An unknown person recently had the proverbial golden stool movement whilst on an airplane in India.

A stash of 24 gold bars worth more than $1.1m has been discovered in the toilet compartment of a commercial plane in eastern India.

Yup, that's right! $1.1 mil in the toilet

Wouldnt a plane notice that much extra weight?!

I know they like to charge me for every damned kilo my bag is over the limit, im pretty sure 1.1 million worth of 24 gold bars would be quite the fee!

at current bullion prices - that's 32kg . quite a mass to attempt to carry " innocently "

I suspect some sort of airline staff collusion

given that :

most airlines have a 10kg carry-on limit

carry-on is x-rayed / searched

the flight origin [ thialand ] has a very rigorous anti smuggling program

I realize how suspicious it looks but are you saying it's illegal to own a load of gold?

I never heard of any rules saying you can't take gold bars with you anywhere...

Anyone wanna catch me up to speed? I live in a cave it would seem.

You are meant to declare money/assets leaving/entering countries above a value of X (i think its $10,000 for the states)

Ahh ok gotcha, I forgot, silly me.

I haven't left the country since I was a little kid so I wouldn't recall.
But I do now thanks to you, rock on Biigs.

So than whomever dropped it there knew for sure it was illegal.
Otherwise, he could have just had it transferred legitimately through accepted sources?

Would the mail service do this? Or would you have to go through the Banking System?
Anyone know more?

I'd love to learn more, and I've never researched this so it could take hours.
Would really appreciate someone who does travel and knows the rules to hook it up.
Thanks.

Most x-ray machines don't detect gold, but it's possible to have an x-ray machine that does detect it. I presume "golden stool" is right on this one. Put a bunch of gold in your arse and do so with your friends and hope that you don't have a bowel movement. I wouldn't understand how it's possible to not poop something out of that size after a few minutes though. Not quite sure how many people would have to be involved though, and aren't gold bars usually really big? I don't think it's possible to fit it up the butt if they are as big as the ones in fort knox.

I honestly don't know what to say, perhaps it was security that put it there first to hide it? It would be pretty easy since security normally don't get searched from my understanding.

Sounds more like an airline employee than a passenger.

Why would a passenger, after successfully getting the gold on the plane, then "stash" it in the bathroom vs. keeping it with them?

It just doesn't make sense...

all x-ray machines will detect gold - as will all metal detectors

an x-ray scanner will detect it - because of its density

metal detectors spot it based on capacitance
