Was watching today on television. What I found odd was,
The two officers Lightoller and Murdoch are addressed interchangeably
a couple of times. Wonder why?
Sometime ago saw a documentary on you tube about the Titanic Saga.
The video ends with the following words " The Titanic sailed today from
Southampton, on her maiden voyage, TO BECOME A MYTH.
Now wondering, what's on with this saga, being referred to as Myth.

Any good thoughts?

Myth, quality of being mythic or legendary...

Its not really proper use because Myth tends to be false, but you could see how just the Titanic movie in and of it self is a Myth.

Its a historical legendary event, with a mythical love story thrown in.

Its become romanticized and apparently a good place have a story take place.

For that matter the same could be applied to Pearl Harbor or 9-11.

No no, the documentary was not about the movie at all.
It was either history channel or BBC about the real happenings

But it still applies, the fact they made a movie with fake story in it, means its become mythical...

Just some editor who was trying to put together advertising copy. If he had used the word "legend" it would have conveyed the same meaning and was probably what he intended.....

.....unless you think this is a vast conspiracy or something.

List of movies made about the Titanic including "stories" with fictional elements...

List of films about the RMS titanic

10 all before 1960 alone.

There's some elaborate conspiracy theories out there, that the ship that sank was not the Titanic but another damaged ship that sank while trying to stage an insurance claim.

The movie, when it came out I kept telling people their was an alternate ending at the end of the credits where the ship sinking was actually a dream and they run aground near a remote island.

A leg end is afoot...maybe that's the conspiracy!

Ugh... Conspiracy? yes

Legend is a story which may be true or fiction,
but myth means a hoax.

In the movie version and maybe also in the true version,
on spotting the iceberg, the officer, orders hard a starboard, and all engines astern
where as helmsman turns the wheel to port and the vessel does
turn to port eventually, but not in time to avoid the iceberg.
Now to really avoid the iceberg, the officer should have kept the starboard
engine ahead and ordered the centre and port engine astern and also all rudders to port.
were the officers incompetent on a pax liner?
