The only thing becoming clear here, is that you don't know what you are talking about.

I have no idea man... that is something you'll have to discuss with the members of fundamental atheism.

I accept that everyone is an individual and I only refer to a group as a whole consisting of individuals but... dealing with someone on an individual basis is a different ballgame than speaking of the whole which they represent.

You're cool with me man... represent the individual, not the whole.

eg; the topic title "Christian Fundamentalist" they do not represent the whole, Christians are an extremely diverse group.

the majority of followers of this belief I have come into contact with have opposite values about the well being of the many, but instead focus on only the few.

Then you haven't come into contact with many of them. So, basing your assumption on the few you have met is impertinent.

do you also speak for the whole? or for the individuals...

I've come into contact with enough individuals to know where I base my opinions... I grew up with them daily and am surrounded by individuals representing the whole... still.

I could have swore I read that you did not want to speak with me?

It is beyond the philosophy of the atheistic mind to comprehend such subjects as a universal truth.

I think you are confusing "atheism" with "objectivism."

It is beyond the philosophy of the atheistic mind to comprehend such subjects as a universal truth.

What???
Another load.

You are lumping atheists in with other groups, such as Communism, and Objectivism....that have NOTHING TO DO WITH BELIEF IN GOD. They are SOCIAL structure models...models of governance (or lack thereof) - they are NOT theologically based.

here is a primer on Objectivism (originated by Ayn Rand, the consummate "me-me-me" thinker, and idol of the GOP Conservatives):
Objectivism (Ayn Rand)

Objectivism holds that because the opportunity to use reason without the initiation of force is necessary to achieve moral values, each individual has an inalienable moral right to act as his own judgment directs and to keep the product of his effort.

Peikoff, explaining the basis of rights, stated, "In content, as the founding fathers recognized, there is one fundamental right, which has several major derivatives. The fundamental right is the right to life. Its major derivatives are the right to liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness."[74]

"A 'right' is a moral principle defining and sanctioning a man's freedom of action in a social context."[75] These rights are specifically understood to be rights to action, not to specific results or objects, and the obligations created by rights are negative in nature: each individual must refrain from violating the rights of others.[76] Objectivists reject alternative notions of rights, such as positive rights,[77] collective rights, or animal rights.[78]

Objectivism holds that the only social system which fully recognizes individual rights is capitalism,[79] specifically what Rand described as "full, pure, uncontrolled, unregulated laissez-faire capitalism."[80] Objectivism regards capitalism as the social system which is most beneficial to the poor, but that this isn't its primary justification.[81] Rather, it is the only moral social system. Objectivism maintains that only societies seeking to establish freedom (or free nations) have a right to self-determination.[82]

She was an atheist. The OPPOSITE of a communist, she was all for the corporate oligarchy that we have today. So - you are wrong.

I'm speaking at you, and to the audience, for the benefit of the readers here; because your ignorance is cluttering up my thread.

If you want to have a dialogue with me, then be civil, and lose the inflammatory allegations against atheists.

Do you have questions about Christian Evangelical Fundamentalist homeschooling?
That's what this thread is about. Leave your political/religious trolling at the door.

we speak together here... there are rules and we must stop accusing others directly of ignorance.

it is that which we deny.

Then do you acknowledge that you are muddying the waters by claiming that atheists are communists?
And that objectivism is ultra-selfish-capitalism? And let me ask you, fellow member, WHO are the ultra-selfish-capitalists? Um...yeah, that would be the GOP - the right wing, made up PREDOMINANTLY of self-labelled Christians, even though it is an ATHEISTIC ideal, and has nothing at all to do with Jesus or what he taught. "He who does not work shall not eat." Is that what Jesus taught?

Ignorance is only a bad word when someone takes it that way - it means that you are IGNORING facts that are readily available. Just like the GOP Religious Right are embracing Ayn Rand's philosophy of self-interest only, the OPPOSITE of what Jesus said, and the OPPOSITE of what the new Pope is saying.

So which is it? Are you an Ayn Rand follower, or a Jesus follower? Can't be both without being a hypocrite.

