Escaped Kentucky inmate returns to jail instead of facing freezing temparatures

Oh well that's funny!

An inmate who went on the run from a Kentucky prison begged to be let back in just a day later because he was so cold, US police said.

Robert Vick escaped from the Blackburn jail on Sunday but turned up at the “Sunset Motel” in Lexington the next day asking for the police to be called, Sherelle Roberts, a Lexington police spokeswoman, told AFP.

Just a short posting today.

It goes to show though, the will to be warm and somewhat safe outweighs the need to be out of prison apparently.

Criminals definitely are not all stupid

Im glad he didnt go on a stealing spree instead. Definitely one of the smarter ones, though if he was truly smart he probably shouldnt have escaped in the first place :

I was just thinking that. Why not go to a shelter or do a B&E or something.

Must've been in prison for a non-violent offense IMO.

-4 is pretty cold to be out there with little protection, but once you've escaped I'd think going back would be worse for you then pushing on... I mean, getting caught is one thing but admitting you can't figure out how to beat the cold? Would that go over well inside? Not to metion extending your sentence. I almost feel sorry for this guy...

Because a lot of times prison is much better than the life they have outside, especially if it's not a max security prison.

Edit to add: Blackburn is apparently a small minimum security prison, which compared to a freezing, dank, smelly homeless shelter is like summer camp. Granted, he probably won't get to stay there after escaping.

He was in a min. security institution. There are all types of people there, violent or non-violent so long as the violent ones showed themselves to be on good behaviour (in previous higher security spots). Which is odd in itself because people are usually there because they earned it and are less likely to escape. Probably will end up at a new higher security spot after.

had gotten this bad ":

He just didn't realise how good he had it.

Hmmmm, I'm torn on this one.

Stupid enough to commit a crime, yet smart enough to go back to where it is warm.

I was just watching a special here recently about foreign prisons and it was a European nation I believe where they have a policy of 0 time added for escapes if they are recaptured without a fight and no additional crimes were committed while out. So even escapees have a serious motive to just stay low and not make new victims.

I wonder how much this guy gets added now for essentially doing the right thing vs. carjacking or home invading someone to be a predator about things?

he must be somewhat institutionalised.......he cannot be that smart as i am betting the prison guards will find a way to make him even colder than he was on the outside

Yep, convicts are dumb as a bucket of rocks.
Dude escaped prison/jail whatever and is a criminal.
But he never thought of stealing a car with a heater.
If you're gonna do something, be the best at it...
