I am surprised no one started a thread on this one.

www.foxnews.com...

Each is powered by a microbial fuel cell, containing live microorganisms like those found in the human gut or sewage treatment plants. The microbes digest the waste (or urine) and produce electrons, which can be harvested to produce electrical current, Walters said.

The researchers have already proved the microbial fuel cells can use urine power to charge a mobile phone.

Anyone ever pee into a beer can to avoid stopping on a road trip?

Well, maybe this could be the future for charging your electric car.

Drinking and driving might become legal, or maybe, it all a conspiracy.

Personally I see no limitations to this kind of technology.

And to think we have been flushing this yellow gold down the drain.

Wow! That is... both incredibly cool and incredibly fun.

At least, pee is cheap... you can literally "pee" your own electric energy...

Hehe, I say, Awesome!

S&F for the find!

when cars and bicycles had carbide lights, urinating in them was known to recharge the cells .
so the science is being rediscovered in a more sophisticated way but the idea is not new .

At one time the only known way to make Phosphorus was to get it from human urine. Large vats would be setup and the urine was allowed to dry for 30 days. Then it was boiled. The remaining powder was very high on phosphorous.

Farmers looking for a natural way to fertilize their crops may need to look no further than human urine, which is naturally rich in nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus – the same ingredients in conventional fertilizers.

Although the use of urine as fertilizer is rare (though not unheard of) today, it has actually been used as fertilizer since ancient times, and new research suggests it may be wise to bring this ancient tradition back.

We wouldn't want to interfere with big oils burning desire to burn up all the crude oil on the planet.

They are trying to save us from an alien invasion, I think.

Oddly enough, human urine will also get rid of fire ant mound.

I didn't believe it until I tried it myself.

Easy to take care of in the back yard but take caution when in the front yard. Neighbors may not think kindly of you!

If it turns out to be a way to make cheap energy, then the government will come up with some piss poor reason we cant use it because of national security reasons....

I gotta wonder how hard it would be to set up such a system.

With Wind power, solar power, urine power, one could get off the grid.

Don't forget to combine the Antenna Power harvesting for any RF, Satellite or GSM signals coming your way.

I can already see the Zionists in Washington DC coming up with a 'pee tax'. Then, it will become against the law for anyone to pee in someone elses gas tank. Then ultimately, it will become a felony to pee in your own vehicle so that you have to get pee at the pee station. This is my prediction.

I would have titled this thread 'new batteries take the piss!'

Could Urine Be Tomorrow's Oil?

ED to add. Also see Jude11's old thread, Toilet 2.0 Human Feces & Urine = Gold

Surely this story is a piss take.
Brings a new meaning to the term a salt and battery.

From what I remember, dried urine can also be used as an explosive. Better watch out the NSA surely has this post flagged just for talking about it.

I figure someone had already done one, but nothing came up on a search.

What the heck, we could use another one. It seems the idea hasn't gotten enough attention. I wonder why?

Nice thread, a flag for you.