I'm inclined the question the continuing education of parents who homeschool their children.

I have a B.S. in psychology and was very capable of home schooling our daughter until 5th grade. Not a problem. Anyone with even a standard high school education could homeschool until 5th grade. It's not like parents just pick willy nilly something to teach that day. Parents sign up with homeschool groups and receive a day by day curriculum to follow (that they can tweak to meet their needs). And there are quarterly standard tests and end of year standard tests .... etc etc

Here is the homeschool curriculum that we used for grades K-4. There are MANY out there to pick from. And the base schools have teachers standing by to provide support when required. The curriculum is standardized by the school and set.

Teachers are required to regularly refresh and update their curriculums to ensure the inclusion of the latest knowledge and tools necessary to properly equip their pupils for the world. ?

And yet, when our daughter went off to school with the rest of the kids in 5th grade, she was subjected to some pretty silly stuff. Silly stuff including teachers pushing their political agendas and schools with invasive 'home questionnaires' .... oh the stories I could tell.

Because you were well educated, and had an understanding of psychology, you had every necessary tool to teach your child at home. There is NOTHING wrong with that.
Good for you!!!

I started "homeschooling" my kids when they were babies. They could both read by the time they got into kindergarten. They were taught nothing at all about "religion" until they were both school-aged. And then we talked about all of the different religions.

All the other homeschool parents I knew had at least a standard high school education. Most had B.S. degrees. A few had Masters. (like my husband has two masters). I knew of no parents who had less than a high school education who homeschooled.

It costs a family $$$ for a parent to stay home and teach their children. People with just a high school education (or less) generally can't afford to have one parent quit their job and stay home. At that education level, usually both parents have to work to support the family. So if there are folks out there worried that uneducated poor hicks are sitting home with their kids just watching TV and playing games or something .... that's not what normally happens.

As for the religious aspect .... I stand by the statement that parents have a right to teach their children their religion of choice. It's unfortunate that children are indoctrinated into 'hate cults' that masquerade as acceptable main stream faith groups, but the alternative is for the government to be invasive with everyone and stick it's nose where it doesn't belong - into the private affairs of citizens.

There is some physical child abuse that will happen. No question. But child abuse also happens in the public schools more than people will admit to. There is mental abuse that will happen. No question. (and I include indoctrination into hate cults in with the mental abuse). But that would happen if the children went to public school or stayed home. Either way, the parents have the children for the majority of the time.

Oh ... and just about every homeschool child I know was well socialized. I know people yell that homeschoolers are locked away in a bomb shelter or closet or something, but that wasn't the case with 99% of the homeschoolers I knew. Example - my daughter went to the YMCA with other kids for art lessons twice a week and went to swim team at the YMCA six days a week. She also had the neighborhood kids that she played with. She tried different sports like archery and gymnastics and ice skating ... all with other kids. Socialization wasn't a problem.

Anyways .... just my observations from being a homeschool mom for pre-k until 5th grade.

Excellent! Anyone who leaves the education of the child fully to the state will be in for a nasty surprise. Parents HAVE to get involved .. and get involved early ... with the ABCs and 123s at home.

Thankfully, these poor Generation Joshua kids are coming of age and DITCHING their religions.

With the age of technology, it's harder for the hate-filled religious slave master parents to keep control over the children. The children get to a certain age and go out on their own ... and POOF ... reality comes a knock'n. Unfortunately, they'll most likely have to deal with LOADS of guilt that had been instilled in them for years and years. (as you know, cults LOVE to use guilt). But with the internet and reality and truth all at their fingertips, it's just a matter of time before they are freed from their slave-bonds.

Excellent post...

although it does seem there are plenty of "parental controls" on modern computers to limit the sites kids are allowed to visit....
which amounts to censorship, of course.

And there's nothing wrong with THAT, either, as long as it's limited to porn sites, etc....

Kids should have free access to knowledge. Just like adults do.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I mean that, once they get out of the house and experience reality ...
then they'll have access to free information. It'll be either a real shock, or a real relief.
Perhaps even both.
