I know exactly what it is. It's tiny bits of aluminum and carbon fiber designed to fool radar guided missiles.

Not much. It's supposed to look much larger than it actually is.

Thanks, Aloysius.

I see that the ignorance continues even after the match-up with the time-lapse. You should see the comments on that video you posted.

Why is it so hard to comprehend why a contrail can a) persist and b) how it looks due to both perspective and being sunlit?.

Also the comprehension skills of just how far a contrail be seen?

"Like a Rocket had blasted off"

So do you think it is a rocket? I can never understand why people can't get their heads around perspective? They simply look at a photograph or video and think that because the trail is going up or down in relation to the horizon that it is actually doing so. They never ever seem to take into consideration perspective.

I bet if the following was aired on national TV it would be regarded by the majority of viewers as a rocket/missile being launched.

Perspective fooled the cameraman who was also an ATS poster. He realized that if he had been 20-30 miles away and viewing from the side he would have seen a parallel contrail being produced by the airliner.

See following video. Observe the contrail in front of the camera. Due to perspective it appears to be shooting up out of the horizon. If the aircraft was travelling away from the camera it would appear to be going down towards the horizon. This is why you get so much ignorance posted in relation to contrails claiming that they are obvious missiles. Add sunlight to the combination and it appears all logic goes out the window!

Sounds like there are secret government either rocket or missile tests occurring not even your local wants to you to now.

Or it sounds like the truth from someone who understands how the weather can make contrails look as it did.

Even the locals want you to know.

LOL! Really? Did you even look at the Flight Radar 24 playback link? The time is now defined by the KATU cameraman and news anchor as 0624 (Pacific Standard Time). Previously it was simply a 30 minute window between 0630 and 0700. So with 0624 in mind follow the playback and observe the aviation in the region. Think about the aircrew and passengers on board those aircraft? Note the scheduled flights passing over and in the Mount Hood region? Think about it? A missile/rocket plume going off in a busy flight region and commercial aviation is carrying on as normal? If a missile/rocket launch or plume had been observed it would have been called in by those aircrew and observed by passengers. I know, know you will come back with that the commercial flights were staged and carried no passengers.

Playback starts from 0600 PST to cover some of the flights that crossed south of Mount Hood before helicopter footage from 0624 PST. The map is centered on Mount Hood.

Flight Radar 24 Playback 20/11/13 from 0600 PST 1400 GMT

Now carry on watching the playback into the next hour. You can fast forward. Note the airliners in the region between 0710 and 0715 PST (1510-1515 GMT)

Now note the times of the photographs taken between 0710 and 0715.
