A private business gets to display whatever holiday messages they wish. If they want to say, God Bless Pink Bunny Slippers, that is their prerogative.

I wonder if the Christians would know what to do with themselves if ever faced with real oppression. Like they have done to other societies for a thousand years or more.

I noticed that Ebay had "Happy Hanukkah" across the top of their pages last week so I emailed them to see if they will be having "Merry Christmas" across the top of their pages for the Christians..I'll let you know if/when they respond with their answer.

Uhm, you basically have two religious holidays that gifts are exchanged among people:

1. One holiday (xmas) was pushed or introduced to non believers via the public school system.

2. The other holiday (Hanukkah) was primarily celebrated in the home and among people of the same believe system.

Maybe you need to also email your Church and honestly ask if you really have a valid reason to complain that your holiday has been hijacked by non believers?

Just a thought.

Yeah, I did read it, you don't have to be a ____. I realized that I meant to respond to the reply under the opening post.

I was merely stating that before you get worked up at all why not wait till December 25th and see what they do.

Do you think they'll have a "Happy Kwanza" or "Happy Solstice"? maybe, maybe not. Who really cares?

Exactly correct. Even "Christians" now idolize Kris Kringle (Santa Claus) and a Christmas tree, others, more commonly, idolize Jesus or his mother. Christianity has been blinded and betrayed by greed and the fierce desire to believe that God could not do it without Jesus or his mother.

And what would be the problem with that?

I never stated there was a problem. I just find it Amusing. Like a lot of things these days.

Unlike Xmax you didn't see Hanukkah being pushed to non Jewish members and into the public school systems.

Well that's Obvious. For 220 odd years America has been run by Christians and filled Christians up till very recently. So what are the chances of Hanukkah being ''pushed'' on non Jews? or any other religious tradition?

Maybe you need to blame the Christians and the corporations for exploiting the holidays.

I blame rampant American Capitalism for turning Christmas into what it has become i.e the prices and the commercials for buying the latest and greatest products. I would bet few of them are Christian who run these places.

The result is that non Christians embraced the celebration and festivities part
Around the Christian tradition of a Christmas tree with presents.

So in order for the Christians to get their Holiday back it might be in their best interest to encourage the corporations to disfranchise themselves from Xmax by using happy holidays versus merry xmas?
No. Christians still have there Holiday. Problem is that these Corporations are bending to the PC brigade who are trying to make life Difficult for people who are Christians on Christmas, because of signs like Merry Christmas and where Christmas tree's stand.

And what would be the problem with that?
Again, no problem. Just stating that many disagree with your statement on ''Christmas is not about religion anymore''. When clearly it is for millions.

However, what does it matter if it says merry xmas or happy holidays?
It matters to a lot of people hence the debates and arguments ever year leading up to Christmas. A lot of people are annoyed because for years there was no problem till the PC brigade showed up.

poppycock! i see christian whining about there tree is being taken away... but i see not evidence of that.

Christmas Trees are EVERYWHERE! Last time i checked, schools still have Christmas tree, Malls have tree and even Santa claus, offices have Christmas tree, my work(which has Multi cultural people), still has Christmas tree and Christmas lunch. Heck even my friend who has Buddhist parents had a tree in there home.

Only difference is see is that people use "happy holidays" instead of Merry Christmas because of many holiday that falls on it and as well as New year/Boxing day holidays. Which i feel is right because im not gonna guess what cult you belong to and wish you in that greeting.

Your blame is with the big corporation that is trying to cater to everyone on holidays.

This is some exaggerated push to play the victim.

I personally find your offence as being offensive. It was rather nice having them say that when everywhere elts has Christmas rammed down one`s throat. The season isn`t just for Christians you do realise that yes? Maybe people should call them up to complain to force them to comply with Rammadan, Quanza or Tete as well then? Why just stop there? But for Christmas it should be called Christmas; NOT Xmas as that should be as offensive as being called a kike for the exact same reason (the mark beside the person`s name when comming over through immigration on Elis Island and eltswhere).

Christians have done more good for this world then any other group. Most of their "oppression" are grossly exaggerated. Sure in hindsight the rampant colonialism was wrong, but they brought people the world over out of the stone age.

And let's be honest, no one here is really talking about "Christians", we're using that loosely to refer to a entire group of certain people.

Christmas along with every other Euro-centric thing is being phased out of this world.

Who cares. Its not like Christmas is about religion anymore.

Sounds like something an Atheist says over and over while putting up the Christmas tree.

Because a Christmas tree is a sacred symbol of christianity?

Question: why do Christians put up a Christmas tree?

Edit: and while you're thinking about that, ponder on this: why do we put a fairy on the top of the tree, and gifts beneath it

The war on Christmas is the biggest load of crap I have ever seen. Christmas is shoved in our faces non stop starting from September on. It is pushed in almost every TV show, every commercial, every radio station, every social network, every news network, decorations in every building including shops. malls, food outlets, schools and Goverment, every resturant and coffee place has special food and drinks, special cookies, candies, snacks, even chips, Chrisrmas themed shirts, sweaters, socks, jewlery and even underwear, Its in our movies, our dramas, our cartoons, our comedies, and our porn. More than anything else in out culture Christmas is pushed on us from every possible way. Granted only a small minority associates Christmas with Christianity but, it is not possible to push Christman in to every fabric of our society than it already is. Talk about a great mind washing of the masses.

It's a symbol of the Christmas. One which Christian make great effort to decorate. A symbol Atheists adopt on the Holidays.

Question: why do Christians put up a Christmas tree?

You should ask a Christian that. I belong to a cult according to someone.

Indeed. The War On Christmas only exists in the minds of Christians with a persecution complex. I really wish members of privileged groups would stop pretending to be oppressed.

Also, I should clarify that I'm not referring to all Christians, just those with a persecution complex.

Jesus Christ, I am so over this discussion year in and year out. Atheists complain about it being used, CHristians complain about its omission. Meanwhile I notice that everyone still exchanges gifts, spends time with family, and eats/drinks a lot.

Why the hell does it matter? Happy Festivus, indeed!

We're already up in arms about Ebay not running a banner that they haven't had time to run yet, hm?

Being gay... I find it very difficult to give certain Christians sympathy about "persecution" of their hijacked pagan holiday and whether or not an internet corporation is running a banner for it.

Man up, clowns. You aren't going to always get preferential treatment about everything.

Nevermind that Christmas is quite easily the most over the top, in your face holiday of the year regardless of your asinine, adolescent complaints about the contrary.

I'm glad to see that more and more people are questioning these antics.

What antics?

Same with the Kosher tax('U' or the 'K') on most foods at the store.

Having never heard of a Kosher tax, I'm very intrigued. Can you tell me more?

With respect to the OP, this is a pretty dumb thread.

Unlike Hannukah, 'Christmas' is not exclusively a Christian festival. Indeed - given there's no real agreement over when Jesus was actually born - 'Christmas' being on celebrated on the 25th of December is nothing more than marrying an important Christian festival to any number of Winter Solstace like practises the world over.

Christianity has been the dominant practise of the West for so long now that virtually all of these Winter Solstace type events now fall under the general umbrella of 'Christmas' - which is why the festival has been adopted by more groups than just Christians, aethiests included, albeit with different messages or meanings.

Given Christians don't 'own' Christmas in the West, a more pertinent observation would be whether eBay (or anyone else) choose to display an Easter message. That is an explicitly Christian thing, after all.
