This type of thread is what has been missing from ATS. I haven't found such a useful thread like this in quite some time, so consider this a compliment. You put together possibly the most intelligent collection of information about each of the individual (brightest) stars I've ever read.

Beyond the local library, that is.
And that is in separate books.

DOH! You're right, Feelgood was by Crue.

I was thinking of Master Of Puppets. (the two sound nothing all like of course, but then my brain has been wandering around today).

Yeah guys, Crue played Dr. Feelgood, but Metallica did Orion on Masters of Puppets like Erik said. No vocals, but such a powerful song. One of their best ever in my opinion. Crues home sweet home I can never get tired of. It's a classic. Funny calling a Motley Crue song a classic, but I guess we are getting old guys.

I'd pay to see eriktheawful's lectures, with slides on a giant screen, and some nice space music playing. He could tell the public so much about space and the night sky.

Awwww. Thanks for the compliment.

However, I'd rather be watching Neil deGrasse Tyson. He has a special way of reaching out to everyone, and making you laugh too.

Took this out of my window a couple of nights ago:

Orion rising...
4-second exposure, ISO 1600, with camera firmly propped against the window frame to prevent shake.


Also spot the Hyades and the Pleiades star clusters above it

And a close-up, shot a few nights before that, with a telephoto lens (again out of my window):



I've been surprised how much of the nebulosity I can see in my 10x42 binoculars. I can see the vague arcing shape of the Orion, and even a hint of the Running Man Nebula.

You got a great shot of Taurus and the Pleiades in there too!

That's a great shot considering the lights at the bottom, the fact you had to hold it against the window, and for 4 seconds too!
