They would have to have a time machine to determine that, clocks are linear and constant, how do you know the sunspot number hundreds of years in the future, or how they would be designated? Marty! fire up the delorian.......

You can try if you want, but, this separation anxiety and abandonment issues over 2012 failing to produce is getting a bit awkward.

Maybe they were confused and it was 2120. If so let it happen baby..I 'll be long gone by then....I hope. When the world does come to an end.....like everything else, we'll be the last to know.

Uh, i think you forgot one how bout the Maya calendar? They never said "in 2012". So deciding a calendar is not really necessary. You just have to count 13 baktuns...add up the days. I don't know does that make sense? Either way...you still forgot a calendar buddy so you're not exactly off the hook either! After all, do you realize how many people are watching this thread intently? I have word they put some men on it.....TOP men.

They should have made a prophesy using the Water Snake calendar...that would be scaryyyyy!! I mean, a snake is bad enough as it is. But a water snake?! Are you kidding me?!?!?? You can't even see it because it's underwater!! What's it doing? Gee i dont know, it could be poised ready to launch its teeth directly at the most sensitive part of a man's body...that's right...I'm talking about the bottom of the foot! You can't even lift your feet to take a step to move anywhere because you're so damn scared! So yeah...basically you're gonna die no matter what you do. Is it poisonous? Of course it's poisonous! And it has jaws with a million rows of needle teeth... The Maya calendar just has a circle and some guy sticking his tongue out. We aren't afraid of circles and sticking your tongue out. We dealt with that in preschool. But a water snake? That's a thing that should only exist in the worst of nightmares! Or was the guy with the tongue an Aztec thing? The sun disc or something? I can no longer remember. All i know anymore is "water snake -----> bad".

I mean, cmon, it's underwater you people! You can't even see what it's about to do! Its just like the future in that way... Which I admit does make it an appropriate theme for a calendar. Ok, the worst of nightmares, and calendars. That's IT. A water snake should exist in no other format or venue...

Yes, but where do you start that count from? That's why the calendar is so important ... How do we know where day 1 actually is?

The year and number 2012 is meaningless. The mayans never gave a date 2012 or otherwise. The whole idea of the prophecy came from the idea of the end of the 13 baktuun, which has already ended regardless of what year other cultures and calendars assign to that end day.

Having said that though, I think the prophecy actually did come true and is coming true all around us. We see the signs of it in the news and on ATS everyday. The changes in technology, medicine, society that are accelerating rapidly.

There is a report of a new medical and technological advancement almost every week sometimes more; stem cell advancements, cloning organs, 3d printing organs and body parts, new perfect beat pacemakers, 3d technology in general that will completely change our way of manufacturing, drone developments, robots, exo suits, self driving cars, flying cars, new moon missions, mars missions, opening up space even commercially. Also look at all the threads talking about and debating the drastic shifting in morals and culture going on right now. And personally being part of the cusp generation, I can see it plan as day everyday, just looking at the drastic difference in understanding, beliefs, attitudes, morals and desire to uphold traditions, between the older generations; my parents and grandparents generations, and the younger generations; the children and grand children's generations.

A new world and a new age is being born right now and it will be radically different then the old one. Most of the people who think the prophecy was a failure are really just the people that expected to much from the changing of the ages. They are the instant gratification types and since, meteors didn't rain from the sky, aliens didn't show up in mass, nor did the earth suddenly shift dimensions, they think nothing happened. But anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear, can just look around them and at the recent post pages on a daily basis and see the whole world is a changing and changing pretty damn fast.

And frankly it looks like it is scaring the crude out of the old guard, but then their world and age; their way of doing things and traditions were never intended to last forever.
