Good afternoon fellow ATS writers!

Today marks the beginning of November's Writing Contest.

Earlier this week I set up the following thread with the theme choices submitted by AboveBoard. Originally I was going to run voting until tomorrow, but the majority of you seem to have already made up your minds.

That, and I think a challenge is due and this particular theme should present exactly that.

This month's contest is an OPEN STORY theme. The only real rule being the following:

Open Story - Main character pov is NOT human (could be a paranormal creature, an alien, an animal, a plant, a computer, whatever - just not human)

This means you can write a love story, a crime drama, a conspiracy story or any other kind of story, so long as the above rule is followed. Fiction or non fiction.

Contest Rules

The contest will run from Friday 11/8/2013 to Saturday 11/30/2013 at Midnight. Any submissions after that date will be disqualified. A period of voting after the closing of the contest will also be provide.

I'm currently thinking 5 days.

All T&C's Apply

All entries MUST include [Nov2013]in the title.

All entries must be linked in this thread. You must include [writer] [non-writer] in your submission post within this thread.

There is no minimum or maximum character count.

All writing forms are acceptable.

3 single submissions per member. No part II's. They must be individual entries.

There will be 3 winners among members who already have "Writer" status. They will be judged separately from all other entries based on stars and flags received.

1st Place -- 5 Applause & next contest theme choice.**
2nd Place -- 3 Applause
3rd Place -- 1 Applause

There will also be 3 winners from the non-writer category who will receive the following:

1st Place -- 3 Applause & Writer Status
2nd Place -- 2 Applause & Writer Status
3rd Place -- 2 Applause

** As with the previous contest, the story with the most flags will receive the honor of choosing the January Writing Contest Theme. **

Scoring

Flags will be worth 2 points each.
Stars will be worth 1 point each.

This worked out relatively well in the last few contests, so I'm hoping to continue. I am updating the format a tad however.

OP's that contain more than the standard 10 thousand character count will be awarded additional scoring.

All stars awarded to the 2nd and subsequent posts will be worth .5 bonus points. This is to encourage members to write longer and more fleshed out stories, although it is NOT a requirement.

As for the overall winner in stars and flags. The winner of the ATS Halloween Writing Contest, Swanne will be choosing the theme for December, which is why this month's winner will choose January's.

So that's it from me folks, if you have questions or concerns, please feel free.

Let's get to writing!

~Tenth

How do you write from a nonhuman perspective using a human language? *shaking my head*

But I did manage it. Thankfully, I have a couple weeks to polish it up before posting it. I'm a fast typer. Best of luck to the rest of you! Let's blow it out of the water!

I'd like to ask a few quick questions about the parameters of this thing. I'm unsure whether or not my story qualifies.

If you could get on chat, tothetenthpower, I'd appreciate it, I wouldn't mind clearing up some confusion about it.

To get your head around that question try this. The Alien writes it in the their language and then you translate it to English. Alternatively, the Alien learns English and translates on the fly. This allows any grammar or spelling mistakes to be 'well what do you expect from an Alien using Engwish.'

See, it only takes a shift in perception!

Can it be fanfiction? I have idea about a story of a car possessed by the General Lee, and it's the main character, getting revenge on the cops who killed it's owner.

Really challenging, I like it! I think I'm going to have to dust off my grey matter and see what springs forth.

It's been awhile, but I felt like writing tonight.
Maybe I'll give it more thought and write another one later.

The Good Bitch [Nov2013]

[non-writer] Fiction.

Well, I hope someone likes it. Non human POV was not as easy as I thought, but I gave it a try.
