Harry Reid pressures DHS on behalf of son’s casino project

Never let it be said that Senate Majority Leader Sen. Harry Reid won't take on big government to help local businessmen. Oh wait, this was for his son's casino project and a group of suspicious investors. Must be OK then. I swear the US must have the most corrupt and self interested government players in the world.

Harry Reid personally pressured DHS on behalf of son’s casino project

Senate Majority Leader Sen. Harry Reid took an intense interest in pushing through visas for dozens of shady Asian investors for a Las Vegas casino represented by his son, Rory Reid, documents and reports show.

The investors, who were flagged for “suspicious financial activity,” had initially been denied visas by the Department of Homeland Security in a process that usually does not allow for appeals.

In a Dec. 5, 2012 email to officials at the Department of Homeland Security obtained by The Washington Times, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Legislative Affairs official Miguel Rodriguez wrote, “This one is going to be a major headache for us all because Sen. Reid’s office/staff is pushing hard and I just had a long yelling match on the phone.”

The investors were interested in renovating the SLS Hotel — which was once the Sahara. SLS is represented by Sen. Reid’s son, Rory Reid, who works at the law firm Lionel, Sawyer & Collins.

Let that be a lesson to DHS, nobody messes with Dirty Harry (Reid.) And as long as the money flows he gets to stick around.

Sen. Reid “has supported and will support the SLS Las Vegas in any way he can,” a spokeswoman for the senator told the Times.

When questioned on Sen. Reid’s intervention on behalf of SLS investors, Sen. Reid spokeswoman Kristen Orthman told Ralston Reports that “The SLS project creates nearly 9,000 badly needed jobs and has the support of Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval.”

Of course it will and of course it does.

What a GROSS misuse of power. Our government just doesn't care anymore, they just let their corruption hang out in the open for the world to see. Might as well, it's not like the public has the memory capacity to remember this come election time.

If you really think about it,
The people who get reelected the most seem to be the most corrupt.
I'd say the public knows full well that they are voting in the most corrupt politicians because they think their candidate will screw over the other guy.

I used to blame the politicians. Now I blame the voters.

Scary Harry is corrupt and crooked as a pretzel...just not *QUITE* criminally to bust and prosecute his sorry butt. Isn't that the way though? They don't break the law because the wrote the law..Literally in his case...and know exactly where the curb line is to bump but not cross over.

Of course, to criminals like that man, what he calls a bump..WE call outright crime...but see, that's where we're just ignorant little voters who can't understand the ways of corruption at the level he practices it.

Will Nevada flush their toilet next time he's up for reelection or does Harry Reid get to serve as an Emperor until death, like Thurmond, Kennedy and others?

Must be nice to be American Royalty... THAT man sure knows what that term means.

As long as the money flows corrupt politicians like Reid will never be stopped. Even when they are the next just seems to be bought off by the same special interests. Somehow that needs to be stopped but short a complete reset I don't see it ever happening.

OT - Maybe we need to have a corruption forum on ATS. Something designed to concentrate just these topics and stories. Preferable designed with some type of Google / crawler attractor (is that possible) to push these stories out to the average searcher.

He has been in office 25 years so the people of his state must have faith and like what he does for them.

I hate to say it, but it's true from what I saw in local papers across Nevada over the years and what we see on the national level. It's not that people in Nevada LIKE that loser, and he IS a loser as I've seen local papers put it themselves....It's that the GOP can't seem to run someone acceptable if their life depends on it.

I swear, they could run Donald Duck against Scary Harry and probably win at this stage ...but that would be intelligent and not corrupt enough for Party politics. They have to get people like DD's rich old uncle everyone hates to run.

I think Harry owes his place in office more to the worthless nature of his competitors than anything in his OWN value...and such is politics today, right? Being good isn't important. Just make the other guy at least 1 level worse ..and it's a win.

Sadly, that is US politics. And worse often is very much up in the air.
