Hello ATS! The book of Revelation has always been a very interesting topic. It is also a very intimidating topic to cover for most Preachers, which
is why they shy away from it. The Book of Revelation shows us the other side of Jesus Christ, the ALMIGHTY GOD side of him... it is the other half of
his story, the first half being the four Gospels. There are numerous opinions on its meaning, symbology, and relevance in regards to the present day.
Some people believe that none of it is to be taken literally, while others believe that the events described within the book happened centuries ago.
Others, like me, believe that the book of Revelation is a timeline of future events, and we are in the end times right now. Have any of the seven
seals described in chapter 6 been opened? No one knows, I certainly don't know, but what I do know, is that if you are a believer in the Lord Jesus
Christ, and you have entrusted your eternal salvation to him by way of your faith through His Grace, then it really is of no consequence. Your soul
is eternally secure. For those that have not accepted the free gift of salvation, I suggest that you revisit your decision before it is too late(see
Having said all of that, there are numerous topics that can be discussed that are found within Revelation, but I specifically want to cover the
identity of the 144,000 found in Chapters 7 and 14, but before I do let me disclose the perspective from which I am writing this thread. The Book of
Revelation is made up of 22 chapters, and the prophecy is told twice. Chapters 1 - 11 are the entire prophecy, and chapters 12 - 22 are the entire
prophecy retold, except from a different perspective with much more symbolism. The first part of the Book can be taken literally, and should be,
while the second half is far more symbolic and requires a lot of Bible study to understand most of the symbology, however the two parts of the Book
compliment each other, and when read and compared together the entire picture of the end times is revealed. I also believe that the seven year period
known as Daniel's 70th Week should be divided in half. The first 3 1/2 years is the Tribulation, and the second 3 1/2 years is when God pours out
His wrath on the Earth. The Rapture occurs after the Tribulation, but before God's wrath.
Most Christians would disagree with me, and would say that I am wrong when I say that the Book should be divided in half. They would also disagree
with my belief on when the Rapture occurs. They would also disagree with me that the Tribulation and God's wrath are two different events, but when
you read it these are the only conclusions that can be drawn. Most Christians have never read the Bible, which is why so many people follow false
teachers, because they don't know that the false teacher is wrong. For example, John Hagee couldn't be more wrong, but his followers just take his
word for it, instead of reading and studying for themselves. Anyway, all of that is a conversation for a different day...now onto the point of THIS
Who are the 144,000
(note: all scripture quoted is from the KJV)
We are first introduced to the 144,000 in Revelation 7:1-8
And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow
on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.
2 And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it
was given to hurt the earth and the sea,
3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.
4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of
5 Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve
6 Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nephthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed
7 Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve
8 Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve
You will notice that the angels are preparing to harm the Earth, but before they do the 144,000 must be sealed. By the way, the fact that the angels
have not yet begun to harm the Earth is proof that God has NOT started to pour his wrath out on the Earth. Also, the events of the Tribulation
occurred in Chapter 6, with the last verse of chapter 6 stating "For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?" This is
proof that the Tribulation and God's wrath are two separate events. If you keep reading past verse 8 you will see the rapture in verse 9. Anyway,
let's get back to the 144,000... I will discuss why they must be sealed in a minute.
Before we go any further, lets discuss the word "Jew". Most of you have probably heard about the "144,000 Jews". The most popular belief among
the vast majority of Christians is that 144,000 Jews who are alive on Earth today will be chosen by God to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the
world during the Tribulation. For that to be true, there must be 144,000 Jews on Earth today who believe in Jesus Christ. But wait, there's more...
let's see what Revelation chapter 14 says...
And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their
2 And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with
3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred
and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.
4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were
redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.
5 And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.
6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation,
and kindred, and tongue, and people,
7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and
the sea, and the fountains of waters.
Now that we have looked at what chapter 14 says, we have the entire picture regarding the 144,000. Looking at verse 4 we see that the 144,000 are
males, virgins, and followers of Christ. Now I will challenge you... go find on this Earth today, 144,000 male virgin Jews who follow Christ. Go
ahead, I'll wait.
