You defeat your own position here FF. Either believed and rejected OR never believed in the first place.
You come across as a condescending Sherlock Holmes by saying "am I getting warm" to display a deep understanding of the posters history with a bluff statement like this.

OF COURSE HE EITHER BELIEVED AND REJECTED OR NEVER BELIEVED AT ALL. How can you be "warm" if your statement cannot be wrong.

This has nothing to do with 'sin'; 'sin' is a human
invention. Have you noticed?

One can say that 'god' made the following if they
wish:

dirt, trees, air, the sky, the ocean, etc.

And NOBODY can prove otherwise.

But 'sin' ?

That word started to be used in recent times
when some human being first thought up the
concept.

There is ZERO evidence that this is 'god's'
creation. And that this is NOT 'god's'
creation can be successfully argued without
much effort; by even a child.

A child can point at the sky.. at the dirt..
but can a child point at SIN? Why no,
they can't!

Now let's say that daddy is sleeping with
his neighbor and not his wife, and his
child 'point's at this'. Is that 'pointing
at sin'? Why --- that can't be proven.

In the Old Testament, 'God' said it was
ok for Noah to sleep with his daughter.
That it was ok to keep slaves.. etc etc.
And Solomon, beloved of God had hundreds
of prostitutes he controlled.

So neither YOU nor ANY LIVING PERSON
can prove 'sin' even exists.

Now is it POSSIBLE that 'god' is a horrific
monster who made hell for 99% of all
sentient beings? Sure that is POSSIBLE.
But nobody can prove that.

And that concept is so hateful, so anti-human,
that no FULLY loving person could possibly believe
that.

There is none righteous. No not one. For all all sinned and come short of the glory of God. I don't think Christians want to send eveyone to hell. They want people to have peace with God.

I want people to have 'peace with god too' and the way
to start achieving that is to STOP having the GALL to
think that even ONE human being, or mythological
'god-man' has the right to speak for 'god'.

So perhaps you are just in error about this statement, and
quoting a book which has lead to the death, torture, rape,
slavery and genocide of millions as your moral authority
is shaky at best.

Now, have atheists and people of other religions acted in
similar heinous ways? Yes. Very much so.

But you didn't answer any of my questions. You did not
defend your position.

Perhaps you haven't read your bible very much? Perhaps you
haven't studied the Inquistion and the Reformation and the
Nicean councils? Perhaps you don't realize what you have
hooked your wagon to? Perhaps you wish to be a loving
person and don't in fact know what Christianity even is?

I believe that's possible. I see so many good people, who
think they have signed up for something beautiful and
loving and true. But in fact Christianity is just another
piece of culture; and the purpose of culture is to weaken,
confuse and control people.

The reason I posted so strongly, is that I do love you and
everyone else, who is a prisoner of a system which doesn't
even have the right to utter 'god' and be taken seriously.

Make reparations for the millennia of horrific torture and
abuse.. then we'll see if the system in question can
redeem itself.

I am sure that I am not as well read as you nor as educated. But I have read the Bible. Yes there is some horrific stuff but I don't think the inquistion [spelling?] was called by true christians. I think it was caused by fear and the lust for power.

I think the purpose of Christianity is to reconcile people back to God and not give ourselves up to our lusts and pride.

Culture AND religion are natural phenomena of societal and spiritual memes.

The mystic seeker understands that these things often become veils to truth so people like Rumi and Jesus teach us (to be in the world but not of it) in order to inwardly transcend it in order to see reality as it is.

BTW I am not referring to the Jesus that the average Christian has been programmed to believe in by the clerics.

All this bickering and fighting over religion is indicative of the times were in.

All kinds of levels of religious believers versus non religious believers.

Even within religious belief there are deep seated divisions: Islam Versus Christianity, versus Judaism versus Buddhism versus Hinduism versus Sikhism and all those versus the esoteric religious creeds and on and on to the various new cults, i.e., Scientology, Jehovah Witness, Black Muslims, etc.

It gets worse because religion is separated into the more advanced people with a modicum of understanding who have learned tolerance for other beliefs, and those who haven’t learned that, and continue to be addicted to trying to hoist their belief on others, while they themselves have not benefited from the sincere practice of those beliefs.

Then you have the atheists who have ONLY concentrated on the worst kind of believers in any religion and therefore judge all religious people as the same kind of nut.

Even though religious believers of all faiths, Rumi in Islam, Gandhi in Hinduism, the many Christian saints, the Jewish thinkers, the great enlightened Buddha are all examples of great works by believers and there are many more within sincere religious practice.

So both sides have their own problems of intolerance and unjust judgment towards others.

If we learn to lesson our judgment capacity, and increase our tolerance, understanding, and empathy for others we may all gain a better insight on this issue.

Everyone has their own opinion.

But perhaps you might consider, that almost NOTHING which is powerful
in our culture exists for a good purpose, but to put people down, to
pacify them and to control them.

If religion was ACTUALLY good.. it wouldn't be allowed to exist. The
same for the 'new age' and other systems.

But I don't have any 'desire to get into it with you'. Its just when
people make statements which help enable a tragic conspiracy
to control and degrade innocent people.. I stand with the innocents
and speak on their behalf.

That's a great idea. I suggest that the wealthiest corporation in the
entire world and all the other denominations who have been feeding
on humans for all this time get started on that. Then the victims
can do their part too.

Who are you to judge if a person is a fool? Jesus wouldn't support your condescending attitude.

Clearly the bible tells him (her?) to judge - how else can s/he know the fool! Come on...it's obvious....the bible is the inerrant word of god - never wrong, and of course especially never in contradiction of itself...

That's pretty simplistic IMO.

Religion WAS good - for many centuries - it enabled people to cope with great unknowns, and provided comfort in lieu of knowledge.

It is a habit humanity will take a long time to break - but I take comfort from the fact that the cracks started when people wanted to "get closer to" or "better know" god and that was why they started examining the natural world (in the west at least) - and that is what gave us the scientific method.

I do not think we will ever "know everything" through science - but I do know (or even have faith that..) it will tell us more about our existence than religion has.

So thank you religion - for bringing us science. Can you please go away quietly now? Retire to the old folks home for superseded concepts??

That was simplistic by design.

I find that when addressing a person infested with soul-sucking
religious memes, that treating them with love, and the simplest
possible logic imagineable sometimes gets through.

And please don't say that I'm 'talking down to someone' by doing
this.. I'm not.. the more complicated ANY argument is, the more
strawman attacks and logical defenses can be used to deflect
basic logic and common sense.

So there is merit in keeping things simple sometimes.. do you
agree?

I am agnostic, and while some say that is a cop out, I have no problem believing there is something greater than I in the universe. I have looked into many different world religions, and haven't found one yet that fits what is in my mind, there are some that are close.

What totally turned me off of Christianity, was talking to someone at a swinger's club, and they were talking about teaching their Sunday School class the next morning, yeppers, scratch that one off my list.

No, organized religion gave hope and platitudes to the downtrodden, the same downtrodden who were the victims of theft wars slavery by all their Rulers who coincidentally worked hand in hand with organized religion to maintain the status quo.
