An excellent TED talk on the whys and wherefores of the drug war in Mexico and how American's are directly responsible for what's taking place over there.

Not all of this will come as a shock to many people (though, there is no accounting for human ignorance). But, the way this is presented serves to highlight the professional manner in which this business is undertaken, really drives home the fundamental fact that the "war of drugs" is well and truly lost if we continue down this dead end path prohibition.

While American's propensity for illicit substances is the root enabler of Mexico's cartels. The inherent corruptibility of mankind is why the Mexican Govt. Allows it to continue.

If the Mexican Govt. we're properly motivated to solve the issue, it would be. They aren't so it isn't.

They're in a veritable war with the drug cartels over there — I'm not certain what more you'd want them to do. Carpet bomb cities, perhaps...?

The curious thing is, with $600 billion p.a. the U.S. spend on military hardware and all the war hawks with itchy trigger fingers about the place, you'd think the White House could muster a flimsy "WMD's" -type excuse to go into Mexico and clean the place up. Considering the ravenous, on-going requirements of the Military-Industrial Complex and how close to home all this is, I think this is a legitimate course of action...
