ATTENTION: malicious website - www.java-updating-now.com (malware)

dear huntresses and hunters,

just a few moments ago i visited ats, when this malicious website popped up shortly after ats had loaded half-way:

www.java-updating-now.com

this website will prompt you to update your java software, but its a malicious scam, so all of you be warned and spread the word. just close your browser and dont click anything in there, its fake! the site seems to be pretty new, too.

ats-staff you should also check if some of your ad's are prompting to load this website on the unsuspecting user.

See this post. This issue is not coming from ATS.

The last 4 days my virus software is stating ATS is the source of a Trojan. As well as something called a Trojan SNAKE. slowed me down to a halt flooding me with a memory jam.

I did a screen capture showing the warning with ATS in the background.

I stayed away from here for a couple of days thinking ATS was aware and was working on the problem.. as soon as I can figure out how to upload screen captures. I will post it.



So far today no issues. Last issue was Dec. 11th

Im on a brand new lappy, 2 weeks old.
3 days ago it started acting up, very slow, sometimes when I turn on it just goes to a black screen instead of windows and I have to take out the batt to reboot, as well as a few other abnormal bits and pieces.

I just assumed it was all the porn I downloaded

But seriously this lappy is now laggy and ATS is the site Ive been using the most. How do I check for and then fix any issues?

I'm using Windows 8 (64-bit) and FireFox 25.0.1 ( typical settings ) ... I'm NOT experiencing any issues.

HOWEVER

Yesterday, using Internet Explorer 10.0.9200.16736 ( good grief look at that version! ) ( cookies off ) ... WAS acting strangely on various websites. I had to close it completely down then reopen. However the problem repeated. Today, I don't see it happening.

SUMMARY: It may be an Internet Explorer issue and not any website issue ... ( another NSA SPY! implated product? LOL!!!, I don't know ).

WARNING: Before installing any ANTI-VIRUS ... Please get a GOOD CONSENSUS from others 1st !!!

I'm using Norton 360 ... ( another NSA SPY! implanted product? LOL!!!, I don't know ).

Please stop doing that to your poor poor computer. It's like child abuse.

Uninstall that resource heavy thing and just install Microsoft Security Essentials. I know, I know, it's directly from them so it must be bad, but trust me it isn't.

It's the MOST effective, least resource using antivirus out there. It also updates with Windows Update which is nice.

2nd, if you worry about malware or anything of that nature, simply go to [url=www.ninite.com[/url] and install Super Anti Spyware.

The combination of these two programs will make your life much easier, and your computer all the happier.

It's a kind of virus, its a hijack is what it's called (highjacker), it's not dependant on browser (it can happen in firefox, chrome or ie), apparently malwarebytes will remove it.

for anyone who feels or knows hes infected:

housecall.trendmicro.com... - take this for a quick and effective 1. time scan, be sure to select "full system scan"

and for hardcore disinfection you should get this:

professional.avira-update.com... - avira rescue system

it will create a bootable cd image for you.

and if you feel like you need more scanners and backup solutions etc, take this:

I'm soon to cancel my Office 2013 subscription and replace it with ... LibreOffice.org ( version 4.1 ). I have a couple of more weeks til this month's subscription runs out.

I know there will be some functional limitations ... but that's the way it will have to be.

I've lost my trust and I've been Microsoft since 1981. The next computer will be Linux; and I'm an OLD DOG who has to learn NEW TRICKS ... ( i.e. it won't be easy ).

On a Side-Note:

On another computer ( an XP ), I have the Office 2003 Professional Version installed that is not connected to any network that I DO TRUST.

PLUS

TrendMicro is as WELL KNOWN as the Norton name.

Better make sure it runs out, because using it is such a chore. You can't have libre and microsoft installed on the same machine or bad things happen, like your cd will open and dart out at you when you least expect it. oO

1981 was a few years ago. You've been struggling along for such a long time, I mean, still on a dos box by the sounds of it, given it's been since 1981. Linux has changed a lot since 1981 too. I'd be worried if I were you, they have desktops and stuff now, that run on top of the terminal. Insane stuff.

You'll get there tho, just avoid all that microsoft stuff!!!!

So what? Trend micro is a reasonable av, and housecall is a very good way to scan your pc without having to install a full suite.

