First, I zeroed in on the part I wanted to keep and cut the rest out. That step right there helps to eliminate some of the 'strectching' when I go to resize it.
The size I use is 200x440 for the average BG
Both pictures are pretty so you could do the same with another portion of the pictures if you want to play with them. I mainly stuck with the objects and focused on them
For example, on the same picture I focused on a different spot and 'cut' what I wanted out before I resized it.
Also, after I've played with it, sometimes I'll go to 'Filters' then 'Enhance' then click on 'unsharp mask' and tweak it some more to bring the details of the image out more. Just a little....
