Google reveals sharp rise in requests for removal of political content

Governments "requesting" political content be removed from the internet ?

Sounds like a bunch of paranoid lunatics are in power and on the loose !!

What could they possibly be so afraid of ?

Google is claiming most of this is coming from Turkey.
I wonder what their problem is lately.

• Annual transparency report has Turkey with most requests

• United States asked search giant to remove almost 4,000 items

From January to June 2013, the following countries made the most requests to remove content:

Turkey (1,673 requests for 12,162 items)

United States (545 requests for 3,887 items)

Brazil (321 requests for 1,635 items)

Russia (257 requests for 277 items)

India (163 requests for 714 items)

The countries listed had protests and civil disobedience, the people are standing up to the system, the governments want to suppress this movement.

The Conservatives have attempted to hide 10 years of speeches from the internet, it has emerged. The speeches, news stories, press releases and blogs, which date back to 2000 until the party came to power in May 2010, have been hidden from public view on the Conservative Party website.

They have also removed the record of their past speeches from internet search engines, including Google, according to Computer Weekly. It means those using the search engine to try to find the speeches on the Conservative Party website would simply get no results.

The removal of such a large collection of speeches will fuel speculation the Tories are attempting to make it difficult for people to hold them to account to pledges made ahead of the 2010 election with the 2015 vote looming. In addition the archive of information has been erased from the Internet Archive, which is the public record of the internet.

The specialist computer magazine explained that the Tories had used something called a robot blocker to remove the speeches, which effectively hides speeches in a "secretive corner of the internet like those that shelter the military (and) secret services".

I agree , Politics in this Country has become so OBSCENE to the Point of Embarrassment for most Americans , that maybe Removing THEM ALL is a Better Solution to this Problem ? ........

Momentum.

All they need do is interrupt it briefly and everyone will go back to sleep ... again.

Whats that? The "land of the free" trying to censor data?

The way your going in a decade or two china will be pitying you for you lack of freedoms!

Now what we need is a whistleblower inside Google to tell us what the governments are trying to hide.
There must be someone there with a conscience.
This is their opportunity.
