Black and white choices are often known as false dilemmas for very good reason, but admittedly, for true believers whether political or religious, far less thought is involved in simplistic belief than that troublesome consideration of evidence issue. Much better just to "pick a side and stand firm" regardless of any facts that might present themselves, right?

It is truly disheartening to see partisan nonsense, coupled with sophomoric logical fallacies and forensic "dirty pool" intended only to discredit the "other side" at any cost ... presented as rational dialogue, as if everyone with different opinions about political issues must be utterly demonized ... and if anyone responds to that in kind or at all, well, that's just conveniently reduced to "more PC" and then offered up as proof of victimization and a babbling tautology of intolerance.

"You're intolerant."

"No, you're intolerant for pointing out my intolerance! Also, you're a dingy-dongy poopy-face! Nyah!"

*sigh*

Such tactics turn rational debate into a puerile sideshow.

In my opinion.

No matter who does it. If any of you see me doing it, feel free to slap me, virtually. Cheers.

What I find hypocritical about the Conservative right is that they will criticize and rag on any left leaning celebrity when they express an opinion, but when one of their own gets called on his BS; it's whine and crybaby time. awww poor baby....

No. That was completely wrong. Personally, I don't like MSNBC but their viewership was pretty upset about that.

It's awkward, isn't it.

Stating that girls aren't mature enough or smart enough or are too naïve to understand what a grown man might say to them, yet state that they are mature enough, smart enough to determine what they can do with their own bodies.

I think the idea of child brides are sick and twisted. I also think that girls aren't mature enough to make decisions on abortions and birth control at that age.

But then again, I try to be consistant.

I understand what you are saying Beezer but I can't wholeheartedly agree.

As a counselor I see these problems, real problems, real people.

I have met 14 year olds that are quite capable of making all of these decisions. It seems that everyone thinks they will get trapped by some gross but suave character. Not so. There are a great deal of 14 year olds that can tell them very clearly to # off.

On the other hand I have met 40 year olds that should not be let near such a decision.

This is the problem. Age of consent, marriageable age, even driving age are all based on physical age as if all of our youth are exactly the same. They are not. They are not all square pegs to ram into round holes.

What these decisions require is a psychological age and that age varies based on all sorts of factors.

What you do not see because it is invisible, is the huge number of decisions made by our youth, made 24/7 across the world and that decision is "NO, I don't want to." It happens a lot all through the teenage years for one reason or another.

Unfortunately, this concept is something our law makers, enforces and judges simply could not understand.

I don't care what your assessment of Beezers comments, I was referring to YOUR comment.

Sure because acknowledging that teenagers do stupid things too early in life, like have sex

That was YOUR comment.

The hell are you even on about?

I don't know, read my post without so much bottled up hatred and then we will talk.

My point was to say that teenagers are going to have sex and will be stupid about it if they don't have access to birth control

That was in my response to you. You seem to need heaps of clarification so here goes... I wasn't saying that having sex at 15 is stupid, per se... I meant that 15 year old girls will be stupid and have unprotected sex if they don't have access to birth control.

Do you understand now?

No. That was completely wrong. Personally, I don't like MSNBC but their viewership was pretty upset about that.

My point being that episodes such as the one I linked are absolutely rampant in left-leaning media outlets. Does it exist on the right? Of course, but nowhere even remotely near the frequency that the left sets for a pace.

From practically every leftist, all you hear is how the conservatives are "teabaggers", "Racist", "Homophobic", "Intolerant", "Bible Thumpers", "Rednecks"... oh let's not forget that all conservatives are also "White", "Rich", "Fat", "stupid", "Backward", "Neanderthals", "Narrow minded", and the coup de grâce, "Domestic Terrorists" for simply daring to have a different view and opinion from that of the progressives.

That is an awful lot of name-calling for the supposedly most 'tolerant', 'enlightened' and 'open-minded' among us to be doing, wouldn't you agree?

On mainstream news? Have you lost your mind? You're posting nonsense. Meanwhile you'd be hard pressed to find a thread anywhere on all of ATS that doesn't contain at least one person slamming leftists or liberals or talking about some freaking left/liberal agenda. Show some examples of your claim please.

Ok, on first thread that was about living with lesbians make your kid gay I said that he`s not good news and would probably make your kids victims by letting him stay in your house. And I don`t even know the guy.

