What would you do if you wanted to know how someone would feel/react in a hypothetical situation? Would you rename it a hypothetical situation thread to appease those that get upset with threads having similar themes?

I would like to point out that often you will see a certain theme or topic being discussed from time to time. Like elections, comets, earthquakes, time travelers, even conspiracies. If you have a problem with it, don't read it. No one is forcing you to participate and the site is laid out so that you can easily avoid the horrors of similar threads/thread styles.

Also anyone who disagrees with me is totez getting reported.

Not to mention this whole website is dedicated to "what if" topics.

That's what conspiracy theories are made of.

What ifs are great if there isn't evidence contrary to the what if.

No I would not rename it. I would put on my asbestos nylons.... and post what I pleased. Those with hurt fe-fe's can go to the Dr. Phil message board.

You are terrible Domo. I like it.

It would be mighty empty around here with no "what if" topics.

The "what if" scenarios are a bit absurd. Its one thing to be inquisitive and quite another to just be spewing idle speculation. I have a feeling some of the more absurd theories are no more than "what ifs". What if there were no planes on 9/11 but instead holograms? See? Its a nice tool to wedge in some disinformation and to make post that make the real conspiracies seem just as ridiculous.

I have also had the distinct impression that some of the threads on here are for data mining purposes. I don't even like to post in threads that would lead someone to be able to speculate about personal information on me such as age /sex etc. even though I have on occasion.

I don't deny being a bit paranoid but I cant be the only one who feels some of this stuff is intentional to redirect peoples attention? I don't mean the "what ifs" exactly when referring to this but there are some threads here that just seem like black holes of speculation where nothing is ever resolved and more often than not is a waste of time which could be better spent with worthwhile real world information.

Was that an actual threat or hypothetically speaking?

What if one had never been reported before and felt like living on the edge!?

Not me of course....I'm sat at home drinking coffee and eating crumpets.....but I am starting to see the possibility in everything!

In many cases the "What if" can simply be a spectrum of perception, ranging from "extremely reasonable" to "extremely unreasonable" hypotheses, many times without forming a cohesive outcome or conclusion to the hypothesis (which may irk some people's nerves). Defining the sensibility of the hypothesis or the "What if" is where lines are drawn in people's minds.

I can agree with that. I guess it is going to depend on the individual and what their expectations are. Some what ifs are used to introduce a different perspective while others are just "wow" threads with no substance.

We'd probably all be sharing a wing in some huge mental hospital at this point.

Unless....

What if there were no mental hospitals for folks with conspiracy bats in their belfries?
