I hate to beat a dead horse regarding Puerto Rico...but it has not stopped!

And now all the 3's have seemed to move over a little west of the 6'er last week.

I wish I knew why.

GSAIM picked it up!, that is the beauty of that system, regardless if Useless pins it below, usually one of the others have it right.
I thought everyone went to GSAIM now every day to see the results, so I didn't post it (sarcasam).
Actually that gal from berkeley did, then it was edited as downgraded to 5.9.

Another interesting quake in Romania.

Magnitude mb 4.8
Region ROMANIA
Date time 2014-01-23 06:15:03.0 UTC
Location 45.52 N ; 26.24 E
Depth 150 km
Distances 121 km N of Bucharest, Romania / pop: 1,877,155 / local time: 08:15:03.0 2014-01-23
51 km E of Braşov, Romania / pop: 276,088 / local time: 08:15:03.0 2014-01-23
12 km N of Nehoiu, Romania / pop: 11,350 / local time: 08:15:03.0 2014-01-23

Romania has a lot of very deep quakes. There is interesting geology, its not even near to plate boundaries. There is seismic zone called "Vrancea earthquake zone", where earthquakes happen between 70km-200km deep. They can also be very strong, max M7.0-M7.8. The area is so mysterious, that it hasn't been properly categorized. It may be part of Wadati-Benioff Zone, but there isn't enough evidence for this.

Who does enjoy a little skuttlebutt in the morning?

Anyone remember a few weeks back when a few articles were floating around, (such as this Science Daily one posted here, by rickymouse), that were summarizing a newly published paper in Seismological Research Letterss on EQL--Earthquake lights?

Well, the journal Nature also published a short news summary of the paper. The comments following the article are epic! Start reading from the bottom of the page to follow the back-and-forth chronologically.

It's got everything: Establishment versus outsider, mainstream versus so-called "fringe" research, principals, peers, journalists, & a few lay-persons. A fascinating glimpse "behind the curtain". Well worth the 20 minutes, or so, to read every comment.

My take; the "establishment" comes off as arrogant and dismissive--although I understand the scientific necessity behind the sentiment "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence".
More importantly, alternative fields of inquiry need more voice and more interdisciplinary collaboration, such as Puterman, JadedandCynical, and others have been saying for years.

Enjoy!

2 Readers of EQ Archives have picked up that I had posted the summary for the Eketahuna, NI, NZ 6.3Mw, 20/01/2014 earthquakes and aftershocks last night, not sure if they came from here or not.
No one has read the original posted as a permanent page on EQ Archives NZ 2006-2014 though.

summary of data at the 60hr (2.5 days) elapsed time mark
mag1= 404 , mag2= 257 , mag3= 46
mag4= 2 , mag5= 0 , mag6= 1
total= 710
total energy released= 28,463.005 TTNT

still getting about 100 aftershocks every 12hrs
Still no sign of the M5 aftershock yet!!???!!

19 a/s maps and 1 graph and a brief written summary of what other media were reporting about it.
3 day marble spill graph due out later today when I download the Geonet data.

Great find that. John Vidale getting hot under the collar as geology dogma is brought into question.

Unfortunately he does not understand that the dogmatic view is probably not correct and we do live in an electric universe. That all material is abiotic surprises me not one bit. Do geologists seriously believe that all the water on earth came from comets.

*rolls on the floor laughing till my sides hurt*

Really? With hydrocarbons being produced throughout our solar system and probably the galaxy there is no doubt in my mind where the water came from or why there are deep reservoirs of 'ancient' water. It certainly is NOT from percolation from above.

Wow, thanks for the call out! I'll make sure to read those as it sounds like the exact kind of thing I encourage myself.

I've been interested in alternate science for quite some time; meta-science, I guess you could say as it incorporates a scientific view and method in dealing with things traditionally outside of 'science'.

Things such as earthquake lights demonstrate that there are phenomena beyond traditional boundaries and shows in which areas we need to take further inquiries.

I'm thinking 2014 is going to the 'year of electricity' for me.

However the first recorded sightings of earthquake lights dates from 373 BCE in Greece. Although the explanations for the phenomena have changed over time and within different cultures, the details have been remarkably consistent. For example “pyramids of a fiery red colour” and “elliptical corona of amazing brightness” were observed about two weeks before an earthquake that was felt in London, England in 1749-1750.

Luminous Shapes with Unusual Motions as Potential Predictors of Earthquakes: A Historical Summary of the Validity and Application of the Tectonic Strain Theory

Study of this has been happening for quite some time as one can see here, and even in to more modern times as well:

During the early twentieth century, luminous phenomena, occurring between a few km to several hundreds of km from epicentres, were reported by Italian and German seismologists. Milne [3] reviewed the significant work published in 1910 of Ignazio Galli [4] who categorized the luminous phenomena accompanying earthquakes into four categories each with several subcategories. In 1931 the Japanese researcher Terada [5] summarized the luminous phenomena observed in the sky or on the ground before, during, and after the time of severe shocks in Japan. The categories, which were very similar to those of Galli, included luminous masses, fireballs, bright funnels, beams of fire, and flames.

Now that technology has advanced to sufficient levels, we are able to better study these happenings in great detail and collate that research across multiple fields of inquiry. I am extremely excited to see what further research reveals!

Still reading through the comments, there is a very heated debate between John Vidale and Friedemann Freund that is extremely illuminating and John is clearly showing himself to be a shill (yes, I said it) for the draconian grip of 'establishment science' and this comment tears all of John's arguments to shreds.

For those of non British Commonwealth extraction, who may not know what "Marbles" refers to, here is the game Marbles
When my brothers and I played when we were kids, often the one who was losing would tip all their marbles out to end the game in confusion... hence Marble Spill LOL

I know this was directed at PM, but here are a few salient links I've found as I recall reading about many of these items over the years.

"Titan is just covered in carbon-bearing material — it's a giant factory of organic chemicals," said Ralph Lorenz, a Cassini radar team member from the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. "This vast carbon inventory is an important window into the geology and climate history of Titan."

Titan Has More Oil Than Earth

Elsewhere, we find this:

What we found is evidence for complex hydrocarbons. We have spent 40 years looking for hydrocarbons on Mars, and never found them. Then we look in the remotest part of the solar system, and here they are! We're not sure what kinds of hydrocarbons they are yet, but they aren't central to biology. We use them for fuel.

Have we discovered fuel on Pluto?

There has long been interest in deep-space hydrocarbons (do a google search for "PAH" and "Spitzer"), but they have also been found within the local stellar neighborhood.

As to ancient water beneath, I look forward to seeing PMs response to that along with his other sources of hydrocarbons in near-sol space.
