Iraq war claimed half a million lives, study finds

america.aljazeera.com...

About half a million people died in Iraq as a result of war-related causes between the US-led invasion in 2003 and mid-2011, an academic study suggests

www.washingtonpost.com...

This chart shows that the Iraq war was worse than we think

Thats just Iraq! Not even including Afghanistan, Libya, Syria.. and wherever else US/NATO have struck in mideast this past decade through present; let alone in indochina just few ago.

So, who's behind those deaths, i mean, that genocidal massacre of Iraqis? Whose money finances all this terror upon, these days, the mideast?

Yeah al jazeera is a non biased source right? Seriously th eofficial death toll is kept by iraqi body count. They get their Official records FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF IRAQ. Al jazeera is oppossed to the new government there. The death toll COMBINED is mostly thanks to the Attacks on the public with car bombs and intentionally being in crowds of civilians when attacking Soldiers. Also A casualty is not always a KIA or death either.

How the excess deaths occurred is not the issue. It's the fact that they are an occupied country, they had nothing to do with 9-11, there were no WMDs, and Saddam was OUR puppet, installed and propped up by us until he wasn't anymore.

Madeline Albright is on video record as saying the 500,000 child and baby deaths attributable to UN Sanctions 'were worth it', the witch.

Our representatives are war mongerers and evil to the nth degree, and the world knows it. We are now international pariahs, not the flag waving good ol' boys that we keep telling ourselves. There's only so many times your troops can murder and rape a girl and her entire family and set them on fire to hide the evidence, or urinate on corpses, before you kind of lose your standing in society.

And WE call THEM savages.

Get real. Anyone who has ever studied this conflict knows that the war turned around when Iraq's tribal leaders switched sides and joined the collocation after getting pressure to rid Iraq of al-qedia and there random bloodthirsty butchery of anyone who didn't agree with them-including Muslim women and children.

Anyone who says things like 'Saddam was OUR puppet, installed and propped up by us until he wasn't anymore' is trivialized and ignored as obviously they have never studied the conflict other than at wracked out truther sites.

Oh what bull#.

I've studied the fiasco that is/was Iraq well beyond "truther" sites and the turning of the tide wasnt because tribal leaders just decided not to play with al Qaeda.

The war was fought with zero foresight. Decision makers surrounded by yes men and Saddam was a puppet for a long time. He went rogue, I mean really, silly man shouldn't have even considered an oil bourse. Besides it was always a forgone conclusion, there was no way we would have been permitted to slap him with new sanctions since it was well known that the only people getting hurt by it were harmless children dying of starvation and lack of basic medical care. Without sanctions we'd have lost are grip on him and god knows what beans he'd share on the world stage.

Btw, thanks for sharing OP, the tragedy and needless wanton carnage that ensued year after you should have been a wake up call to everyone. ....all eyes on Syria and Iran. I wonder how secure Saudi Arabia feels right now? It's best they don't outlive there usefulness.

Right and no US pressure was ever placed on Iraq Body Count or the respective government to keep the numbers artificially low. Just like US soldiers who died in route to or in Germany medical centers were not added to the total death count...which were many.

Persons who study military history don't call wars 'fiasco', then fail to respond to the statement they just disagreed with. Perhaps, you have studied the conflict beyond truther twaddle, however it sure doesn't sound like it.

It is a fact the tribal leaders switched sides and fought with the American led forces. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, was killed in an American airstrike after being tipped off by Bakuba tribal region leaders for his beheading of an entire family that disagreed with his order to murder a young girl who was seen in public without a burqa.

These are facts. It changed the entire conflict that America was losing at the time.

I don't know the official body count... However I could post a video of guys driving and pulling along side of a car and screaming Allah Akbar and killing everyone inside. Then going from check point to check point, again with the heart felt Allah Akbar and killing everyone. The body count was well over 40 in the brief video. The video is the real deal with shots to the body and then the "make sure" walk through and one or two to the head .. Not a Nato or American solider died in the making of the video.. Chaos and death rules that land as it does Afghanistan and I see no hope for a future without a death for many people. Force of will and war, especially with a mix of religion is a hell on earth...

Surgical strikes by drones are a misnomer; there is nothing surgical if collateral damage is taken into account.

DU if what we read is still killing and will continue to kill for many years to come while the factions are hell bent on creating a land they dream worthy of calling their home. I don't know who all the players are anymore only that after all these years the killing continues with no end in sight.
