First view. Remember Ison isn't a small comet.......

BOTH VIEWS have to be factored to arrive at the proper conclusion.

And yes it is small. The projected path has it over 40,000,000 miles away.

By this ISON Model it as already cross the ecliptic

Outbound pass.

I think "crossing the ecliptic" is wording it badly.
What is really mean is that the comet would be a distance of 1 AU from the sun, as seen from the top perspective.
This, as distinct from the "closest approach to the earth".

But in any case, nothing has changed. Its still now and always has been Dec31 for the former, and Dec27 for the latter. (Depending on which time zone you're in changes things by a number of hours, of course)

So anyway... since nothing has changed, what was the point of this thread?

Edit - assuming the comet actually exists, that is. From what I've seen so far, a debris cloud was visible, but not a "comet".

You're right. How about Earth's orbital path? Is that correct?

Maybe I should have just said "That # dotted line the Earth follows in the animation".

To me the comet cross below the ecliptic on the inbound run
and cross above the ecliptic right after going around the sun
and by the one picture showing a deviation it look like it will
probably be even fared .

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecliptic‎
The ecliptic is the apparent path of the Sun on the celestial sphere, and is the basis for the ecliptic coordinate system. It also refers to the plane of this path, which is coplanar with both the orbit of the Earth around the Sun and the apparent orbit of the Sun around the Earth
ecliptic

You know, this is by far the longest comet drama since I signed up here.
I'm not even an amateur astronomer so I look to these threads here
to deny ignorance. But not once have left a comet thread feeling
less ignorant.

So some clarity would be nice. I know it's not like that for you D.
But from your posts you seem to be aware of this ?

Call me crazy but this is not good. If you look at the predicted flight path it barely misses the earth passing it's southern pole over our northern pole. If Ison is our tenth planet we're F****d. We've seen the doctored data from SDO, what lies are next?

This shows what I tried to explain

OP, do you have another source?

On the one you gave, one of the "related posts" below the one you linked shows that they state that ISON isn't a comet... but a UFO.

Sorry if that makes me question the credibility... but it does. I'd like to see another source.

Also... do you have a source for this little gem?

But how close no one knows.

I hope you will get satisfy now.

That looks too close for comfort on their diagram there. Thank goodness the small distance we see is really millions of miles but that is enough to send a chill. What a fascinating comet this has been.

Did you see both animations? The "side view" should be more than enough to alleviate the chill.

Well. It will be interesting!

A false Flag of some type? Sky actually will be falling or the Space Gold will have to be given to them after all!

Even last night I seen some Make A Wish Stars!

Except last night I heard the Star Fish had a Dis- Ease too! Seems Japan is being covered up on their mess also. So I became Sad also! Lies and more Lies on top of Lies!

If you live in the west coast; Please exit Stage Left! Best thing I can tell YA!

Remember the SIMPSONS? You will be seeing a 3 Eyes fish coming soon!

Peace

This is interesting, flyover is now five days later than predicted but the path is still the same.

This was the first thing I thought of as well...what happened to the Christmas fly by? Now it's pushed back to New Year's. Has the speed of the comet changed since passing by the Sun? Anyone know what the deal is with that?

Never mind...I didn't finish reading through the thread for answers.

I would like to say I am Sorry!

Little did I know History has a Fear of Comets! You just have to Dig deeper to find any Truth!

All I can ask is for your understanding!

Does anyone know if this comet is still in one peace, the tail seems to be displaying some odd behaviour, not actually facing away from the sun, rather sideways to it?

Can someone verify and weigh in on this
just curious

Village Idiot

As I understand the situation, now that it has left the view of the satellites that are observing the sun (and the very close region around it), we now have to wait a few more days until it becomes visible to people here on Earth.

The best views right now would be obtained from space based observatories that are positioned about 90 degrees to the earth's orbit... so about where STEREO-A and STEREO-B are... but these hypothetical satellites would also have the same capabilities but also nothing much to do, and the spare time to go look around at random stuff like comets whenever the urge strikes us.
Such hypothetical space based observatories would also have had to have been made and launched years ago.

Did you see both animations?

Hey D, this is not a 'flame' but merely an observation towards
the posted video's..

We already know that Earth goes through the tail and debris of ISON
and yet BOTH videos show Earth NOWHERE near the comets tail
or it's debris cloud.

So - what's up with that..?

Did ISON's trajectory change that much upon perihelion..?

Or is NASA making false bullsh*t again..?

Just curious

No, the simple answer is that you dont know what you're talking about.

Back on November 2nd, the comet passed through a point in space as it headed inwards towards the sun.
Around the 12th of January, the Earth will also pass *near* to that point in space where it is expected that we might possibly catch the very edge of some fine debris that the comet left behind.

No tail.

From what I hear, Earth will pass through or near where ISON WAS on its way to the Sun. There is no concern about any "debris" from ISON's departure.

ETA: I type very slowly. I see Alfa got it already.

Since I'm already editing I'll add that confusion has been caused by incorrect assumptions in this thread that dates have changed. There is a difference between "ISON passing Earth" and "ISON passing Earth's orbit".

@ Alfa and D -

Thank you both for the clarification;

Apparently you are right Alfa -
I have NO idea what I am talking about..

I suppose that would equate with me asking the questions I did !

It's a "wait and see" game now

science.nasa.gov...

Seems NASA is completely unsure of what will happen other than Earth
will be hit in two different directions of miniscule cloud debris around
January 12th 2014.

Kinda makes you scratch your head!?!