Your XP machine should be ok for everything tho. Just keep it offline, make sure you have your windows cd handy. You might want to install mcafee on it tho, he's trustworthy.

I've FIRE'd (removed) MS-Office-2013 ... AND ... installed LibreOffice 4.1.

HOWEVER

I found that some of the functionality in LibreOffice is dependent upon ORACLE's Java Runtime Environment (JRE)

JRE is a suspected HACK'er Tool ... ( could JRE be another NSA implant? ).

It does appear like JRE can be disabled in LibreOffice's Tools/Options/Advanced dialog.

The Database (Base) feature gave numerous warnings without JRE installed and/or disabled.

The GOOD NEWS is that the Word/Text Document and Spreadsheet seem to work well without it.

SO ... Good Enough for now ( and I don't want someone going out and installing anything BLINDLY ).

I've been using OpenOffice on my windows machines for a long time now, and Libre Office on my Linux laptop as well.

They're perfectly good and free programs (I use them for writing and publishing my books).

As far as you learning to use Linux, I would recommend Linux Mint as a starting point. It's reliable, and comes with a plethora of pre-installed software that makes the switch far easier on the uninitiated.

Good luck in your new adventure! If you're not a hardcore gamer, it'll be more than worth it.

Yep, definitely dump Norton. That is terrible software.

i have windows 8 (8.1 technically :barf and rely on the inbuilt Anti-virus BUT lately I get a redirect, from a pop up advertisement, to another site that I have no control over, but the site changes and is not always the same address.

I wonder if this may be the cause.

My two cents...with 25+ years experience in computers and programming, and its all free.

1. Install Avast 2014. (avast.com) Then scan your entire computer.

2. Instal Malwarebytes. (malwarebytes.org) Then scan your entire computer immediately then once a week.

3. Use Google Chrome with the AdBlock extension installed. (google.com & extension store) Use Chrome as your browser.

4. If you want something for free...MP3, software, porn, etc. (besides what is listed above)...expect viruses and malware to try to get you.

5. If you get ANY email with a link. Don't click on it unless you KNOW 100% FOR SURE that it is safe.

6. If you didn't enter a contest...you couldn't have won a contest.

7. NEVER log into any site (PayPal, etc.) from an email. Browse to the site yourself and login.

Those are my best suggestions and yes...many viruses and malware come from advertising which most websites use. The sites don't know that those ads contain malware. It isn't directly their fault.

I just took a look at the MalwareBytes.org site ... Thank You.

Without 1st hand experience using MalwareBytes.org product, I will say that it appears to me as a good alternate choice. I'm currently protecting 3 computers with Norton; the price for 3 MailwareBytes.org installations will be very near the same at 80 bucks.

From what I'm reading, it's the Big-Names that are likely to have the NSA sleeping in their bed. I'm starting to suspect Big-Name Anti-Virus too. ( Norton, TrendMicro, etc. ).

I strongly get the sense that other NSA bed-partners are Facebook, Microsoft and Google. From what I can tell, Google seems to literally be chasing the NSA. ( microphones, robots, android, search, whatever imaginable ).

For "searches" give StartPage.com a try.

Utimately though, a "Trusted" Linux based Operating System should be considered ... The "Goal-Post".

Folks, these are ... Just My Opinion(s). But I'm PI55ED at all the Inward-Spying; I think it's moneies down the drain and without any profitable return for any country doing it to their citizens. THIS is my way of promoting the FUTILITY of it all.

I also think, IF they wanted to catch terrorists ... try collecting all the communications going in and out of Washington D.C.

It is NOT China ... It appears to be a Physical-Site in ... Walnut, California and an ISP named "Psychz Networks".

The following is a DNS Lookup for "java-updating-now.com" ... ( i.e. you're not going to that java website ).

Looks like that site is new Dec 10, 2013 and owned by someone in Panama !?!?!

I think that IT should be reported ... START with your Internet-Provider ( and follow their recommendations ).

i can confirm this too. i catched alot of nasty stuff on ATS a few days ago- not sure if i was caught in the java thing. i had my avast going crazy - some infoget site wanted to pop up- i cleaned everything with superantispyware- hopefully its all clean
