Tale to Tell (poem)

I have a little tale to tell,
A story I hold dear.
I've never told it very well,
But will try to do so here.

It was many years ago,
The night of Christmas Eve.
I was driving on icy snow,
And my car started to weave.

Off the bridge, down the bank,
To the frozen depths below.
Into the river the car sank,
And the water started to flow.

This was it, I'm truly done,
I knew my time was near.
Someone help, please, someone!
I knew no one could hear.

I sat there watching the water rise,
Felt the cold slip over my skin.
Tears were flowing from my eyes,
As it made it past my chin.

I looked up and saw the man,
Brake the glass with a bar.
He reached inside, took my hand,
And pulled me out of the car.

Not much stuck with me about that night,
But I do remember two things.
When he left he walked through the light,
And I could swear that he had wings,

The police said someone called in my plight,
Told them where I would be.
My car had crashed well out of sight,
No one would have ever found me.

Who was the man that saved me,
That is something I'll never know
On that fateful Christmas eve,
In all that ice and snow

Every Christmas I thank the man,
who saved my life that night.
I give help to all I can,
And try to live life right.

Yes. I am trying my hand at poetry as it is very challenging for me

I think that you were able to tell an entire story of events with emotions involved in so few words. I am not sure what or how you did it but you managed to create that poem with power and emotions that were just awesome. Well done sir/ma'am? lol

That's why it's so challenging for me. I have a hard time using so little words to say things. I have one more I can post, I really only started doing poems about two weeks ago. Thanks for letting me know you liked it. I truly appreciate it.

I would agree with the other person saying this poem captured the right amount of emotion in such simple words. It's very good blend. You do have a knack for poetry. I feel poetry dwells within us all and you just have to tap into it..

There's no pressure here... you contribute when and where you find the path.

Words are like gems and when sorted to things like yours here, carry value.

That's wild blend that you experienced something like that... Well wild and truly amazing... Imo..some of us have an angel that watches over us. I've cheated death three times due to my angel 'Elias'... I know I'm not nuts either. I hold my beliefs and my experiences to be true in my heart.
