I don't know if anyone has seen this video interpretation of the Stereo A movie that is referenced in the OP, but i think it raises some valid points.

If Encke is closer to Stereo A but appears smaller and Encke is 4.8 km in size how big is ISON if it is further from Stereo A but appears larger? I thought ISON was 3-4 km?
Opinions on this please or clarification on the discrepancy?

Hope this help..until now i still dont believe ison core only 3 to 5 km wide..

Im writing this, after 3 minutes of sitting utterly jaw-dropped at that image of the 2 comets.

the lastest STEREO vid is a couple of days old now, any chance of seeing the next batch? Thanks for the great thread.

Truly, amazing. hypnotizing! I cant wait to catch this thing in the night sky.
Cheesy, These, shots/images. Are truly Out Of This World. Thanks, man. S&F

Ison even though much farther away than Encke, sure looks much larger than previously thought!

From Earthsky news

For those of you who remember C/2011 W3 Lovejoy’s beautiful sungrazing passage in December 2011, Lovejoy had an estimated total magnitude of about mag 10 when it was eight days before perihelion, and went on to reach approximately mag -3 at peak. ISON is now eight days from perihelion and is estimated to be around magnitude 4.5. I’m not going to speculate on what that means for its peak brightness, but note that ISON is about 100 times brighter than Lovejoy was at about the same distance!

Its going to put on a show if it makes it around old sol!

Funniest picture ever.

The the solar winds are coming from the right of the picture, yet mercury is somehow further from the sun than the earth?

Go To: Search for STEREO Image

choose your start and end date, make sure slideshow is checked. Click search, not reset as it will clear your dates. Hope this helps. You can also click Where is STEREO on the left bar to see its current postion

Comet ISON is so badass, I was sitting with my globe in the early hours of this morning looking at Australia and if i made a fist it is roughly thee same size as Australia on my globe, I imagined punching my globe really hard like what would happen if ISON hit, was pretty mind blown. Thanks again Cheesy you da man...or da woman, I think you're a man though.

Edit. Awww so it's probably not as big as Australia....I'm just a globe punching weirdo.

I know that there has long been a theory that comets seed life on planets.

Maybe it's just me, but those comets in the video look insanely similar to videos I've seen of sperm making their way to an egg to fertilize it and seed life in humans and animals.

Another example of the micro following the macro perhaps?

OMG

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking. Glad to know I'm not the only one.

They do look like sperm and if they hit a planet it would like they were "Seeding" if for life.

Interesting to say the least.

knowing all the data, could someone predict the path of ISON in a 2D image like this:

could ^^that^^ be a good approximation?

note: did this because of the info that says STEREO A is in the same orbit (plan) of the earth, just to check the trajectory's possibilities, after perihelion. It could include also the study of random trajectory's after the Sun encounter, just check collision course scenario.

Just a quick question to anyone who may know... Not sure if this was covered, but could ISON or any parts of ISON's tail, debris, wake, etc... by chance, knock into Comet Encke's path and push it towards earth? In the OP video, it looks like ISON, could possibly pass Encke before it get's passed earth. So, i'm wondering if there's a possibility of Encke taking a more drastic turn north! Forgive me... i don't crap about comets, i'm just a curious on looker!

Comet ISON is not visible from Nov 23 to perihelion and only becomes visible on or after Dec 5th as it is too close to the sun. The only way to see it is through STEREO A as above.

qnyone else see a problem with this? So, we are to assume that the sun is "out of frame" to the right and generating these solar winds correct?

If that is so, that would place earth closer to the sun than Mercury? And if we can see Earth and Mercury where the heck is Venus? Astronomy and especially Radio Astronomy are not my strong suits, but I'd love for someone to tell me what we are looking at here.

Venus is behind the Sun, and Sun is cropped out from the picture. Mercury is much closer to STEREO-A than Earth, that image is very narrow.

I went on the stereo search program and looked up the last 6 days on most of the different cams it's got available, and I have been noticing a trend in some of the slideshows, and the closer we get to perihelion as in Nov.23/24, the more the cams start to "malfunction" missing most of the hours and lots of clips are cut and fragmented and some of the pics are cropped, ontop of this the sun starts to act up a bit more, but it's also hard to tell since there's so much missing information, at least, for some of the satellite pics/slideshows, is anyone else noticing this, or am I just using the search program wrong?

Yes I did notice this on the times in my screenshot. The 20th of November has hourly slides from 00:05:01 to 23:05:01 (24 slides) then nothing until 07:18:03 on the 21st (total of 5 slides for the day)
The same thing for the 22nd -24th (24th was a partial day)
