I was married at 16, my husband was 19, had two babies by 18, could cook, sew, clean, clean rabbits and squirrels, hunt, fish.

I am about Phil and Kays age, a little younger, he was 18 she was 16.

This video isn't new, already seen it. He has been pretty open about his life and at the time Phil and Kay were married he,

WAS NOT a Christian, so please quit say this is what Christians believe.

The issue really isn't whether a person is sexually mature at 13 years old. I see nothing in the discussion that could be characterized this way. The issue is whether a 67 year old who is advocating ignoring (in many cases) laws which were designed, I think all would agree, to protect children who are not mature enough to make reasonable decisions. Laws have to be arbitrary to some extent, for good or bad. (Yes, my personal opinion is that in many cases, laws either go too far or are ineffective at legislating morality, but that's not germane here.)

Focusing on the sexual decision-making skills of 13 year-olds is a red herring of the first order, here. The focus in this discussion is on the moral authority, or lack thereof, of a fully adult man who is suggesting, at least in many States, illegal activity that can be harmful to the physical and mental health of a minor.

It's so much more than that. This man child was talking about getting them while they are young, before they grow into fully adult women so that they can be "trained" to be good wives. In other words to take away the possibility that a girl will grow into a woman that he doesn't feel makes a good wife. There's nothing wrong with a woman who chooses that for her lifestyle, a hunter's wife that will stay home and take care of the house and family and pick her husbands ducks. There are women out there that want that life, why not encourage men to go out and find such a woman as opposed to grooming a girl into becoming that woman. It is a very insecure person that thinks grooming someone into being the type of partner they want is how to get what they want. Be a goddamn man and find that woman as an adult/be a goddamn woman and go find that man as a grown man... that's what makes for a stronger bond and union. Don't fall in love with a body or a face and expect to mold them into what you want, go find that existing person.

Jeeze...

In defense of Phil, even though I wouldn’t normally do this, most societies have no problem with girls that age as long as they reach puberty.

This age thing in America is arbitrary... something that they have decided is legal and moral has no scientific or moral basis in anything...since the ancient biblical people married even younger

Post modern man has evolved to think it is wrong for woman to get married that young but this is a cultural norm not any moral or scientific law that says woman can't get married at 14, 15, or above.
The norm should be that they do this on their own choice.
Age beyond the puberty question is arbitrary.

WOW, once again he makes a "generalized statement" to how it should be in the "OLDEN DAYS" and it's taken for GOSPEL!!! So is it better for these young girls to have sex with a dozen or two boys a year??? Let the man speak his mind, don't judge least YOU be JUDGED!!! He's HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY and has been with the SAME woman ALL HIS LIFE..It worked for him!!!

If one enthusiastically supports Phil Robertson and all he stands for (which to my mind is the equivalent of really bad dinner theatre, by-and-large), any comment that suggests that he is anything less than an ideal representative of moral values is seen as an attack on him, and by proxy, upon them. The resulting defenses and counter-defenses are very prevalent in these discussions.

Phil is an ultra conservative christian and the views he expresses are no different than those expressed in thousands of churches every Sunday. Additionally, many of his views(homosexuality, bestiality, early marriage, etc) are mirrored by other conservative religions, namely Islam. He isn't saying anything that millions of people don't accept as (literally) God's own truth.

The point here is that although I do not agree with what Phil is saying, I support his right to say whatever he wishes.

With that said, I would like to illuminate some facts. Many believe that teenage marriages were common in the United States at some point in the past, but that is just not the case. Teenage marriage may have been more prevalent in the past but never was it the norm. Below is a chart of median age of first marriage from the 1890's to present

I wonder how many ATS members that support Rev. Phil would be willing to marry off their daughters at 15?

Not many I'll wager!!

Rev. Phil is in the same category as Pat Robertson....a fool....and those that support him aren't much better and probably worse because they refused to learn anything even remotely connected with reality.

Free speech is one thing.....being a dumbass is another.

Aren't we fortunate to live in a country where foolish entertainment and dumbass "stars" can mold an entire culture of viewers. quack quack....

Metallicus

Finally, the age of consent for sex and the legal age for marriage is 16 in the majority of US states, Europe and all of Canada. In other words okay with society and NOT illegal.

You failed. Try again.

