Hi Guys

I'm not religious and don't post in this forum, but my family are.

I received this from my dad today and thought it a fitting, simple explanation.

A woman was asked by a co - worker, "What is it like to be a Christian?"

The woman replied, "It is like being a pumpkin." God picks you
From the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off of you. Then He
Cuts off the top and scoops out all the yucky stuff.

He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, and greed. Then He carves
You a new smiling face and puts His light inside of you to shine for all the
World to see."

This was passed on to me by another pumpkin. Now it's your turn to
Pass it to other pumpkins. I liked this enough to send it to all the
Pumpkins in my patch!!

Just thought you might enjoy it

Cody

May your God be with you all

A cute one. Sounds like it came off of Facebook. But still cute.

He... cuts open the head and removes the content?

He... then carves a fixed smile on the face?

And.. is this supposed to give God a likeable image?

Really?? Because even the nice and heartwarming part about lighting a light in your head for others to see - doesn' cut it for me. Sorry for being an old grinch, but, well, I couldn't resist posting.

The woman replied, "It is like being a pumpkin."

Nice analogy - thanks Cody....

but, I thought you were gonna say that it's like being a carriage for Cinderella, and at midnight you get changed back into an ordinary pumpkin.

And I don't go for the "God picking you" stuff, either. We ALL have the divine light in us.
But yeah, it's clever.

CHEERS!

Hey, Codster.....

you don't have to be religious to post in this forum - you just have to be interested in what it's like to be religious, or what 'religion' has to do with 'life.'
I'm CERTAINLY not religious...but I'm here every day!!

This analogy encapsulates what Paul refers to in the Book of Galatians as living "Life by the Spirit", being transformed by faith and experiencing the presence of the Spirit of God in every day life.

Even though the analogy is about pumpkins, it expresses an important spiritual principle which must be experienced to understand, and hence is very fun for haters to scoff at.

ATS is a great place to encounter people who profess to believe in freedom of religion and spiritual beliefs, yet regularly persecute and harass those with traditional Judeo-Christian beliefs. Go figure.

I have been surprised by that too. I'm not religious myself but, I would not have expected so much anti-religiousness among the supposedly open-minded. I must point out that most of my experience here is in the political forums so I suppose it isn't so surprising.

Anyway, kinda creepy analogy Cody but, I get the intent which is uplifting!

Thanks cody,

The "light" inside you is God's presence in your soul. Sometimes, people have the gift to see it literally.
An "aura" of light surrounds the person. My brother-in-law has the gift.

Isn't it ironic to use the imagery of a Jack O'lantern to describe Christianity...wasn't that attempted once before and why he have six thousand videos on youtube about the pagan roots of Christianity???? LOL.

Aside from that, it is a cute analogy. Except for carving the face....that makes it seem like God is a plastic surgeon, and maybe that's why so many Jewish people either become plastic surgeons or get their noses fixed????

Oh slap me now, I was being insensitive (I do have Jewish ancestry, so perhaps a little leeway here?)

As I am a very visual person...you just gave me so many visualizations to joke about. Sorry to everyone for being insensitive, it is a very cute analogy.

I just joked about Pagans, Christians, Jews, God and plastic surgeons....shame on me and now I will have to repent. Sorry thread, I didn't mean to be so snarky or derail the thread.

OP, that's a nice explanation and I hope it gives you meaning for your life.

Just popping back

Don't worry about it I was born into a Christian family, have 2 Jewish kids and take no offence whatsoever.

I was just passing on an email from my dad.

My life is full of light and meaning, and for that I am grateful to experience.

Some of it very bitter, only to enhance the sweet in hindsight.

So now when life smacks me in the face, I smile, knowing there is lesson I will learn, and with luck pass on.

No worries. You don't have to 'repent' for having a sense of humor, for crying out loud!!!

You carry on! No harm, and NO FOUL.

You're a good soul, dude. And a GREAT dad, I'm sure!!!

I like my analogy better: Here it is>>>>

Children are told if they are good Santa will bring them toys for Christmas.
This is not exactly true. There is no real Santa . So it is a lie.

Adults are told if they are good they will go to heaven when they die.
There is a lot of evidence for reincarnation .Literally thousands of documented case studies.
The existence of "heaven" must be taken on faith. Faith is "belief without evidence".

Lovely sentiment... but if anyone might read the OT I don't see how its possible to come to this conclusion

Its all about Hatred... and an envious, wrathful, Jealous so called "God"
