White House to allow jobless benefits to expire for 1.3 million

At the end of this year all benefits for 1.3 million jobless will end and will not be debated till next year.

They will be left with nothing at all.

many of you wanted this so your wish has been granted.

Lock your doors and arm yourselves.

These people are not scroungers they have worked and paid into the system,

www.theguardian.com...

Unemployment benefits (the first 26 weeks) are not welfare.
These benefits are not coming from the government but from the employer.
So it can't be considered welfare at all.
What is welfare is the extension of these benefits, that yes, come from the government as an aid.
It is the government who manage the monies in any case, thus the confusion.
But for anyone having the first normal benefits (26 weeks) it is an error and an insult to label them as "welfare suckers".
26 weeks is more than 6 months but in ancient times because of the extensions people could reach 99 weeks in some states. almost 2 years!
So for 1.5 years those people became welfare suckers, but very different from having kids to be granted more monies in EBT for example.
Those are really welfare suckers and mental ill people!
The unemployed people are just facing a hard time, most of them would prefer to have another job instead of having unemployment benefits, but since these are difficult times to find a job those benefits help a lot for some of them.

Good Lord, Americans love to whine and snivel. Before anyone gets the idea that I'm some haughty foreigner, I must avow that I am an American. I have received unemployment benefits in the past.
I was very thankful for them. I was almost in disbelief. I'm going to get 75% of my income for 6 months?
When they ran out, I lived a very austere lifestyle for some time. It sucked, yet here I am. While I feel sympathy for anyone who's having a tough go, I'd like to remind people that as we sit here on our high-speed internet connections, there are over a billion fellow Earthlings who don't have clean water to drink, and almost that many who are suffering from malnutrition and don't know if they'll eat tomorrow.

There are comments on this thread suggesting what a horrible tragedy it is that some people have exhausted their 50 plus weeks of benefits and are going to be inconvenienced this Christmas.

Unemployment insurance can't last forever. They extended how long people could be on it a while back but it's going back to normal now. A steady check in the mail tends to discourage job hunting anyway.

Restrict the ability for a person to feed them self naturally.
Force yourself into being their only path to food.
Continue until enough of the population is dependent.

Use food as weapon.

Rinse/Repeat... Own Planet.

Strange you say that...Russia has just called for a 10 year ban on GMOs until they can be properly tested for safety and are considering banning imports of monsanto GMO corn.

They are citing evidence gleaned from a French study that GMO corn causes tumors and cancers and diabetes.

What if...this is a plot to rid America (shortly followed by most of the rest of the world) of the 'unprofitable' people...stop the money, take away freedom of choice and offer them 'food aid'...but all of the food aid is GMO based, they might be able to significantly cut down the numbers of poor , in less than a decade through cancers and other diseases caused by the highly dodgy GMOs.

Not only that, but making tons of money for the overpriced healthcare
industry! I believe we are being killed by the corporate fat cats, slowly and surely
though the majority would surely disagree with us, at least until 5 or 10
years down the line when they start seeing their neighbors from home becoming
their neighbors at their local cancer ward!
I have no trust for government they have shown their true colors too often
and too often they only worry about campaign contributions and leave the writing
of laws to the cronnie lobbying groups!
I feel as if we will continue down this road and not choose to correct our coarse until
it's already to late for most!
As for those that lost their unemployment, I'm very sorry for your loss but this had
to happen sooner or later! I expect this is the beginning of the austerity cuts until
the riots begin! Then I expect BHO to call out the national guard and slaughter the
suffering people just trying to get a bite to eat! I expect this is where we will all
be heading!
Even though the world did not end at the end of the Mayan calendar
maybe the great changes envisioned by them are around the corner! Even though
this may come to pass if may actually be needed for us to create a more utopian
society! One only some of our children could see at the end of a great purge and
enormous suffering!
May God have mercy on us all and let us hope and prey that peace will eventually
find its way into the hearts of all who survive only to relearn what it is about people that
brought us to be the most dominant species on this tiny blue and green ball!

My wish is that people band together to work together if they are going through a hard time. Not saying it's easy. It's not. My mom once was on welfare for four years while she got in debt putting herself through nursing school. We had help from our family and lived with my aunt for awhile.

While welfare helped my mom get to a better place in her life. I feel like we could have survived without it. We may not have been able to improve our situation but we would have survived. I also feel like many people to not try to improve their situation like my mom did and instead choose to make irresponsible job and money decisions because they can just take advantage of the system.

Does this hurt everyone including those using the system the way it was meant? Yes, unfortunetly but I think that is the result of too many handouts to people that don't work to remove themselves from that situation. I have very little sympathy. I wish the best of luck to those that weren't taking advantage of the system simply because they could. May your families and friends help you get through these troubled times.

As for the rest of the people hurting the system and making it harder for people legitimately trying to remove themsevles from welfare: enjoy your hell.

I have seen a great deal more people take advantage of the system then work with it and as someone who comes from background that needed that kind of help and didn't take advantage of it. I can't stand those f@cking selfish people.

