EU is far from what Soviet was like, trust me on that. Having experiece with both systems, these are like night and day.

Anybody, who lived during Soviet era, sees that even Modern Russia is more similar to it than EU. Not because of their "left-wing" policies, but the corruption and propaganda.

US is one of the most right-wing nations in the world.

Although, the world is not black and white - right-wing/left-wing; capitalism/communism. Every system has it perks and drawbacks. I can not get why people are against mixing these up, taking the best from both ends and choosing a central position. There is gray area between the black and white after all.

I personally prefer the system, which is people-oriented, not Darwinian capitalism. No individual, corporation should be held above the other people and environment, where generations of people have to live in after them. Even when you own the land, you have no right to ruin it so nobody after you can use it... Strong ones should help weaker ones rather than exploiting them. Nothing is more important than human life. No person born in advanced nations should die or even suffer because of financial issues. Personal responsibility should exist, although so people who work harder could afford luxuries, not for basic survival. People should work for luxuries not survival. To take it all shortly : strong social safety networks, strong unions, highly regulated companies so none would raise their profits from exploiting people´s basic needs or exploiting environment.

What a load of cods wallop. European nations can hold referendums to withdraw from the EU. Tell me when a nation could do the same under the Soviet system.
You did notice i take it that the article was in the Far Right Daily Mail.

Nice to have a first hand perspective on it. Starred!

I completely agree with you about mixing the best attibutes of various systems but Europe needs to be very wary of allowing the EU to become too powerful or else you'll be in the position of the American Union (which was the founding concept of the USA), which becomes more federal-ruled every day.

When ruling a large area centrally, the voice of constituents is lost. You can see that here with the near total loss of states-rights.

Things like the EU trying to force GM crops on nations scare me. Or trying to ban trade on certain items like Finnish sausage becasue it doesn't meet their 'sausage rules' by being mostly bread and grain lol.

You have your;
Communism
Socialism
Fascism
Democracy
Representative Republic
Totalitarinism

All it comes down to is this;

To what degree is the government (a central controling authority) involved with your life?

Me? I opt for an ism, where the government remains small, where it does not interact or influence my life. Where it does not restrict my freedoms, or impose a draconian rule upon my liberties.

Others? Well, apparently, they long for a controlling central authority to make all of lifes decisions for them. To have a dictatorial government influencing and taking charge of their lives. A government that reduces, restricts their freedoms.

To each his own, I suppose. Though I am willing to fight for my ideals.

The others? All they need to do is surrender.

Folks...I'm going to be a Debbie Downer...I am really coming to the conclusion that the ideology of a nation is irrelevant, they're just different curtains covering the same stage, and we're all marionettes used for the enrichment and amusement of others.

There will be no "best" until the human condition itself fundamentally changes. IMHO.

First off, I think "Debbie Downer" would be an awesome user name for someone.

Second, I just want a world where I am free, my kids are free and we can all prosper.

Paint it blue and slap the national flag of beezzerkistan on it if you want, don't really care.
