A couple years ago I thought "Torchwood: Miracle Day" was actually an entirely new show. In a sense it was but not really. It was new to the US and it was on Starz but there were 3 seasons previous from the BBC that i did not know about until another member told me. Well long story short I just finished all 4 seasons and I loved it minus the last season.

Ok now what happened in the 4th season?? WHY did they come to the US and STARZ? I actually preferred it when it was on BBC and shot over in England. I didn't like the US version. To me it didn't stick to the story of Torchwood, or what I thought it was about...aliens and the rift. The 4th season imo was weak and I couldn't stand the story line esp after they revealed what the "miracle" was. It seemed rushed and it was just stupid.

I really enjoyed the show up until the last season and was wondering if anyone across the pond had any more information as to whether or not it will return and go back to it's original story lines.

To me it was like Buffy the Vampire Slayer only instead of a Hellmouth there was a "rift" and instead of demons and vamps there were aliens!

I guess this is what happens when I watch stuff on Netflix after it has aired a few seasons. I'm watching Dr. Who now and it's a slow start. I find some episodes very boring and others are awesome. I also don't care for the girl in it. Don't know why I just don't like her. I am sure she will grow on me!

As far as I know, there are no plans to make any more episodes of Torchwood over here - it's very much the product of Russell T Davies's imagination, and the last UK-made episodes and the US-UK co-production tell the story of his own disenchantment with the UK and his infatuation with the US, where he now lives and works. As you rightly observe, it's downhill all the way. A brilliant concept killed by one man's ego (in my opinion of course).

Where have you got to with Dr Who? If you're talking about the current girl companion, Clara, I also dislike her. She lacks the feistiness and depth of character of other recent companions: again, this may well reflect a change in creative personnel. I hope the 'new' Doctor, Peter Capaldi, who first appeared in this week's Christmas special, will revitalise the series.

Torchwood is most likely done unfortunately. Treat it like firefly. lots of fans want more, but there most likely won't be.

And...Who is the companion? which season of Doc Who you on atm?

I have had a few people jump on the Who bandwagon, I always start them in season 5. There is a reason for that actually I won't go into, but yeah, the shows are hit and miss, especially in the earlier seasons (pre-moffat as head).

also, you will understand torchwood a lot more while watching Who, after all, it all started there, the cast, the rift, etc...

Some minor gripes about your second paragraph.
A new doc won't change anything. Moffat, whom I think is absolutely brilliant when focused...isn't focused. He has Sherlock going on and seems to be generally uncaring about Who at this point (well, sorta. not really. he said he does one season on a great arc, the next season is mostly standalones, back and forth...and everytime he does a standalone season, they suck...reflected by ratings, no character depth, and poor reviews. He is great on big sweeping arcs, but can't do a single story to save his life it seems anymore. So, revitalization will only happen if he is either replaced, or refocuses.

Smith and season 5-7 exploded the series and gained huge status in the states. Smith is brilliant, he is going to be extraordinarily difficult to replace. Lets not give many more spoilers though.

oh dear goodness, not this nonsense on television again, I am severely disappointed with the generations who enjoy watching this garbage instead of picking up a Tom Clancy novel- you will never learn anything in these sci-fi movies other than exploring your own imagination- which isnt essentially bad but the whole sodomy thing-- made me stop, gag, put down the remote and drink a bottle of bourbon.

The reason why is that just crossed the red line in terms of youth programming of what is acceptable to show on television and what is not acceptable to show on television from a perspective of development of young minds, you wouldnt want to bombard a young person with pornographic images or half the things on the internet-

It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again.

Torchwood was rubbish.

We call it 'Doctor Who for gays" (said in a welsh accent) in our house. - and that's not being homophobic, it's just an honest appraisal of who the show is aimed it.

We already have a sub-standard Doctor Who, why do we need another one who's a bit too obsessed with sex?

The writers of Torchwood buried themselves under a mountain feces they'll never dig out of it. They started out with an appealing cast of characters, and it turned out the main character was queer. We could accept that, and kept watching this new queer hero. But then, it turned out that the queer super hero had to sacrifice a child in a ritual manner to make things right. So super heroes can be queer, if they practice ritual sacrifice of children.

That pretty much shut down the show, both for supporters of queers and non supporters. Its not coming back.

I love Doctor Who. I hated Torchwood.
I liked when Doctor Who had episodes with Torchwood ... but the Torchwood series SUCKED.

I can't stand her character. She annoys the daylights out of me.

The doctor being married to River and traveling with his motherinlaw and fatherinlaw (Amy and Rory) was the best of all the 'companions'. But Clara ... ugh.

Oh I'm sorry I didn't get your permission before i chose to watch a series of my CHOOSING on Netflix. I could give one rats butt what you are disappointed in. I don't read books like Tom Clancy's. I prefer SCI FI. You know it's called PREFERENCE. What makes you think you would learn anything from Tom Clancy' garbage? HAHA ok yea please go away. I don't read fiction or science fiction. I prefer to read non fiction. I love to watch Sci Fi, it's my favorite. If you don't like it then well that is your preference but don't come in here telling me and other what to do. Go drink your bourbon.

WTF are you rambling on about? I'm 35 yrs old. I can watch whatever I want. Seriously sounds like you have some deep seeded emotional issues. I would much rather my teen, if I had one, watch this than shows like Bad Girls Club or any other reality show out there. A

GO AWAY! You are not contributing to this tread anything other than nonsense. Sounds like you've had far too much bourbon.

Well that sucks! Yea I so did not like the US version at all. He shouldn't be so infatuated with the US, it's nothing special!
Our tv shows suck now a days. I don't even have cable. I watch stuff on the Roku via streaming.

I want to like Clara, but the way she's being written is just hopeless. Leave you with very little to like.

I was really hoping Moffat would depart along with Matt Smith, so somebody new could take over and take the show in a better direction for Capaldi's Doctor.

Torchwood was best in season 1, then 2, and by season three Capt Jack was getting a little to flamboyant with the man kissing.

hey, its just not my thing.. no offense to anyone.

I'm only on Season 2 right now.

Well, Rose was a -decent- companion. Lots of reboot Who fans love Rose simply on merit that she was the first (of the new series). Also, the next 2 that come after her really were underwhelming (luckily neither lasted very long). The series really hits its stride at season 5 (and dares to go out of the kidsy nonsense into a somewhat darker overtone. New director who did some of the best one offs from previous season takes over at 5 and it is a big shift..along with in my opinion the best companion mix). There are some fantastic episodes before season 5 mind you...and backstory that will be somewhat necessary down the road (especially the library one).

Best to stay away from discussions and the like though. Who fans are fairly incapable of making spoiler free posts (as demonstrated by this thread...forget all you have read
)

As far as Torchwood...well, you pretty much got your answer I suspect. I liked it (I didn't care much for the gay stuff, but I am fairly comfortable with myself, so it didn't bother me much, just seemed like they were pushing for edgy and such. Being trendy as a aim moreso than actual purpose and story.). I think there was potential as the Rift is a concern, but Who spinoffs...well, the only one I think would work would be Jenny (You will meet her down the line)

Avoid Sarah Jane Smith Adventures..it was actually a kids show. Pretend it never existed.