Thank you my brother for reminding us of the great suffering going on outside this nation!
As we face our own problems it becomes very easy to forget that even the worse off of
Americans have it easy as opposed to nearly one fifth of the population on this planet!
I don't mean to belittle any of the very serious problems we all face just to make us all
see that there are those that have it far worse!
I don't expect this to remain the case though! I expect life here in the US to deteriorate
exponentially unfortunately! Our selfish nature will lead to civil war here in this once
prosperous land! I expect to see race, class and area differences which will probably lead
to civil strife and eventual full blown warfare! I expect the DC area to take the full brunt
of much hatred across the east and Hollywood taking the brunt across the west!
From there I can't even guess which way things will go but I expect it wont be good!
I expect tactical nuclear warfare may be an option for some of the smaller factions with
no other options! I expect this will make what happened in Russia after the fall of the soviet
union look like a tea party in comparison! I wish I was wrong on this front but I expect
things to get ugly here very quickly!
With so many well armed civilians and so many people here used to getting what they want
I expect there will be little room for compromise or cooperation! I can only hope to God I'm wrong
and hope that we can unite against the common enemy that has tyrannized us all! from there
I would hope that we could restore our nation to one of self sufficiency! one where we all have a
real voice and choices in how its run! A nation for the betterment of each other and aspires to
go beyond the greatness of the individual on to the greatness of unity and love for our fellow neighbors!
This world may just be a dreamers vision but it takes a dreamer to build all great things!

True. We are only on unemployment, never in our lives filed for welfare....we weren't expecting a stroke at 38, but it's odd, I can't bring myself to file for welfare...with 2 small children, & a husband that worked an honest job from 16-38, I probably should....just can't...I know, it sounds odd.....

Not sure if you realize this...but I went to an impoverished part of West Virginia and found out that everyone...EVERY man, family, woman, child of all ages...were on Welfare. Astounded by that I looked into it. What it is?

There is no work for anyone....nowhere...I mean no places, businesses...nothing up in the hills...and those people, their parents, their grandparents have always gotten welfare because the government is the only way they can survive up there.

Everyone was waiting for their monthly check. One was a grandma with 4 in her care...grandkids...and another healthy 26 year old male who no matter what, within 50 miles there is no where to work and because of that...no jobs at all for him or his friends either.

These folks will always get assistance. And now perhaps you can understand why. Never be too proud to ask when there is nowhere else to turn.
Blessings.....MS

Yes, they did pay into the system. In the states I've lived in, I paid in about $200 a year, plus whatever my employer did. 99 weeks of benefits uses much more than gets put into the system.

You paid nothing; it was your employer who did as it is their "tax" (or fee or whatever they are calling it now) that funded the Unemployed Insurance Fund in your given state. That said, you do indirectly pay for it via lower wages, but it is ultimately your employer who pays for it; not you.

99 weeks? Try 26 weeks. That is the average in which an employer is taxed to cover per employee. When the Federal Government forced the States to cover 99 weeks, it extended not only the budgets of the States, but that of employers.

Am i the only one that feels like NAFTA should be repealed. That we should stop our reliance on cheap foreign junk built with child labor?

Maybe bring back american manufacturing and other high paying industry. You know CAREERS not jobs.
Building air conditioners and televisions, not flipping burgers.

A way to support ourselves and our familys instead of this welfare state that nafta and bush made.

I gave you a star, but it was Clinton, not Bush would did NAFTA.

Well people do not feel so bad that welfare benefits and unemployment has been cut, my husband just find out that congress within the budget they are working right now and that has gotten the first vote to be passed tomorrow is cuts to veterans benefits including benefits for those that are disable coming from oversea, so hey our government doesn't give a crap about who they hurt in the road to fix the economic mess they have our nation into, as usual they lie about no cutting on the disable, the DOD already said that the cuts will affect them also.

So while people cry about benefits cuts on unemployment very soon the veterans in the nation will be crying too.

Don't you love the crooks we got for leaders in the nations, all they are good for is to screw the working poor class the productive class and those that serve the nation.

the US you set the two apart, unemployment benefit and welfare.

There is a reason the two are apart.... Unemployment benefits is paid into by employers and workers. Welfare is not.

Kind of... States pay unemployment benefits, since we been in a recession the federal government issued an emergency unemployment benefit to augment the states, basically doubling the weeks. This is a short term measure to help through the recession. Nothing more nothing less....

As far as Im aware the state a person lives in pays so much unemployment and then it is made up more by the National government.
]

Not really except for this short term measure.

If unemployment is stopped then the state a person lives in will need to step in to stop people becoming destitute, welfare may need to be cut to support unemployed, their may be civil unrest because why should people get handouts who have never worked yet people who have worked get nothing.

Nope, totally different programs... Not related in the lease so one would not be reduced to help the other. You do not understand what Republic is.

Food stamps cut unemployment cut.

Nope, programs are not related at all. Two totally different pots of money.

You may see a difference between unemployed and welfare all I see it another way of dividing people the poor against the poor, if your government cant give its poorest enough to live on then they have no business taxing the rest of the population and giving it to banks and spending on starting wars in other countries, how many of you voted for you government to spen x amount of billions in wars.

All I can say to this is America will be far from the first to fall. Any thing bad in America is much worst in other countries, so when we see a domino effect around the world America will be the last domino.
