State Atheism

[The persecution of Christians in the Soviet Union was the result of the violently atheist Soviet government. In the first five years after the October Revolution, 28 bishops and 1,200 priests were murdered, many on the orders of Leon Trotsky. When Joseph Stalin came to power in 1927, he ordered his secret police, under Genrikh Yagoda to intensify persecution of Christians. In the next few years, 50,000 clergy were murdered, many were tortured, including crucifixion. "Russia turned red with the blood of martyrs", said Father Gleb Yakunin of the Russian Orthodox Church.[4] According to Orthodox Church sources, as many as fifty million Orthodox believers may have died in the twentieth century, mainly from persecution by Communists.[5]

In addition, in the atheistic and communist Soviet Union, 44 anti religious museums were opened and the largest was the 'The Museum of the History of Religion and Atheism' in Leningrad’s Kazan cathedral.]

I wonder if a handful of scientists who proclaim their atheism have made up for all the lives we have lost yet?

So your cool with Buddhists and Hindus, despite them not believing in your god.

yes... I respect others freedom of religion.

But Buddhists could be considered athiests, because they don't worship a god. So I think what your trying to say in this thread is you dislike communists not non believers. Non believers can be spiritual too you see.

Its simple: dont dish out what you can't swallow. You've stepped on too many toes to whine about karma, dude. Well, not you, but all the people you're crying about. Its all fun and games til your medicine ends up in your own cup.

Telling theists that their God does not exist, is, indeed, an attempt to shove one's BELIEF down someone's throat. That is active anti-theism. You have done that often.

I believe Sisyphus came to this forum with the accusation that atheists and communists are synonymous, or at least very closely related. Do you expect me to not defend my position? Do you expect me to not defend others who hold the same specific theistic disposition as I do?

I made a thread describing the process by which a Catholic converted to atheism. The emotional toll has, of course, left him uncertain and hesitant about the direction he wants to take, but that's none of your business. The point is that I was attempting to provide an inside look at the phenomenon of Catholics falling out with their church. My apologies if you found it distasteful, but that's your problem, not mine. Quite honestly, I did what I meant to and I'm done with it.

I have a problem with people believing in a god which defies probability and which promotes ideals we have eschewed in lesser personas, but my problem become vocal when those beliefs infect our younger generations and molds the values they seek in the future of our species. You emulate that which you admire. If you admire Hitler, you will become a Nazi. And all it takes for evil to win is for good men to do nothing. This is me doing the something I can afford for the time being.

Now that I have explained a fraction of my methodology and a little more of my motives to you, I don't expect you to understand or approve. And I really don't care if you do. But I do expect you to address me with the respect required of all interactions on ATS, and if you cannot do that, then don't address me at all. I'm not perfect. I don't expect you to be. But let's not resort to abhorrently childish tactics for want of absolute perfection.

yes that's right, I dislike atheism... Buddhist are theist, there's little doubt.

I dislike atheists because their philosophy is communism, unbeknownst to them or not. When you have a group of atheists all thinking the same and rise to positions of governance, they transform into murderers.

Your god must be an atheist then.

All semi-sincere jokes aside, this looks to be nothing short of a smear campaign on your part. You have a personal problem with atheists, so you're LOOKING for a legitimate problem to have with them in order to validate your vendetta in the eyes of more professional observers.

But in order to do this successfully, you need less transparent tactics. ...On second thought, stick with this. I'd rather smell BS in the wild than swallow it in the stew. There's enough of it going around without falling prey to this circus act.

Should we commence discussing the Westboro Baptist church and how it effectively portrays the values of the average Christian in America? I'm sure we could have an interesting conversation about generalization with such an example taking a prominent position in the discussion. Not to mention all of the argumentative fallacies you are currently employing as you do your damnedest to make atheism look bad. Please refer to my previous post.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Here's a thread on argumentative fallacies. Perhaps you should review its contents before digging yourself a deeper hole than you're already squatting in. Just trying to be helpful here, despite the ungrounded insults you're piling around myself and my fellow atheists. Of course, it's completely understandable that you would lash out now that Christianity's relevance is beginning to wane. A lot of Christians are realizing that their infallible path is slowly losing the spotlight and the privileges that come with it, and they're panicking. Those who love power are loathe to let it go.

