Happy Birthday Muzzy.

Don't go to work. Spend the day doing what ya want. The more Birthdays we have the less we get to really enjoy them.

LIVE IT UP!!

thanks, yeah I'm having the day off. Well sort of, had to get a quote out today, done that.
Might take a nap shortly, been waking up at 3am the last 2 mornings PTES (Post Traumatic Earthquake Syndrome)
Have heard a few other people here say the same, disrupted sleep patterns, its a real thing.
You are allowed to take a nap anytime you like, after you turn 60, so I heard

No more than 2 aftershocks of that 5.5 on Tuesday morn.
I was reading up on aftershocks, if they occur within 1 length of the rupture length away from the main shock, they are called aftershocks,
its been 8 months, which is a long time, but it was 10km away from the 6.3Mw in January, and the rupture length of the 6.3, based on the bulk of the smaller aftershocks over the first 5 months, was approx. 12km to the south and 8.7km to the north, and the fact the 5.5 hasn't hasn't has more than 2 direct a/s, I'd say that;
this was an aftershock of the 6.3Mw
and its been the only M5 aftershock!, one magnitude less than the m/s
Baths law, took a while!

ABSOLUTELY! I do if I feel the need. It refreshes the brain. Don't forget you only 'repair' your body when you are asleep so not getting enough is a problem. Mm, yes it certainly is!

@bird-rising: Thanks for noting that article. VERY interesting and seems to point again towards the electrical nature of the universe. I still find it very strange that we cannot pinpoint any influence of the sun on earthquakes although I am convinced there must be - except - maybe the reason I don't get pulled off into the Sun is because it is so small? How can such a tiny object revolving around the Earth have any effect on anything?

that was a pretty brutal one, I think its going to get a higher rating, First time ever that I can remember that something actually broke/fell off of a shelf at the house.

Yesterday there was a smaller earthquake in Alaska as well, and similar activity is occurring in central and south America. These earthquakes are still being caused by the lava plumes which seem to still be moving in the north and south American tectonic plates.

www.iris.edu...

For what I have seen occurring in the last few months the plume in the North American plate seems to be moving from north to south, if it continues we will soon see again seismic activity in Washington, watch mt Rainier, and then California.

Activity at Mammoth Lakes, Calif is picking up again.

169 quakes in the last 24 hours.
59 just in the last hour & a half.

Hello friends!!!!!!! Been away (but lurking a bit) for a while.

Anyway... about the Alaska earthquake. I read on a news site that it was a long lasting quake. However they failed to mention how long it lasted. I'm wondering if anyone knows? Or if any of our Alaska friends who went through it could enlighten us?

And I agree with WOQ... what in the world is going on at Mammoth Lakes?! It is on the outskirts of the Long Valley Caldera.
