The author of this story is suggesting ObamaCare will be repealed soon enough.

Won't happen. SCOTUS says that Obamacare, which is the largest 'tax hike' in US history, is the law of the land. No matter how obvious it is that we all got screwed, we are stuck with it. IMHO.

Obamacare is not the largest tax hike in history it doesn't even make the list.

Limbaugh, GOP have it wrong: Health care law is not the largest tax increase ever

Forget the United States,"Obamacare is nothing more than the largest tax increase in the history of the world," he declared.
This claim is wrong.
While the health care law certainly is, on the whole, a tax increase, it’s not the largest in American history -- and as such -- cannot be the largest in the history of the world. (Luckily, there's enough U.S.-based research that we don't have to explore the tax increases of the Roman Empire, adjusted for inflation.)

To be honest, that is also how I see it.

I have gone through 2 national currency exchanges, many of my family members/relatives/relatives have gone through a full regime change + many new national systems like Obamacare, whether health care, education system or some other new government run system.

One thing I have learned - however long it has been preached, whatever money is put behind it - at first the system is fu**ed. Everybody is panicking, prices rise, the whole media circus, nobody seems to understand what is happening and the amount of doomsayers skyrockets. After certain period people calm down, prices stabilise, markets settle and no doom happens.

You have to understand that Obamacare is a massive change in the health care system. As far as I have heard, Medicare caused chaos at the beginning - now the people are like "Government, keep you Socialist hands off my Medicare!" .

Wait a year, two , maybe even more, but soon I believe the system would stabilise. I am 100% sure there will be no rollback. In worst case scenario, either a postponement which I highly doubt or simply going over to single payer system, which can even be used as a 2016 presidential campaign promise, as many people are tired of the insurance companies "scam" and universal healthcare has proved itself among most other advanced nations.

Although it will probably settle in coming years and be more effective than the previous system.

In long-term this will be remembered as positive - a change for the better - despite the short term issues.

Maybe you can explain how forcing people to purchase insurance is a stride in the right direction for the "common good" as you put it, or for "equality"?

Using young healthy people to subsidize the weak and sick is being equal?

Forcing people to pay a tax or purchase something they may not need is for the common good?

I have no children in school but I pay school taxes. As a matter of fact, because I own two homes I pay that twice. If my wife and I both died tomorrow, none of the money we've paid into Social Security would be paid to our estate and distributed among our heirs. I pay the state unemployment insurance tax though I have not myself made use of it. I pay for roads I will never use, bridges I will never cross, monuments I will never visit, parks in which I will never recreate. I don't complain because they make ours a better society and I reap the rewards indirectly just as you do.

"Using young healthy people to subsidize the weak and sick" The weak? Would you care to elaborate?

There are some parts of the ACA that most Americans agree with, children on their parents policy until age 26, no pre-existing conditions, and no lifetime limits. These things affect a large number of people. If, and I repeat if, they get the website sorted out, and the average person can access the site, I think more will be pleased. I do not see a repeal in the future, but perhaps some changes that will bring it more in line with what was envisioned by the left, and the right, at least a portion of them will fight anything that the Dems bring to the table, out of sheer spite and anger.

Weak and sick would be the opposite of strong and healthy would it not? Nice attempt at deflection though, but you still have not answered my questions, and truth be told, I doubt you will be able to within the parameters you outlined.

They have to do something to try to save an economy that's showing some major signs of collapse in 2014. After all, Obamacare is looking to play a major roll in that collapse as it pulls down the entire insurance industry. I know most of you think that's just great, but there are a lot of people employed in that sector of the economy and no jobs being created to take up the slack.

The real fun might begin next month, when Healthcare.gov is supposed to be up and running, and ready to deal with the expected rush of millions seeking new insurance policies before the New Year. Let’s assume that the site is functioning well enough, even if only barely, and that the state exchanges are up and running, too. Millions are going to find themselves facing the twin devils of higher premiums and higher deductibles. That means they’ll take home less pay, and have to sock away more money into savings. The resulting reduction in consumer spending — 70% of the U.S. economy — could be a body blow to our already weak growth.

Or suppose the rush never materializes, since only 22% of the uninsured actually plan on buying ObamaCare policies. That’s the “death spiral” insurers fear, when rising prices force out the young and healthy, leaving them with nobody but the old and sick. At the start of the new year, our economy might just be looking at a collapsing insurance industry, declining consumer spending, rising underemployment, and a shrinking labor force — all at once.

Good one, Obama ... I mean Carney ... I mean Sebelius ... oh right Buster.

Go on and twist FF's comment into something that it wasn't. I just checked my pay stub and guess what? ObamaramaCare IS going to be my largest out-of-paycheck expense. ObamaramaCare, followed by straight federal tax, followed by Social Security.

Congratulations gang!! America is now one of the most heavily taxed societies on Earth! We're Hell bent for leather on showing the Russians that Communism could have worked if they were only as clever as us.

