A region defined by cities of Youssifiyah to the northwest, Latifiyah to the south and Mahmoudiya to the east has earned the moniker "triangle of death.". The name is related to the number of death that have occurred at the hands of Sunni Muslim insurgents. Bounties are reportedly being offered to those who do the killing: $1,000 for a Shiite, $2,000 for a member of the Iraqi National Guard and $3,000 for an American.

story.news.yahoo.com BAGHDAD, Iraq - A portly Shiite cleric, Abu Qusai sheds his black robe for a training suit and exchanges his white turban for a baseball cap, an effort to mask his identity for a risky trip through what has become known as the "triangle of death."

The region has become a death zone for many Shiite Muslims, Westerners and members of the Iraqi security services, many of whom have become the victims of Sunni Muslim insurgents and gunmen some who receive bounties of several thousand dollars.

The triangle, formed by the cities of Youssifiyah to the northwest, Latifiyah to the south and Mahmoudiya to the east, holds the fastest routes from Baghdad southward to the Shiite shrines in Najaf and Karbala.

The area is no less dangerous for foreigners than the better known insurgent strongholds west of the capital, including Fallujah and Ramadi.

French journalists Christian Chesnot and Georges Malbrunot disappeared Aug. 20 on their way from Baghdad to Najaf. They remain missing, though their Syrian driver, Mohammed al-Joundi, was found by U.S. troops last week in Fallujah.

This report nightlights both the instability in Iraq and the clear need to root out the insurgents who are causing all this death and destruction. Much of the blame or blood in most cases can be placed on the hands of the Wahabbi sect of Sunni Islam. It also is the official religion of Saudi Arabia. The insurgent just recently killed Hassan who had done nothing but help the Iraqi people. They will stop at nothing and need to be stopped.

Sunnis are mostly the ones causing all the trouble in Iraq. The Kurdish section to the north and the Shiite section to the south are relatively almost without any violence.
The sunni section of Iraq, also known as the "Sunni Arab triangle," is where you'll find most of the violence. The instability comes mainly from this sector.

Don't you find it funny, though, that the vast majority of all 'terrorists' and i use these quotes quite loudly, are either Wahabbai or Shia?

Is this in addition to the $500 that was reported the other day (looking for that thread) or is this a separate 'bounty'?

Loki: excellent observation there.

There has been a bit of violence there, but it pales in comparison to the Sunni Triangle. One has to wonder if we simply turned the triangle into the worlds biggest parking lot, we would be free of alot of the insurgency. However, alot of the people in the triangle do not support the insurgency. We will have to root them out house by house

Now you're talking. And right in the middle of it erect the Mall of the MIddle East, something like the Mall of America in Minneapolis, a Walmart, McDonalds, a Great America (oops, I mean a Great Arabian) theme park with lots of high tech rides. And don't forget to install lots of camel parking spaces. While you're at it, maybe giving the Sunnis and Wahabis a few gambling casino franchises will quell their violence, sort of like the Indian casinos that have sprung up all across the US. Why, before you know it, all those angry Muslims won't have time to fight with all of the dinner shows, one-armed bandits, black jack, and Texas hold 'em they'll be so busy with.

FredT says: We will have to root them out house by house.

Great idea FredT. That ought to generate lots of good will toward the U.S.! There's nothing like invading people's homes, rifling through their possessions, turning their furnishings upside down, destroying some stuff, and killing a few just for good measure, to make em love ya'! Didn't our founding fathers make a big stink over the British habit of doing that to the colonists? We're gettin' to be just like the British Crown used to be. That can't portend anything good.
