Hello, this is my first post on ATS but ive been reading the forum for a few years, though i had to post this.

I watched a video sometime ago, of Jay Leno trying to set a record at the Talladega Superspeedway on a Carrera GT. But the car spinned out and he lost control almost cost his life.

Before judging that specific car you should watch the video of that insident and read the comments of Jay Leno of how the car handle,

Link and source of the Video:
Jay Leno Starts at 0:50
www.hollywoodreporter.com...

Quote from Jay Leno:
"I just got a little sideways and then it started spinning. I hit the brakes and saw the wall coming and then got off the brakes, and then when there wasn't any wall I got on the brakes again, and then when I saw more wall I got off the brakes," say Leno. "It was kind of like driving on ice."
edit on 6-12-2013 by Kensei because: .

A few things to consider. Leno isn't a pro driver. Leno was probably traveling close to 200mph. Leno was able to control the car after it spun. Now for Rodas, the driver of the car. He was a pro driver. There's no way he was reaching anywhere near 200mph. There would be rubber left on the road as evidence the car went into a tailspin.

Something else happened. I'm sure we'll never know the facts but only be offered an explanation of what could have happened.

you are confusing strong for its weight with indestructable
crash into stuff at 90+ mph and carbon fiber is NOT going to save you or not break/shatter.
these cars are made to go real fast and be as light as possible..not safe as possible
there is no conspiracy here..dude lost control of a car that can be a handfull at 300hp..the simplest explanation is often the correct one

edit on 6-12-2013 by vonclod because: (no reason given)

no. i mean strong.
also, i said 45mph
why are people so focused on hp?
that has nothing to do with any of this.

you said 45..what does that have to do with anything? the car was going approx 90..those cars have serious braking and to see skid marks going into the crash are make no mistakeTHEY WERE NOT GOING 45, why do you keep talking about 45?.
you seemed dismayed that a car with carbon fibre might break when crashed? so i explained it for you
i mention the hp as to explain why the car is easy to crash..has everything to do with why the crash might of occured

Supercars using carbon fiber monocoque are designed to separate the cockpit from the engine. That's why you see them split in 1/2 like they do. I highly doubt there were any issues with the car. If the carbon ceramic brakes were not up to temperature, this could be a good explanation for lack of skid marks. Those rotors need to be extremely hot to work 100%. It's a sad tragedy.

The problem with the car is that even professional race car drivers are scared of them.

They were doing almost 90 when they lost control, and hit the first sign. They hit the speed limit sign, then a light pole that came down, then the tree.

and you KNOW this because......??

not even the investigators are stating that !!! Initial reports state that "there are no skid marks to indicate speed"

seriously !!!!

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK brother !

My thoughts exactly .. !!! there's NO indication of skid marks due to severe speeding !!

armchair racing professionals (myself included, and raced multiple racing sim games, which GT4 is at the top of my list still and logged hundreds of hours on it, and have a beginners idea and watch Top Gear, all episodes and understand the concepts and mechanics behind such cars..) SHOULD know this just looking at the damm pics..

what part of "designed for speed at high turns" doesn't the newbs understand ! NOT even to mention the car driven by racing pros.....'double serious face palm"

physics is a bitch to those who don't want to believe the truth !

The investigators have stated that they haven't been able to determine the exact speed yet, because of it being an exotic car, but that it was safe to say that they were doing "twice the posted limit" at the time of the crash.

HA HA HA .. seriously ..

errr.. twice the speed limit.. errrr...90mph ..
.........................90MPH.....let me restate that......just for the class....

90MPH...........................yea.. so .. a super car....going 90MPH which is going like 35mph, trust me .. I know this because driving in a Ford Cobra in 2nd gear doing 60mph ...because I thought I was doing 35mph blew me out of the water..

so going 90MPH is NOTHING for a supercar .. since they base speed and braking ability from 0-100mph & especially for a car designed for HIGH speed .. 120mph+

Conspiracy ! IDK but I would like to say I was no fan of Mr. Walkers.
But I did enjoy a lot of the movies he was in. I'm saddened by his death.
And send a prayer to Heaven for his soul. No one deserves to die like this.

Father, I pray you, give this man peace, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen

The Carrera GT is made of lightweight materials (the body is made of carbon fiber). That means a high speed impact is going to tear it to pieces.

What would you say happened to this GT?

the driver survived !!!

think about it .. !!!

as i posted in the other thread about his death, the damage does not seem right.
i wont shouldnt on if or why they were driving a car with issues. dont matter to me but still. maybe they were driving a car with issues. walker is a gear head. maybe he was trying to diagnose it.

About a week before my high school senior prom I fell asleep driving my car (1990ish Chrysler Lebaron), jumped a curb, hit a stop sign which woke me up right as I was about to hit a tree. I was going roughly 25-30 miles an hour.