"The Catholic Church has rejected the totalitarian and atheistic ideologies associated in modern times with 'communism' or 'socialism.'"

Associated by whom? And by its demonstrations, the Catholic church is more concerned with capitalism, aka the 1%, than sacrificing its wealth for the betterment of its followers. How many Catholics are there in office today? Where did they get that money from? What did they do with it? And how about the Vatican? How much in assets do they have? What are they doing with it?

Don't talk to me about the fiscal generosity of the Catholic church. They'd rather watch the Africans catch AIDS and spread it than spend a few thousand on condoms for the safety of the country. And that's not even mentioning the Bishop of Bling, otherwise known as the "bishop who was irresponsible with Vatican resources", who was recently let go after years of being coddled and humored by the church until our current progressive Pope kicked him to the curb. Or the vast mansion the previous pope now resides in, which could easily be sold for enough money to support him comfortably for the next 20 years in a nice small house with a surplus from the revenue and all future checks to go to whatever organizations and charities need it.

But is that happening? No. No, it isn't. I should also mention that the section which you linked in your post has been flagged as uncited and unreferenced, which is a big no-no where professionalism is concerned. So keep trolling, and I'll keep rolling.

the sources are linked... just click on the little number in the section about it on the wiki, that comment starts at [17]

good luck changing it...

I am sorry that particular comment is in the Catholic section... which is just under the section where Buddhism has its own Anti-Atheist Communistic moral code.

in that particular wiki article anti-atheism is quite a global affair... it's a good thing we have psychologist who have made the connection in the developing human mind.

Well, anyway, at this point in time, I'm clearly the only person who can be said to be taking you seriously. I just hate to see ignorance proliferating in spite of our best efforts and intentions. But whatever. I've injected enough rationality into your thread to muck up your flailing attempts to demonize an organization which hasn't been around nearly long enough to rival the historical brutality of theism and its adherents, so I guess I can sleep better knowing I did my part. Your smear campaign is dead in its tracks. Good luck picking up steam.

looks like anti-atheism is taking root again in alot of places globally... it doesn't have nothing to do with not believing in God, it has to do with ones proclamation of not believing in God.

because those are communists... as we've learned... and nobody wants them in positions of power do we now?

The same states that allow you to marry your cousin and think the Earth is six thousand years old. Why am I not surprised they oppose rational thought?

And I dare you to walk up to an atheist and call them a communist to their face instead of spraying it all over an internet forum like a pansy. You must have balls to vent your insecurities this way.

I guess atheists would just kill them all? I don't know... that's a subject for politics, which I'm not into.

"State atheism is the official promotion of atheism by a government, sometimes combined with active suppression of religious freedom and practice.

Utter bullcrap.

What scares me is the Christian Reconstructionists Seven-Mountain-Dominionists...

they are truly evil, deluded, and ignorant; and if THEY get in to powerful positions (any more than they already are: Palin, Bachmann, Perry, Santorum, Gingrich, and a host of others) we are ALL going to be LIVING IN HELL. Now, here.

You don't have the slightest idea what atheists' "philosophy" is;
"unbeknownst to them or not"???????

Whatever.

Your ignorance is showing, and it truly makes you look stupid.

Some day, karma will bite you like it bit those theists. But it won't be because of us atheists. It'll be because you picked the wrong fight. You're going to throw a brick in the air and forget to move when it comes back down.

You're a petty person, and that's why you have all of two people responding to you on this thread. But that's over. I'm gone. I have no desire to acknowledge your existence further. You are a buzzing fly, and I will leave it to smaller men to silence your incessant whining.

"[North Korea is a repressive communist state and is officially atheistic.[15] The North Korean government practices brutal repression and atrocities against North Korean Christians.[16][17]

It has been estimated that in less than the past 100 years, governments under the banner of communism have caused the death of somewhere between 40,472,000 and 259,432,000 human lives.[18] Dr. R. J. Rummel, professor emeritus of political science at the University of Hawaii, is the scholar who first coined the term democide (death by government). Dr. R. J. Rummel's mid estimate regarding the loss of life due to communism is that communism caused the death of approximately 110,286,000 people between 1917 and 1987.[19] Richard Dawkins has attempted to engage in historical revisionism concerning atheist atrocities, but was shown to be in gross error.]"