You better think twice on that! If the guy is 18 or older, and the girl is under 18, that's statutory rape, my friend. Consensual or not. Now if all parents agree, two teens can get married but only after those parents sign off on the deal.

One parent cries foul on a sexual relationship between that 18 year old boy and 17 year old girl, and that boy is jail bound and on the sexual predator list for life.

Not many people would willingly let their 15 or 16 year old daughters marry anyone. The reason is because at 15 or 16 and, I would argue up to the mid twenties for some people, a person is easily molded. This way if a man marries a young woman he can mold her into what he wants her to be. You see Phil mentioned "picking your ducks" but it can expand into anything from religious beliefs to their sexual preferences. In my opinion it is a culturally semi-accepted method of brain washing.

A side effect of this is that future generations are influenced by the previously molded individuals and the process continues.

As a person who at one time saw the world through religious colored glasses, I cannot say Phil is a fool. All I can say is that he is unable to see beyond what he has always been told is the truth. I can tell you from experience that if all you have ever known is the church then seeing outside of its walls is very difficult and most do not want to entertain the possibility of a life without religion. The best way to put it into words is that after so many years believing one thing you enter into some sort of stockholm syndrome with said religion, defending the dogma even in the face of overwhelming facts to the contrary.

I have lived long enough to learn I know nothing and anyone (Phil included) who speak from the pulpit of absolute authority should be viewed as questionable at the very least.

My views are completely different.

You too have your own views.

I'm not seeing the relevance regarding this story.... am I missing something??

Really?

'Pedophilia' is such a hype word... dim wits dont even know what it means.

Last time I checked, 99% of 15+ year olds are not children, physically.
Its only in our "advanced" western societies, namely Sweet Baby Jesus' Promised Land, MUURRKAA,
that we coddle our children until 21+, and delay all real aspects of life for them. No wonder Americans are so weak and lame.

This is another form of puritanical thinking though it is likely good intentioned not to have woman or men to have sexual contact until, what is the age, I really don’t know? I imagine it’s a state thing.
Also, btw, I think a person can get married at 15, or 16 with the permission of their parents, is that right, I really don’t know?

If it isn’t the case, then Phil may have been advocating a crime

He wasn't a Christian at the time he married, Kay was, he admits he was bad and chased his wife and children off.

Kay stood her ground incouraging Phil to talk to a man about Jesus, something he had no knowledge of.

She molded him.

After he became a Christian their life turned around for the better.

...but he thinks it is OK for grown men to hang around high schools looking for a mate.

way to go manipulating his words..
in no way was advocating a grown man dating or marry a high school girl. he was telling a story about a conversation he had with his son... who is also in high school. He's saying if you love each other then get married, don't wait until your in your 20's

but of course you would know no of this, as all you read was the headline and first paragraph of the article

Phil Robertson Says Girls Should Be Married Off at “15 or 16”

His advice for a happy marriage is to make like R. Kelly and hang out in high-school parking lots. "You got to marry these girls when they are about 15 or 16. They'll pick your ducks."

The right's favorite faux hilly billy Phil Robertson advocates pedophilia. So not only is he against gays..but he thinks it is OK for grown men to hang around high schools looking for a mate.

You sure can pick them conservatives...

All this is actually meaningless to a certain point. For instance, there is a difference between a 16 year old girl and boy. The girl is far more mature and the boy is immature and has no sense of stability, loyalty, or responsibility. The girl often does. I am a man of about 55 and I have observed this during my lifetime.

When I was 28 I married my wife when she was 18. I had known her as a person since she was 12 years old because we lived in the same town. Yet my brother married a woman 10 years older than himself. My marriage is happy and strong and almost 28 years long.

Back in the "old days" women were married young. The average life expectancy for a man was 35 to 40 years. So you kinda had to hurry up.

In today's world where the liberal socialist immoral left advocates condoms and birth control for 13 and 14 year olds, sex is about as prolific as it comes. When I was 13 I wanted to play baseball, go to the movies, and be home for dinner. Today a 13 year old wants to have sex, play some violent video games, and steal something for kicks. There is quite a difference that I have seen as the years zip on by.

Bottom line, the liberal lefties have nothing on Phil because he's not advocating pedophilia, he's saying girls married young would be better than girls having sex every day with every other man in town. They would be married and most probably stay that way, not being welfare candidates.

btw, I didn't read the article so I don't know the whole story.
