Fireball or Contrail over Oregon skies?

KATU Photographer Mike Warner did while flying in Jet Ranger 2 and he shot this video. He said he and the helicopter pilot were over Interstate 205 at the Clackamas Town Center between 6:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. and spotted the odd sight while looking east

Looking at the pics and video on the website, I have not a clue what it even might be, but my shot in the dark would be metor...i guess; looking for this being already posted with Oregon in the search txt brought up alot of other threads of this simlar event..

very interesting to say the least .. !!

ETA: a friend of ours saw this while driving to work as well .. as others did .. so it's not like it was a small 'thing' in the sky ..

That is interesting. I wonder what it is. It looks like it may have been from a fireball, a military jet breaking the sound barrier quickly could cause the white but I doubt if the dark trail would come from a jet.

Maybe a balloon that cached fire? Seems kinda imploded no?

Well, whatever it is... it came in spiraling! I don't think meteorites do that... but i'm not 100% sure!

Interesting. Doesn't look like a contrai to me and appears to be below the (natural) cirrus cloud cover.

Well interestingly my computer just shut down when I posted it in my thread here that I thought could be related.
I ran all the checks and cleaned but there seems there was nothing wrong with the computer...so I hope my guesses are not too close for someone and i will be removed!

So there is this story and the two fighter landed out of fuel, the runway supposedly covered in debris at the airforce base from "training exercise" and one man who was a tech or a navy Air squadron died from "falling over a cliff" unknown reason being investigated. All this in a couple days time...related?

Small threads story will not spread, I bet the really important things that happen are like that, little news items here and there no one connects.

The headline says it's a meteorite. Maybe that's the update. At the moment it says last updated at 1:27 PM PST.

There certainly is a lot of meteor's recently, it's been quite hectic since the Russian one and with Ison in the mix, interesting.

Going by the video this appears to be a classic case of how far away can you see a contrail. Also another case of a sunlit contrail being misinterpreted.



Run the following playback on Flight Radar 24. (The map should be centered on Mount Hood)

Flight Radar 24 playback 1400 GMT 20th November

It is run from 1400 GMT (0600 PST)

Between 1400 and 1500 GMT you can see the following flight listed taking off from Portland International and heading out East using the waypoints and climbing out to get onto upper air route J15. As they pass Mount Hood (Approximately 40 miles from filming location) and further on they will be passing through 26,000 feet and producing contrails. Perspective makes the contrail appear to go down towards the horizon.

DAL1831 Airbus A320

If you look at the still images the sunlight has also lit up the contrails running north-south. From the playback you can see various flights passing south from the north. For example AS604 and ASA708.

They like doing it late night...

The big meteors will end all that non-sense!!



The anomaly is looking like something fell and burned.

Could also be a chemical dump and its reacting to the atmosphere.

Have a look at Flighradar 24 some time - Oregon is on a LOT of routes to Asia.

Looks like a contrail to me - the end is lit by the sun and the a/c has just changed course foreshortening it a bit so it's a bit "fatter".

Sounds like there are secret government either rocket or missile tests occurring not even your local wants to you to now.

The sprayers turned on over a certain location...

Was a heavy dump over that location...