It drives me crazy when people go around saying that they lost their insurance because of "Obamacare". They didn't. They lost their insurance because their health plan didn't make the necessary changes that they knew they had to make in the previous THREE YEARS that they had to make them. These regulations were needed..BADLY! I have said a million times and I will say it again "INSURANCE COMPANIES DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU OR YOUR HEALTH AND WILL SCREW YOU OVER ANY CHANCE THEY GET!" I know, I work with them every day.

I used to be a financial councilor for a hospital and I got so sick and tired of having to tell terminally ill people that they had to stop their chemo because their insurance said they "Maxed out" or that they just "dropped them" because now they are "high risk" (meaning they will lose money). I am so happy that they can't do that any more.

Don't get me wrong, I am not all big of an Obama fan, but this needed, my only regret is that the regulations didn't go far enough.

Let me ask you a simple yes or no question. If Obamacare never came into law would these people still be able to keep their insurance the way they had it? Simple yes or no, don't want any further elaboration.

Wasn't it just days ago that people & pundits were talking about Republicans fearing for their political lives because of the debacle with the shutdown and debt crisis?

Sounds like someone is trying to make chicken salad out of chicken sh#t...as per usual in politics.

This was strictly a comment on the political ridiculousness noted above. I am actively disinterested in beating the ACA dead horse any further...poor thing is down to a few strips of hide & bone...

it will not survive, like many things will not survive the upcoming years. it will be unfunded by the American people, mainly because most have no funds. it was never designed to do anything but cause chaos and steal wealth anyway, so it will be good to see it go.

It's the promises Obama made all through the ordeal up to the Oct 1st start.

He knew all about the "changes" and he knew the so-called "Grandfather" policies were non-existent for the most part.

The Federal Register had all of it down in writing in 2010.

This is what people will remember next November.

It's all about the lies and deceptions of Obama and his minions.

There's plenty of threads that show the proof.

This question is simply trying to lure the answer you want, because of what, this question should not be answered that way.

The system was a joke before Obamacare. Too many people were suffering due to massive healthcare bills, the insurance companies often found some reason to not cover something. Healthcare bankrupted many people and was a joke for the rest of the advanced nations.

Currently you do not exactly know what Obamacare will bring in the coming years. The system is too new to say something for certain, but based on previous experience with nationally changing systems, I would predict at the end it will turn out to be better than the previous system for majority of people despite the initial issues.

Many Canadians I know applaude Obama for his integrity and sticking to his promise of affordable healthcare for every American!

That's just it though.......he didn't keep that promise at all, and it's not affordable for most Americans. You have to read it to understand it.

Sure hope not!

It's a shaky transition period and many people are unhappy but I think forward to a decade where new, young, American kids look back in the history books and realize what Obama did was "the right thing to do!".

Many Canadians I know applaude Obama for his integrity and sticking to his promise of affordable healthcare for every American!

Everyone's cost is going up, and there are absolutely zero cost cutting measures in the ACA. Obama has been proven to have made backroom deals with special interest groups that will keep costs high. Where is the integrity you speak of? What promises has he kept? How will this become affordable?

Good luck on that happening, republicans have 0 chance to win the next presidential run, but you guys can keep on dreaming.

Even if obamacare is as bad as all the made up stories, reps still cant win the white house.

And no i aint a democrat

I dont think you have ever heard the name Bobby Jindal.

That man will be President the very minute he decides it is worth it for him to run. If it was 2016, than he would be our President, and probably the only republican even worth looking at.

The thing is, Jindal is too smart and knows exactly when it will be best for him to run. If you see a sweep for the republicans in 2014, then expect Jindal's name to all of a sudden pop up into the mix shortly thereafter.

He has already said what his plan is. To wait until the House and Senate are Republican heavy or likely to be and then make his run for office. He wants to actually accomplish something and he knows he needs the other branches in order to make things happen.

Seriously Jindal is a powerhouse and noone even realizes it. The democrats would be hard pushed to defend against him too. They would have the reverse racism card to deal with. After being all loud about Obama and proud of the first Black President, they would all but have to follow through with that on Jindal since he is of Indian descent. And if they didnt vote for him they would be perceived as racists like the republicans were over not voting for Obama.

Face it, if Jindal wanted 2016, it would be his. Hes a brown man, with a southern, country, charming voice and would be AWESOME for relations with that other Billion people he descends from over in India. Plus he is actually INTELLIGENT, like for real smart, and thats something weve missed from our President for quite some time.

Pretty much he would be Obama, but WAAAAYYYY better. He would actually do something, and something both sensible and meaningful. Id vote for him, and I HATE both political parties and Washington DC in general.

Don't forget that eventually the Feds will stop picking up the tab for the Medicaid expansion if you state has chosen to accept that, and then the state will also start looking for more ways to take that out of your hide ...

So you would have the weak and sick just go die in a gutter?

Agreed obamacare is a major f'k up. But you original system wasnt much better seeing as the usa ranked 46 in overall healthcare in the world. So something big was wrong. Maybe you should have looked to places like hongkong or singapore that ranked at the top......well you missec the boat and now your likely to drop lower than 46
hey long as you stay above iran and north korea right?
