......... and while we are celebrating the birthday of the Marines, there are Marines out there doing what they do...

For example, landing C-130s in the storm ravaged Phillipines to provide humanitarian aid to the victims of Super-Typhoon Haiyan, which had measured sustained winds of 195 mph, and gust to 230 mph.

It's not surprising in the least to me that they are one of the first on the scene. USMC and Navy providing SAR operations, in addition to medical aid and other badly needed supplies.

In Washington, the government said it was sending $20 million in humanitarian assistance to the Philippines, including emergency food and other relief supplies. The shipments include 55 metric tons of food along with plastic sheeting and other shelter materials, sanitation supplies and hygiene kits.

USMC and Navy respond:

"I don't believe there is a single structure that is not destroyed or severely damaged in some way — every single building, every single house," U.S. Marine Brig. Gen. Paul Kennedy said after taking a helicopter flight over Tacloban. The U.S. has supplied 5 C-130 cargo planes and four MV-22 Ospreys to aid the relief effort.

Godspeed.

hi
sorry to be ignorant but does Marine mean a person serving in the Navy?

We have 3 areas of defence over here in AU Navy, Army and Airforce.

So in AU a Marine might be in the Navy, a Sailor.

What do you call People who are in the Army?
Is that what you mean by Marine?
