Now I think we all love a our doom porn here at ATS, well I do, so here is a good one for you.. So, I came across this app on Iphone that when you ask what will happen on that date it say's the gates of Hades will open on July 27th 2014. Now I don't for one minute think that will happen but it is weird why it would say such a thing. I don't know of any reason why it's there but it is, maybe it's a prank by the guys at Apple. So what do you think?

Well my phone says the same thing.. kind of creepy in my opinion.

It also says this for August 14, 2015 for some reason.

I asked Siri the same question.

She "said" Saturday, May 14, 2005.

Funnily enough I don't own an Iphone, I have an android and was wondering what Siri was. You just ask it anything and it will answer, is that right ?

Hmm....well July 27th is the day that Prot left Earth in K-pax....maybe a correlation there.

Yup. Mine too.

Although, the iphone calendar explains all holidays and cultural days like this i.e Assumption of Mary Day. August 15th.

Must be related to a day celebrated in a certain culture.

yeah its the same thing us droid users have been doing on our phones 2 years before siri existed. we just dont have a name for the voice on ours and we dont pretend its a real person. because you know, we are adults and this is a phone.

Well this is a bit unsettling....it also happens to be North Korea's Day of Victory in the Great Fatherland Liberation War celebration day.

North Korea calls July 27 its "Day of Victory in the Great Fatherland Liberation War". It blames the U.S. military presence in the South for confrontation on the peninsula.

Source

Wonder if this is intentional on Apple's part. Also makes me wonder if Apple has some sort of search intelligence built in that is allowing Siri to figure out answers based on calculating factual documentation available in electronic format and possibly picked up on this.

Oooo....conspiracies abound.

I think this is typical Apple tactic to hiply describe a "hot summer day" since the question without context is nonsensical.

Is Siri Muslim?

ETA: How about this explanation?

When Siri claims the gates of hades will open next July, she’s actually talking about the Chinese ghost month, which is the 7th month of the lunar year, and which Chinese legend says is accompanied by the opening of both the gates of hell and heaven.

Its not a real person? Bah! There's me thinking I was actually helping someone like stephen hawking stay in a job and remaining polite when he gets it wrong.

Its has to do with Ramadan. At the beginning of Ramadan the Gates of heaven open and the gates of hell close. Ramadan in 2014 will start on Saturday, the 28th of June and will continue for 30 days until Sunday, the 27th of July. In which July 27th 2014 the gates of Hades will reopen.

Think this is a plausible answer.

Try this

Curiously, Siri’s timetable for this imaginary apocalypse changes quite significantly if you reworded the question. Ask her explicitly when the gates of hell are opening, and she’ll tell you that we’ve actually all been living in hell since May 14, 2005.

I don't think July 27th, 2014 is significant as it says the same thing on August 14, 2015.

I'm sure if you figure out the correlation between the two dates, you will find the reason why this was put into the app.

Perhaps it means the new Hades Nightclub in downtown New York?

Or maybe, the Hades corner store in Banglalore?

Or even Hades & Son Candle Suppliers in Shanghai?

Don't jump to assumptions

the obvious question - what does SIRI use as a knowledge base ? it must have one

identify that - and the source of the " answer " will be apparent

PS - I suspect a programing prank
