I've been thinking about the little green star program.

I would like to star everything, because I believe everything has value if you look at it from the right angle, but if I did that, I would just be clicking little stars all day. So I think the best solution is to star nothing instead. There are some threads and posts that I would like to give more than one star, if I could, and that presents another problem. What if just one star isn't good enough? Ugh, this is hard!

If you would like a star, petition me. Like that'll ever happen. Can my stars be purple instead of green?

If you like the content of a post, you may click the star, indicating you like the post. Hope that helps.

What the cows said, it's a means to agree or disagree with a post with or without commenting.

It can also bump a thread for further viewing if you think it's needed.

Cheers.

Oh and your avatar is taken on this board

Cannot star your OP so I gave you a flag. I would LOVE to be able to star more than once. Also what a great concept to have a colored star!

I do not think that a star will bump a thread.

Yeah board business should be exempt from stars! So to not feel bad about not clicking stars ever, I'll create all of my threads here so no one can give me stars, propriety be damned!

Its something like this:
IE. if you have a vivid imagination like myself picture the carrot as a star.
It's a marketing ploy designed to give people something to strive for, same as the mod status, silver and gold border status,flags all marketing tools designed to keep members interested, the feeling of excelling in the particular field IE. stars, flags for threads releases endorphins the person feels important when gaining mass numbers on threads when in fact in reality out side of the site it means nothing.

Those stars do really make me feel good about myself. If I accumulate enough of them, can I trade them in for some unleavened flatbread so I don't have to eat my other cat?

It's like the like button on facebook. Like what a person has to say in their post? Star it.

Funny mods. I was just over at the Linda moulton Howe thread. Page six... about to give a star........BLOOP! All the stars disappeared.

At least when a star is given. We know someone read it and found it interesting or agreed. When no stars are given. We don't know when to shut up.
And vice versa

The star encourages us to do more research or drop it.

I tend to give stars to the star needy, if they deserve a star.
Some are star greedy and/or star rich, and don't need any more.

(usually)

I believe in equality.

For me a well written and illustrated OP presentation always gets a star and flag, no matter if I agree with the thread or not. Lot of stars for posts I agree with, or those that put a new twist on a topic, or some just for the funny. I usually star someone who has no stars, no matter what they've said (lots of times a thread or post will bring a new member in to comment, and starring them is one way of saying "yo").

For what it's worth, I've always tended to star people for one of two things. Either they agree with points I hold in some exceptional way (not necessarily agreeing in posting, but the same thinking) or I can just see they put real work into something and I don't have to even agree to give a star in that case.

I tend to give stars for content:
If it made me think deeper;
If it brought a new concept or new information;
If it was exceptionally tactful and considerate of an opposing view, AND especially;
If it was funny.

I find myself having a hard time giving a star if the poster is, for the most part, rude, unkind, insulting, hurtful, ridiculing, etc in the majority of their frequent posts- no matter how pleasant this one post might be on rare occasions.

I would love to be able to give a star, flag, or some sort of recognition for the creative avatrs and signatures. Some of them are just way over the top!
