that is really not there. We'll see what the patent wars tell us.

cheers,

Well, its coolish, but nothing amazing. it is not really a holographic display like the namesake (leia), just a standard 2d projection on mist or whatnot. to me, that's a bit...meh. would rather have a nice lcd
I can see some nice apps and presentations where it would be quite nice (walking through a screen from behind as some sort of introduction film is rolling and the like,), its 1st gen, so will see where it goes, but overall I can't say its some mindblowing new thing...projecting on steam has been around for awhile.

No doubt you need a still dark environment for best results

You have to admit that at least its a step in the right direction. All inventions seem rudimentary at first. Just look at the Wright Brother's first attempts to create an airframe. Then realize what we have now. Things progress from an idea or concept SaturnFx.

It's not a hologram. It's not 3d. It isn't even high resolution. And the contrast ratio sucks. It's a novelty display.

Mist displays were already out, have been for years.

My old man will be pleased to hear they're working on his dream! All he ever wanted was a 3D Seven of Nine in his living room!

Still, it's the logical progression, and with some more R&D and prototypes (and a ****load of money!!!) , it'll soon become affordable