How much damage would seem right to you for that scenario?

i dont know. 'hitting' a stop sign could mean a lot.
where on the car did it hot for one? i dont think that mattters either way.
as for your list.
a couple of the points have nothing to do with how it is possible the damage could be what it is.
what does price have to do with it? and horsepower?
horsepower dont matter. 45mph is the same in all cars, no matter the horsepower.

all you guys can argue against me and throw up all the links you want. its not gonna change my mind.
its my opinion. ive worked on cars all my life. had body shops attached to the repair shop i was in. seen accidents. seen the results. been in one.
in my opinion the car would not have that kind of damage if it happened how they said. bottom line for me

HP matters and so does the ability to accelerate and of course (as I pointed out above the fact there is nothing under the hood). Seen the video of the journalist riding with that pro driver? You could see her being SCARED *****LESS! You press down the pedal and in 3 seconds you're at insane speed. A situation where your Chrysler or Toyota can never get into since you will have MUCH more time to react and "turn on common sense". Obviously, a car so powerful is much more prone to such damage because you can reach crazy speeds much quicker.

45mph is the same in this porsche as it is in a ford escort.

Oh wow...

Try hitting a wall at 45mph with a 1990 honda civic and with a 2013 volvo s60 and tell me how it turns out...

Oh... but try it with the volvo first so you can be alive to test the civic.

And apparently according to you, going 90 mph, and hitting two signs and a tree also is nothing for this super car.

Look, the hood is still in tact, the paint is barely even marked, this rules out head on collision. The interior looks like a severe fire, there's no door, no hood, nothing to even make it resemble the insides of a car. This is is just not normal.

The front left tire looks undamaged, also ruling out head on collision.

The interior of the car appears burnt/melted, and there is a general sense of chaos to the components, both being characteristics of an explosion, and cars don't normally just blow up for no reason nor do they blow up when a tree is hit at any MPH.

wanted to add this .. it's an GT3 RS but.. it's an idea of what he was driving at a whopping 90MPH .. !!! LOL

to think he just couldn't stop at 90mph or even lose control (not do to any mechanical failure) is seriously ludicrous

(for those at work that can't view the vid.....the car breaks in 6.5s at 322MPH...)

Stop signs and speed limit signs are made to lay down when they are hit by vehicles and do very minimal damage.

I was in an infinite that took out a speed sign -- 0 damage to the car, $118 fine for the sign.

Stop signs and speed signs are bolted to thin aluminum posts with holes drilled up the entire post, the holes are placed purposefully as part of design, to crease the metal at the hole and lay the sign down to the ground so it doesn't kill drivers.

So, did that speed limit sign do any damage to the car? Nothing but cosmetic damage to the fiberglass.

Now if it hit a powerpole, in order to hit the tree, it would have had to have been a "glancing" collision.

If the pole came down, as according to reports, the car would have been stopped dead straight away and never have made it to the tree.

It's also important to note that where they crashed was a straight away.

It's also important to note that these were professional race drivers and mechanics that were taking the car out for a test drive to try to determine why the motor was stalling.

I.E.

You don't go 100+mph testing a stalling engine.

Also... how did they lose control going straight? The objects they hit were just on the side of the road, so there is no evidence of "wildly" loosing control.

The accident is telling you they were going straight and were pushed off the road from the left side.

So either they were going fast and had to avoid a vehicle and veered off, or they were responsibly driving around 50 or so and were pushed off the road by another vehicle, both scenarios, the secondary vehicle fled.

Impossible to prove if there was a second vehicle involved or not, since the only angle on camera is from half a mile down the road and completely obfuscated by the tree line.

There is one other explanation, the car was sabotaged and had it's computer hacked, which would give you wifi access to power steering, breaks, and throttle, as well as "Choking" the motor out.

There are videos on youtube showing that all of this and more are possible when hacking the very car they were in.

Given the circumstances it would be illogical to conclude that they just "lost control" from driving "wrecklessly." It doesn't make it impossible, it just makes it the least likely scenario. This would be extremely unlikely.

As for professional drivers dying because of a sudden failure in the cars performance... How many died when the failure was on a straight away, when they were testing a vehicle they KNEW had ENGINE problems?

I'd venture to say none.

P.S.

That SUV in the traffic cam video from a mile down the road, is highly suspicious.

It comes into the frame from the left, driving in a hurry blows that stop sign, pulls into that parking lot and races towards the wreck.

The SUV was pretty far from the crash, couldn't possibly see it, if he heard and saw the explosion, why would you drive TOWARDS it, not knowing it's a car. It could have just as easily had been a bomb.

Also, what of that car that zooms off in that parking lot towards the wreck?

Who are they? Why were they there? What did they see? and why did they drive towards an explosion that they could only have heard/saw the smoke?

Nobody thought that was weird?
