Mei Zhang and collegues from Australia and the USA from the University of Texas at Dallas have managed to downsize to the nanoscale the ancient art of spinning wool, making possible such devices as an Artifical muscle and super-strong superlight Bullet-Proof body armor. "The present work reduces the diameters of fibers used for spinning by a factor of 1,000, increases twist by about the same factor, and discovers useful properties for the resulting spun carbon nanotube yarns." the team says.

The robotics industry will benefit greatly of course, no more need for bulky and noisy hydrolics for joints anymore.
