We have all learned the lesson before about Pandora. I remember it being about a young lady who was instructed to not open a box that contained evil things in it and if opened would unleash them, never to be recaptured. The world would be forced to deal with unspeakable acts.

My question to you is what do you consider to be the proverbial "Pandora's Box" of our history?

Money? Fire? Oil? Religion? Electricity? Nuclear Power? Wireless Technology?

We have taken every conceivable advancement and found a way to abuse it.

What is the main catalyst?

Greed.
Many say money is the root of all evil, but what is money without worth?
Greed is the root of all evil.
Mega corporations, big government, Etc.

Without a doubt Splitting an atom was our first Pandora's Box.

Synthetic biology may be our future one ...

Venter's company, Synthetic Genomics, secured a deal with ExxonMobil to create a synthetic algae that theoretically will be able to absorb carbon dioxide from the air and convert it to biofuel.

According to researcher Jim Thomas of the ETC Group, who has spent the better part of a decade tracking developments in Synthetic biology "This is the quintessential Pandora’s box moment - like the splitting of the atom or the cloning of Dolly the sheep. We will all have to deal with the fall-out from this alarming experiment. Synthetic biology is a high-risk profit-driven field, building organisms out of parts that are still poorly understood
A Pandora's Box Moment? Synthetic Biology

I would have to say the very first Jacoby and Myers TV lawyer Ad. The beginning of the end was when attorneys started working on commission. Any jerk can sue now without so much as a good cause.

Ancient--------slavery
Modern........ a Lays potato chip commercial back in the 60s. A pretty little girl eating from a bag of
potato chips when a little boy approaches her and asks if he might have one. She refuses
and tells him to go get his own bag. So for the sake of sales, Frito-Lay came out and told
children it was ok to be selfish. And no one stopped them.

Very poignant.

And to make it worse, they then encouraged gluttony by proclaiming, "No one can eat just one".

Challenge accepted, Frito Lay. Challenge accepted.

Surely the question should be:

What is our current pandora's box? And what is the hope (spirit) at the bottom?

Culture wise at this present moment in time: Social sites

Hope: People starting to stop using them

This song by my favorite band Nonpoint called Pandora's Box is right on the money.

Save your stories for someone who cares
Leave your looks and your stares at the door
Grab a chair this is gonna take a second to explain
And I'm not repeating myself anymore

Look at all of the damage you've done
Crossed the line you've crossed with me
So game's over and reality's coming
Now I'm the boogeyman standing in front of you, now I'm gone

Dream time's over and the nightmare has begun
You broke the lock on Pandora's Box
And everything inside was lost

Even if you ran around picking up the pieces
Even if you find them all, where's that gonna leave us?
Right here dealing with a box
Top wide open with a broken lock

Where's that gonna leave us?
Where's that gonna leave us?

Every single one of your feelings are clear
The glass covered with you pulling in my ears
I'll be leaving scars that I'll be carrying for years
Just don't expect a reaction when you're turning on the tears

I've heard that excuse
Try living in the truth
You're #ed up, and confused
And lost without a clue
And your intentions were enough

It was all about you, you, YOU!

Dream time's over and the nightmare has begun
You broke the lock on Pandora's Box
And everything inside was lost

Even if you ran around picking up the pieces
Even if you find them all, where's that gonna leave us?
Right here dealing with a box
Top wide open with a broken lock

You can try and sleep for days
You would still wake up the same way
Blind, deaf and dumb to the truth
Your constantly running from
I wont waste my time explaining
What we both know I wouldn't be saying
Anything I haven't said before, before...

IT'S TIME TO WAKE UP!

Dream time's over and the nightmare has begun
You broke the lock on Pandora's Box
And everything inside was lost

Even if you ran around picking up the pieces
Even if you find them all, where's that gonna leave us?
Right here dealing with a box
Top wide open with a broken lock

Where's that gonna leave us
Where's that gonna leave us

Right here dealing with a box
Top wide open with a broken lock