And now this news. I`m really glad that I don`t know who he is and really don`t want to know. But still can`t get into my head how so many people are still listening to this mumbo jumbo.

Less his quotes, the better...really nothing more to say here.

Excuse me,... but in AMERICA you have the right to be an idiot... he just happens to be RICH!!!

Why aren't there threads about CORPORATE ELITES and their personal opinions? Maybe because the people in charge of these networks aren't interested in exploiting themselves...

And I will defend that idiot all day!!!

But of course we should all be like YOU!!! right?

This man has done NOTHING WRONG other than SPEAK HIS VIEWS...

If you don't like his views... FINE but don't expect validation of YOUR views of him...

There is a reason the thread starter called them faux hillbillies, before they started duck dynasty, they got picked up for their youtube series. Before that? They were clean cut yuppies playing on golf courses.

These guys know exactly what they are doing.

They even rent houses for the show because they all live in mansions, but rent simpler houses so they can pull of the guise that they are still just "everyday guys."

They are as valid as Larry the Cable guy.

Who is this nice looking family?

I did a quick bit of research on some of the terms attributed above to "leftists" ... here's the result of about 10-15 minutes of research:

"One more yuppy girl came a little closer to becoming a redneck today, America may be saved yet ." (Phil Robertson) (Source)

"His redneck blood is thinning." (Phil Robertson) (Source)

“We're Bible-thumpers who just happened to end up on television.” (Phil Robertson) (Source)

“When a gay person turns his back on you, it is anything but an insult; it’s an invitation.”
(Rush Limbaugh) (Source)

“Let the unskilled jobs that take absolutely no knowledge whatsoever to do — let stupid and unskilled Mexicans do that work.” (Rush Limbaugh) (Source)

“You just gotta be who you are, and I think it’s time to get rid of this whole National Basketball Association. Call it the TBA, the Thug Basketball Association, and stop calling them teams. Call ‘em gangs.” (Rush Limbaugh) (Rush Limbaugh) (Source)

"But obviously, we've got to stand with our North Korean allies." (Sarah Palin) (Source)

"I think on a national level your Department of Law there in the White House would look at some of the things that we've been charged with and automatically throw them out." (Sarah Palin) (Source)

"You know, it took me about a year to start hating the 9/11 victims’ families. It took me about a year." (Glenn Beck) (Source)

"Conservatives have a problem with women. For that matter, all men do."
(Ann Coulter) (Source)

"If we took away women's right to vote, we'd never have to worry about another Democrat president."
(Ann Coulter)Source

"The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians." (Pat Robertson - no relation to Phil) (Source)

This is by no means an attempt at a complete record of such quotes, only a few that readily appear with simple browser search. Your mileage may vary.

I am a female late 20's and what are you talking about? That was my point. Duh Don't you think any man with 15 - 16 year old daughters wouldn't bust a cap off in his AZZ.

That was my point.

I have a two, almost three year old daughter and I have thought this through many times.

I hate the image of the irrational father who cannot come to terms with the fact that his daughter is a human being and is going to want to have sex.

When my daughter is 15 or 16 and actually wants to have sex with someone, I am not going to go "busting caps" in anyone--no matter WHO her partner of choice might be.

That entire attitude is so backwards and irrational. It's like children that cannot cope with reality so they need their sugar-coated, manufactured concepts to play in.

That is not to say that if someone actually harmed my daughter (you know, like rape) that I wouldn't rip their throats out with my bare hands-because I would.

But the entire concept of the over-protective father "protecting" his virgin daughters from sex is retarded. There is no better word to describe it. Retarded.

Im not condoning that in any way, but its not that when many states and countries have a very...very low age of consent, so its not considered that in those...though it may be your opinion to call it that.

What about 15 year old boys? Shouldn't we be teaching them the responsibilities that come with sex? Should we not be teaching them about birth control as well? To put the whole birth control thing on the female gender isn't fair. A man can use a condom and take control of his procreative abilities.

If you're mature enough to determine sexual activity, you aren't mature enough to determine marriage?

You can't seriously be running with this completely unrelated topic in defense of this moron.

Either way, people allowing 13 year ol girls to have access to birth control is not saying that 13 year ol girls should be having sex, it's saying that if they're going to have sex regardless of any laws/advice/discipline than woul ensue, then they should have access to anything that would prevent them from getting pregnant and ruining their lives.

This is the worst argument you've had in a while beez, sorry.
